Just wondering if you count the calories of your vegetables? (ie: celery, romaine lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, etc)
Of course you'd count the calories of potatoes.... but generally low calorie vegetables -- do you count them? If not, which are the veggies that you would not count? Whats your justification for your answer?
Why wouldn't you count them? They factor in to your intake just like any other foods. If I didn't count them, I'd probably be over my daily calorie limit by 200-300 calories.
I personnally count everything that goes in my mouth. To me skipping something is like the little white lie, no one will know.
Also vegies may be low in calories but they do include many nutrients that we need and when you look at your overall analysis without the vegies logged you probably don't get a proper picture.
Yep, use the veggies for the nutritional analysis.
I find that I am much more interested in the nutritional content of foods than the calorie counting side. If you focus on the nutrition first, (which will "fill you up") and then the calories, you should be good to go.
I count everything I eat, even if it has negligible calories. That way, I can get a good picture of how healthy my diet is (in terms of fiber, vitamins, macro-nutrients, etc.) as well as monitor my calorie deficit. Food logs are about more than weight loss, after all.
Besides, I like seeing those A's and B's for my intake. Helps when I am stuck on a mini-plateau, like now!
a huge portion of my general food intake comes from non-starchy vegetables.. yes i count them
a lot of fiber, complex carbs and vitamins comes from all my veggies too... if I didn't count them my overall nutrition report would be off balance and innaccurate, not to mention I would probably be like 400 calories short of my reccommended intake and lacking in fiber
yeah, I eat TONS of vegetables... last night I polished off an entire head of cauliflower dipped in tomato paste... I've had days when i'll eat 5 whole zucchini's, or entire cans/bags of beans, artichokes, tomatoes, etc... I'm always finding new delicious ways to eat vegetables too
-cauliflower rice
-zucchini fries
-pumpkin pudding
-rhubarb '"crisp" (but only made with rhubarb cinnimon and stevia)
I honestly could probably eat only vegetables.. but then I'd be seriously malnourished!!
If you're eating enough veggies, you are going to be off by hundreds of calories per day if you don't log them. 50% of my daily calories come from veggies on a good day, so ignoring the calories really isn't an option. :P
I count them just so I can see what healthy and unhealthy stuff I eat. Of course, this doesn't generally make a difference in my food decisions but it's nice when I look at my Food Log list and see a string of fruits and veggies I've eaten that day. It's better than just seeing a string of coffee, ice cream, chocolate, tacos, etc... :)
