Aside from starchy vegetables like potatoes and corn..do you generally count them into your calories? I feel like fresh vegetables should be limitless..but calories are calories I suppose. I've been slowly but surely cutting back on cigarettes and I've been munching a lot on raw carrots, string beans, broccoli etc...crunchy things help with the cravings..I just hope they don't add up too much.
Yes I count them. I'm not as careful with quantities (a cup of lettuce vs 2 cups won't make a big difference), but things like carrots can end up adding measurable calories.
I count them too. They aren't a whole lot, but I don't want to go over my allotment and I eat a LOT of veggies!
I count them- that's at least 200-300 calories a day!
Count them, that will help you have a better sense of your overall nutrition (look at the analysis tab to see how you are eating). I find that if I am not losing weight as fast as I wish, it is very motivating to look at my overall nutrition -- 35 grams of fiber per day, woo-hoo.
I only count them if I am having a real serving, such as 1/2 cup or more. Like I just had a side of green beans with my lunch (25 cals).
I don't count them if they are small amounts in a salad. The count is so low it's not worth my energy. 1.5 cups of romaine lettuce is only 15 calories, 2 or 3 cherry tomatoes are like nothing, a little bit of shredded carrot, a small chopped pepper (5 calories). If it's just a garden salad, the whole thing is less than 50 calories. It's just a pain to log each and every component but I know I'm within my limit.
I agree with dkenworthy. Counting veggies will give you a better picture of your overall nutrition. Veggies are packed full of vitamins and minerals, along with pleanty of fiber (depending on what kinds you are eating).
And, yes, the calories do count. They might not be much, but if you are munching all day the amount you're consuming could surprise you.
thank you all!
i do because my daily goal is to limit my carbs to 50 to 60 % of my calorie intake - the analysis tool rocks but only if you are kinda OCD about logging everything lol
I count them, it gives me a better grade ;).
For most veggies, I group them together.
For example, if I ate a salad that contained cucmbers, tomatoes, red peppers and celery, for a total of 1 cup, I will just log 1 cup of red peppers to save time. I log leaves separately. I do it because I want to see my fiber grams come close to 25.
Like flybee, I count them but not as carefully as I do other things. For example if I am having a salad with lettuce' peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, brocoli, etc. I will just search for 'salad' and add it; then lump the rest into peppers, tomatoes, etc.
