Is it possiable to be vegitiarian and still eat low carb? I havn't been doing the low carb thing very long but I find that in the diet plans for low carb there is alot of meat and I have never been a big fan of eating meat, I used to love meat but now I have gotten to the point where I cant eat chicken or stake with out my stomach turning from the thought of it the same with eggs, but I find that I have to eat this stuff to matain the low carb, or do I? please any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, also I have to do this on a budget of $155 a month so cheap ideas are good as well. I have to do the low carb for medical reasons not just for weight loss. Thanks for any help.

I'd try working with tofu, brown rice, and bean. Maybe also low fat dairy like nonfat yogurt and skim milk.

There are many different ways to interpret low carb, what is your slant on it? For instance, some say no rice/bread, others say only brown rice or ww bread.
I try to eat whole grain type stuff, and as non-processed as possiable, but its hard to buy good food on my budget, so basically I just do alot of reading lables of the types of food I like and try to stay below 10 carbs per serving for main ingreadents and around 5 for anything else, and below 32 each meal and 127 for the day, but I havn't quite got a handel on the whole thing yet, but I must not be doing to bad since I have lost 19 lbs in like 3 weeks, but I suspect alot of that was just from cutting out regular soda and as much white sugar as possiable (I am switching to the healthy stuff and cutting out the bad stuff slowly).
You can restrict your diet to only water.

Plant products are generally higher in carbs -- they are either sweet and sugary like fruits  or  starchy like potatoes and grains.

Cutting out meats eliminates alot of protein and fats. ( not all)  Cutting out carbs eliminates alot of plants.

What do you want to eat ??  Yes you can avoid the nutrient poor carbs like breads and grains -- but even broccolli and green beans have carbs.

You can certainly focus on a vegetable heavy diet - just be sure to get enough calories  - and watch your B12 intake!

Think about what you are trying to acheive?  A healthy diet or self denial.

re: money and food - there was a conversasion not long ago about a college student trying to stretch it out with some great suggestions.  Might want to check out that forum topic.

I'm vegetarian Low Carb and it's definitely not impossible on your budget (mine is similar!).   First of all, though, make sure that your carb intake is never below 30 grams (that's total carbs minus fiber), as a vegetarian you will have to eat a few more carbs than the late Dr Atkins.

Low carb tortillas and all natural peanut butter are a great snack, and there are some great veg alternatives to most meat products.  I like smart life and morningstar for hot dogs and sausages, and boca makes a few burgers that are pretty low carb.  Of course, salads with oil&vinegar are always a good option for the end of the month when money gets tight.

It can be difficult, but if you use your imagination and the nutritional info of any food a low carb vegetarain diet is possible.

You could try checking out this link for some info about the low-carb South Beach specifically for vegetarians

I know that there are also at least 2 forums out there specifically for vegetarian low-carb dieters (on other sites) so I'm sure that someone who is already eating that way will easily come up with a budget for you, good luck! (:
