I am having trouble finding protein snacks that are portable and calorie sufficient to take to school with me, and nuts are getting old. I thought it would be easy to find some protein bars, but so far everything I check out has questionable ingredients! For example, yesterday I picked up a Balance Bar, only to find out it had fish gelatin in it. Ew.

Let me start off by asking, does anyone know if the glycerin(e) in these bars comes from a vegetable or animal source?

ThinkThin bars
South Beach Diet bars
Pure Protein bars
Zone Perfect Bars

And does anyone have any suggestions besides Luna Bars that are around 200 calories or less? Thanks so much!Laughing

CLIF bars are good, though must are in the 240-260 calorie range.  I usually cut them in half for a lower-calorie treat.  Some flavors come in a 100 calorie snack size now.  CLIF kidz bars have about 120 cals and are tasty (just watch out for honey if you're vegan).

Lara bars are awesome and those are around 180 cals.  They come in all kinds of flavors like cherry pie, peanut butter cookie, coconut cream pie, etc.

Thanks, those bars sound great, but I am looking for something with a little more protein-- around 15-20 grams or so. I am not vegan anymore because it got way too stressful for me, so honey, dairy, etc is okay. However, I still do not want to consume any animal slaughter byproducts.

NUTRILITE has some great snack/meal bars. the meal bars com in lemon, which is too die for, chocolate brownie, cranberry crunch and caramel cream. all have 20% of any vitamin you could ever think of, 11g protein, 4-5g fiber, 4g fat, and 200 calories! totally vegetarian friendly now, plus they are certified organic! :D

CLIF makes a BUILDER bar, as one of their many off-shoots and various lines of snack bars. I've actually gotten away from them lately as I've been able to adjust my schedule and can often just make a protein shake at home when returning from the gym, but in the past I ate them when I worked out. If I remember correctly, they are something like 280 calories and contain around 20 grams of protein. They are super tasty, too- chocolate on the outside.. like a split between a regular CLIF bar and a candy bar. They're vegan. Check 'em out.

If you are anywhere near a Whole Foods, they sell a bar called Perfect Foods that has around 18 grams of protein per bar, 295 calories or so. They taste outrageously good, not vegan but are vegetarian.

I second the Clif Builder Bars. My fiance and I have them for breakfast each morning during the week. They have 20 Grams of Protein, 3 Grams of Fiber, 8 Grams of Fat & 270 Calories...They are the only bars that keep me full for a long time, and I love the taste. I buy the Vanilla Almond and the Chocolate or Peanut Butter, he really likes the Chocolate Mint ones.

I third the Clif Buillder bars. I have one as a afternoon snack, they really keep you full and are tasty.
