I am a vegetarian and I don’t eat eggs. How can i increase get my protein intake? I lift weights 4 days a week.
Answer
A vegetarian can get a significant amount of protein from dried beans and lentils, nuts and seeds, soybeans, tofu, TVP (textured vegetable protein) meat substitute made from soy flour, and seitan made from the gluten of wheat flour. There is also considerable protein in grains, such as whole wheat, brown rice, quinoa and oats, and in vegetables, like seaweed, peas and corn. If you are a vegetarian who eats dairy products, you can get protein from milk, yogurt, cheese, and whey. Be sure to eat enough calories to spare your protein from being used for energy.
