Vegetarian Beer and Wine and Kid Friendly Recipes
Ok, two different questions but here goes:
What are some vegetarian beer and wine brands and where to buy?
Does anyone have a good resource for vegetarian kid friendly recipes?
My kids are so picky. Thanks in advance>>>

I've messed with home brewing so I was very curious about your question. I have made some beers with lactic acid, but that is very, very rare and, if present, is typically only found in stouts and porters. That said, some quick research has indicated that it's not that simple. Here is a link to an article going into detail about it for those that are interested.
I also came across a more extensive list of beers than cellophane_star and here it is.
If you are at a brew pub and you can't find a direct answer, I would first ask what they use as a clarifying agent. I've only heard of irish moss being used as a clarifier, but apparently, some breweries use certain parts of fish for this. If the clarifier is vegetarian safe, there's probably about a 95% chance or greater that the beer itself is.
On another note, if you are fond of bloody marys, be warned that worcestershire sauce does contain anchovies, so you may want to avoid that as well.
If you are interested in a vegan diet, you will also want to stay away from any ale or lager that contains honey, and this is typically indicated in the product's name.
If you see a mead, that indicates it's a wine made with honey. If you are curious about a cyser, that is a cider made with honey.
I hope this gives you a good starting point.
Our entire family, especially the kids, have always loved Tofu Tacos. Perfect served with vegetarian refried beans, green salad, and Spanish Bulgur (from Diet for a Small Planet cookbook) Tofu Tacos are really easy to make:
Corn Tortillas
Extra firm Tofu
Cooking Oil
Taco Seasoning (prepared dry mix of spices or your own)
Chopped veggie condiments (fresh tomato, shredded cheddar cheese (regular or vegan), lettuce, green onion)
Taco sauce, if desired
1. Be sure to have all other items in the meal prepared and the table set; these tacos are really quick and best fresh out of the skillet.
2. Heat oil in skillet.
3. Discard liquid from tofu and pat dry.
4. With fork, scrape the tofu into pan quickly. This will produce a "crumbled" look and texture.
5. Quickly sprinkle on a couple of tablespoons (or desired amt) of dry taco seasoning.
6. Constantly work the mixture back and forth with a spatula. Yes, the mixture will stick at first, but will quickly become unstuck as water leaves the tofu and comes into pan. This all takes just a few moments. The tofu will shrink and shrivel into a yummy crumbly mixture.
7. Fill taco shells with mixture.
8. Individually assemble & garnish with desired condiments at the table.
For a fantastic side dish that's like Spanish Rice, see Diet for A Small Planet for Spanish Bulgur, or email me for the recipe.
Enjoy! We've had many happy times around the table with this, most kid-requested meal at our house.
