Vegetarians vs meat eaters

Quote  |  Reply

I will start this thread by saying: I hate extremists (Read below)

*****Edit*****

Ok, i was expressing myself wrong and i will change it, i dont hate extremists just by being extremists, for example, i dont hate a person who eats just veggies and just non-animal products, and also i dont hate someone that just eats meat, what i hate is persons who think everyone in the world should do what they do, for example a veggan that looks to your plate and starts yelling, "How can you eat meat! u have to stop you sick person!!!", or a meat eater that tells you, "We are not ****ing rabbits, get a ****ing stake!"; this is the kind of persons i hate - besides that i respect people who have their own thoughts but respect others.

*****Edit*****

I did this post because i want to hear opinions about this topic; No flaming.

In my opinion:

Vegan's point of view: "Poor animals... HOW THE HELL CAN YOU EAT MEAT?!"

Meat eaters point of view: "**** Vegans AND **** YOUR SALAD!"

^ i think both are wrong -_-

I think a human CAN live from JUST vegetables/fruits or JUST meat. No, there wouldn't be any protein deficit for vegetarians as soy protein has a 1(highest) in the PDCAAS table (it determines how good are the aminoacids on the protein, milk, egg white and whey have a highest grade as well) and no, meat eaters would not die of cholesterol while they get lean cuts.

Even though i think humans CAN live just from one of those, i think humans HAVE to eat both of them; yes i know, the poor animals suffer for the production... but at the end we need meat, eggs, milk, etc, In the other hand, for fruit and vegetable production there is suffering from the people; workers are paid less than 2% for their exhaustive work, the other 98% goes to the supermarket and the company, etc.

I want to hear your opinion about this topic =D

As long as you intake all the nutrients you need and maintain enough calories to live in a healthy manner while at the same time managing what can be detrimental to your body, it doesn't matter what you eat.  There isn't anything in your examples of milk, eggs, and meat that cannot be found in another source.

So with that said, if want to make a personal choice to eat certain things, it doesn't make the slightest difference to me.  I'm a vegetarian, but I don't care what other people eat, I just worry about me.  :P

Let me play devil's advocate on the vegan side for a moment: the environmental cost of meat is significantly higher than the environmental cost of veganism. From the cost of transport, antibiotics, hormone use, etc., there are significant arguments against eating meat, particularly beef.

Notice how I didn't mention "poor animals" even once?

But boy are burgers tasty.

I'll be honest, I only like fuzzy animals.  :P

I seriously doubt that any of this is true.

 I agree. Post#1. Exactly.

It's ironic/funny to me when people act like certain animals are okay to eat. That due to a lack of cute-ness it's acceptable to them. It's like: " wtf, mate "

To each their own but that logic tweaks me. Sealed " I only eat ugly/mean animals. "

To eat or to be buddies with? Lucky snakes. Innocent

My rule is that I don't eat animals I've been on a first name basis with. Thus most of my chickens got off easy because I'm willing to embrace the disconnect.

OTOH, I can't get the people who will eat meat but refuse to eat any meat that has a bone or in any way appears as though it might have come from a living being at some point in the past. A hypocrite is me.

I'm sorta with Tom on this one.  If all 6 billion people in the world converted to veganism, think of the land that would be needed for growing crops.  Also, most crops are sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, etc. and are genetically modified to produce higher yields.  The chemicals threaten the environment and the genetic modification threatens biodiversity (i.e. If some fungus or something were to start attacking corn, we'd be screwed because most of the corn grown is of the same variety therefore we would probably lose the entire current corn crop and it would take time to develop a new strain that was resistant to the fungus).

How is the cost of transport of plants different from the cost of transport of meat? What about the environmental cost of soil nutrient depletion? or the runnoff of synthetic fertilizers/pesticides?

I'm sure Dreadful Penny is just trying to gather sources to the claims there. :)

Mhm. I'm still waiting for sources to their claim before asking similar questions. =-P

Why does that logic tweak you?  I don't eat any animals, but I don't care if other people do, but it doesn't change the fact that I only like fuzzy animals.  I'm not a vegetarian because I'm worried about animals, it was just a personal choice I made after a conversation with a friend of mine and some research.  *shruggles*  :P

In my opinion I'm not an extremist, I don't preach or tell other people what they should/need to eat and not eat.  I just eat what I want.  :P
