OK - sorry to hear this. In my honest opinion, I really do not know why either. You are being very reasonable too, you want to get from 25.1 BMI to 22.5 which is a great weight for you.

I can see that you're twenty two and a half and you have in the past dropped a decent amount of weight so well done for that.

Using another site (http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ ) and using your stats, your base metabolic rate (what you'd burn doing nothing) is currently 1514. Multiply this by the Harris Benedict number of 1.55 for you (because you do a very decent degree of activity) then your burn rate should be 2347 per day. You know the rest… 3500 cals represents 1 lb stored fat therefore cut 500 per day to lose a pound a week. So I do not understand why you are not losing on a 1550 average. If you haven't been doing this long, maybe your body is still getting used to the drop in energy intake and until it gets used to it, it might not release any stored energy. Or maybe you're simply not eating enough? You're pretty active and you could afford to eat 1800 per day and still have a 500 deficit.

Just please don't give up - losing weight is just a science after all! I mean if you consume less energy than your body actually needs then it will look to stored energy instead - but it can take a while for your body to realise that!

I really do wish you luck in this. Remember you cannot give up on a lifestyle, which is what healthy eating and exercise is!

Don't quit!   Just think of me, I'm just starting.  I am 5'6" and weigh 225.  What if you had that much to lose.  perhaps you could increase your walking and make it every day.  You could continue doing less cardio, maybe?  I am no expert, just trying to give you some suggestions.

Hang in there!  I'll pray for you today.  You're almost there!!!!!!  Just 16 pounds!

thanks for the encurigment im going to keep going

i think ill add another 10min on to the cardio and see if that helps and maybe drinking more water will help (i drink about half as much as i did half a year ago)

thanks!

Don't worry...you just have to change it up.

Walking is good, but really you only burn 100 cals p/mile. Ugh. I know it sucks.

I had a plataue for over a month after I concentrated on walking/running and cutting back on my regular cardio (I'm running a 5k in june).  This week after eating 1800-2000 and working on the eliptical for 30 minutes, kboxing, and zumba (dance) I'm back down the tree pounds I was suposed to be down a month ago. If you're working out that much (increase cardio) you should increase your cals to 1700+.  Your body will thank you bc it'll get the nutriants to push harder.

Don't quit! What's the point? You're already unhappy about your weight, do you want to stay unhappy?  Stay on track MEASURE/WEIGH ALL your food and things will change.

I'm 5'5" too and my goal weight is also 135 lbs! And it really depends on how long you have been living a healthy lifestyle now. If it has been only a month, that may be why. It takes time to see results so you really gotta be patient! (I know, it is hard!)

Your calorie intake range seems like the right amount. So if you can stick with it, then you are on the right track. Sometimes it just takes a little extra exercise to give you a fat-burning boost. When you walk, try to add some jogging in, and you'll be able to more and more over time.

I have times when I really want to give up too. I think to myself, "Why am I not losing more weight?!?! I've been doing so well and working so hard and it seems like nothing is happening!" But it is a slow process and I do eventually see results and I'm so happy that my hard work paid off.
So just never give up! Ever! And feel proud that you have already decided to be healthy :)

I have the same problem I am staying within my calorie and burning but am not losing weight or inches. For 13 years I have let it get me frustrated and discouraged and quit, I am now 5'3" and over 200lbs. I hate how I look, refuse to have my picture taken or wear anything that I don't swim in, I don't even want to think about being intimate with my husband who is amazing.

Please keep going, add me as a friend if you want...someone to vent/celebrate/be accountable to.

I wish you luck on your journey to a heallthier and happier you.

Have you had your thryoid/adrenal checked? The slightest hormonal imbalance can stall your weightloss efforts.  I'm going through early perimenopause (I'm only 38) and what I'm doing now, if I had done 2 years ago, the weight would be melting off, but of course now, it just a trickle......but still moving down. Laughing

Best of luck to you!

How long have you been dieting? sometimes it takes more than a month to see difference. just be patient . That worked for me. I was not losing for almost 5 weeks and then at the end of 5 weeks I started dropping 1 lb everyday. I lost 4 lbs in 4 days. But I think I have been losing thru the 5 weeks it just did not show on the scale may be because of fluid or muscle gain caz of exercise.

Just wanted to tell you to hang tough, believe in yourself and do not give up!  I get discouraged from time to time too.  My weight loss has been really slow lately and I only have about 10 lbs. to go.  For me, I honestly cannot quit b/c I have the type of body that goes to Jello if I don't exercise for even a couple of weeks.  I will always have to put forth an effort to be my fittest and best self.

You've received some great suggestions above so I really have nothing new to add.  I just wanted to let you know that you not alone and to hang in there.  You WILL get great results.  What will the ultimate result be if you stop completely?

Oh my goodness...

Throw your scale out the window if its going to prevent you from making a positive step in the right direction! :P

No, seriously - consider throwing it out. Take your measurements (bust, waist, and hips), and go by that. I haven't lost any weight in a good while, but I have lost inches and gained muscle. Keep it up!

Maybe grab a friend (or a dog) and go for a long hike.  You'll feel great at the end of the day. Then eat a nutritious meal without worrying about the calories.  Maybe you just need a change.

And I agree with Alexxandra, throw your scale out the window.

You don't have that much to lose.  Not to discourage you, but I've read several times (on this site) that the less you have to lose, the harder it is.  So you have to be patient.

I lose weight very slowly too - I've only lost about 8 pounds since January. Actually, for the first little while, I didn't lose anything. I started losing after someone suggested switching up my exercise routine.  I used to only run 5x/wk.  I started alternating my running with cycling and power-walking and then I started losing weight.  I guess my body had gotten used to running and the challenge of using my muscles in a new way (it was really tough for the first little while) helped me lose weight.

I kept this info from a previous post about breaking plateaus - this made sense to me:  keep your salt intake really low, drink lots of water, don't eat any processed carbs, and hit the gym hard.  After about a week you should start seeing benefits.  The poster also suggested playing around with your caloric intake - vary it from day to day while keeping the same weekly total. If your intake is different from day to day, your body can't slow its metabolism to adjust to the reduced intake.

Hang in there - it'll happenCool

thanks everybody.  im going to keep going because doing what im doing is better than doing nothing.

carrolllyn: i have my thryoid checked every time i go to the doctor because my sister had thryoid cancer when she was only 23. i have to go to the doc on the 2ed so they will praboly be doing one then too.

mperic81: ill try upping my cals a little bit and see if that helps. the walking that i do is the time it takes me to go from my apt to the gym (i use it as a warm up and cool down)

thanks again everybody i feel i have more drive now to continue on

How often should you eat during the day?

It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
