I had my first veggie burger today! It was pretty bad? What can i do to spice it up a bit? Make it more appealing?

how about simply eating something that you DO like instead of forcing yourself to eat something that you don't. there's nothing special about veggie burgers that makes them an optimal choice so just eat something else... life's too short not to enjoy our food :)

ahhh that was the best answer. You see I LOVE burgers!! but they are too high in calories for me. So i bought 100 cal Veggie ones. I would rather go without a burger then eat a nother veggie one i guess

if you choose lean beef you should be okay. 95% or something like that, i'm a vegetarian so i'm not too sure how many cals there is in lean beef but i'd look into it if i were you. try adding low cal sauces like mustard, bbq sauce, hot sauce, etc.

oh one more thing, you could have your burger "protein style" without the bun or with 1/2 the bun for less calories, also no mayo, low fat cheese, and a small patty. oh and there's always ground chicken, turkey, bison, and sirloin as opposed to traditional ground beef burgers. you can try those and always choose organic if possible.

Thank you for being so helpful :)

I love veggie burgers, but that's more because I consider them to be an alternative food and not a substitute for a hamburger.

If I want a hamburger, that's what I have although I'll typically ask for it "protein style" or lettuce wrapped depending on the joint that I order it at.

heya -

try the morningstar tomato basil pizza burgers with a serving or two of ketchup on a toasted english muffin - the burger itself is only about 110 cals and is super yummy, and i enjoy it with ketchup, sometimes adding some greenery - and the toasted eng. muffin is only about 100 cals too :)

morningstar makes all sorts of flavors of veg. burgers

I like the morning star black bean burgers. I make them mexican style with a little sour cream, cheddar cheese on a whole wheat wrap. yummy mexican deliciousness under 300 calories

I love Boca burgers (the vegan ones).  I eat it just like a hamburger.. I'll grill it or microwave it and then top it with low fat cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, and mustard all on a potato hamburger bun.  About 220 cals total :)

I second adidas19, I love Boca Burgers! And I just do it like her I add fat free singles, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard and for the bread I use multigrain Arnold Sandwich thins. I think it's delicious.

^ This.

If you bite into a veggie burger with the expectation that it will adequately replace a real burger, you are bound to be disappointed.  However, some veggie burgers are perfectly yummy, as long as you take into consideration that they are, in reality, NOT a burger.  I tend to think of veggie "burgers" as sandwich ingredients, rather than a true burger, if that makes any sense at all.

I second girlfighting27, morningstar spicy black bean burgers are SOOO delish!

I'm not a vegetarian, so I don't know if this recipe breaks any of the rules - but they are delicious.  I make the batch and freeze what I don't eat.  It doesn't take like a "burger", but it is a delicious meal!!

Servings: 6

Preparation Time: 30 minutes

Start to Finish Time: 45 minutes

6 sun-dried tomatoes

1/2 cup Boar's Head Feta cheese, crumbled

2/3 cup whole wheat bread crumbs

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 1/2 cups water

1 teaspoon Better Than Boullion Vegetable Base

1/2 cup millet

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup shallots, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups lacinato kale, leaf only

1 1/2 cups baby spinach

1/4 cup pine nuts, toasted

2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped

2 dashes Cholula sauce

1/8 teaspoon salt

Place sun-dried tomatoes in a pan and cover with boiling water. Let soak for 30 minutes. Drain and finely chop. Add Feta,

bread crumbs and pepper.

Bring water and vegetable base to a boil, stir in millet seed. Reduce the heat and simmer with the pot covered for 30 minutes.

All liquid should be absorbed. Let stand covered for 10 minutes. Fluff with fork and cool to room temperature.

Add olive oil to a pan and sauté the shallots until soft and lightly colored. Add garlic and sauté for one minute. Add kale and

spinach and heat just until wilted. Cool.

Place pine nuts in a food processor and pulse to a paste. Place millet in the food processor and pulse just until mixed. Add

spinach and kale mixture along with basil, Cholula sauce and salt. Pulse to mix. Mix the contents of the food processor into

a bowl with the tomato and feta mixture.

With moistened hands form burgers. Refrigerate until ready to cook.

To cook use a non-stick pan or a non-stick grill tray for grilling. Spray each burger with non-stick spray and grill or sauté for

four minutes each side.

Serving Ideas: Serve with a medley of freshly grilled vegetables and olive tapenade.

i like to spray some pam on my boca burger then sprinkle garlic powder and dill weed on it, then i spray it once more with the pam.  (only 2 split seconds of spray)  i like the dill weed taste.. like pickle.
my brother in law did this with turkey burgers he added fresh dill weed and tomato, they where really good. now i use dill weed on the veggie burgers and in eggbeaters... i like the flavor.

i love veggie burgers they are always in my freezer

sometimes i will crave a real burger though so i will go out and eat one, usually about once a month.

I love morning star "garden veggie patties". Does not even need ketchup. It does not taste like a burger at all. It tastes more like a vegetable souffle.

Two things you should watch out for though:

Some veggie burgers are high in fat.

They are all high in sodium.

mmm yep the high sodium is a b**ch

I too am a burger lover, i have recently discovered ground chicken and turkey burgers, just make sure its lean turkey and or chicken breast low cal and loaded with flavor. and instead of a bun put it on flat out flat bread looks like a tortilla and you can split it in half for even fewer cals.

In our house burgers are:

bison

elk

moose (hands down the favorite for everyone)

yummm just had a turkey burger!

Only 150 calories!

just made myself a yummy tomato basil burger in a low carb soft taco shell with cheese and ketchup :]
