One of the sponsors of this site is vitamuffins or vitalicious, They look yummy and from there website they seem very nice and mostly natural ingredients. However they seem a bit pricey as they want to sell them in bulk, has anyone bought them and what did they think??
Reason: Moved from WL to Foods forum
I've tried VitaTops and VitaBrownies, and I think they are well worth it. The taste is surprisingly good and they are pretty filling. The chocolate ones are my favorite, although the corn muffin flavor is also good. The peanut butter chip ones are not all that great because I don't think the little "peanut butter" chips on them taste very good, so when I got the variety pack I just picked them off the top.
Yes, try them. ^^
I highly recommend them as well. My favorite is the deep chocolate, but the dark chocolate pomegranite is really good too. I also highly recommend the brownies - only 100 cals, but more of a cake like consistency. The best non-chocolate one, IMO, is the multi bran - it's perfect heated up with just a little bit of peanut butter spread on it...mmmm....
Buying them in bulk is the way to go, BTW. There are stores (like Whole Foods) that carry them, but for way too much per muffin. Right now Vitalicious has a promotion going for Valentines day, and you can also get free shipping codes from hungry-girl.com. The website also sells mixes and a vitatop baking pan, so you could probably save some money by making them yourself.
Thanks again ladies
So far I've been eating them for breakfast with some peanut butter on top and a cup of coffee. (I can't stand wasting food!)
I live in Calgary and the curiousity almost got to me too! If you buy the bulk pack, you end up paying $2 or more per muffin/brownie. If you live in Ontario, you can actually pick your order from their factory (which I think was in North York). Otherwise, they ship across Canada for $20 or so. They use UPS so if you're not home during the day, you're out of luck. I've debating having them delivered to my work! On the Canadian site, it says they're available at Shopper's and a few other stores but I haven't seen them. (http://www.vitalicious.ca/storeupdater.asp)
EDIT: I just noticed this interesting note on the Canadian site: "Nutritional Note: Due to Canadian food guidelines, Vitalicious products sold in these stores will NOT be fortified with vitamins & minerals." Hmmmm...

Wow, that last part is really crappy because each of my vitatop/vitabrownies has 50% of nearly all the vitamins and minerals (including 20% CALCIUM!), and I think the vitamuffins might have 100%, not sure on those. But. That was a huge draw for me. =/
processed foods are processed foods.. no matter how you slice them.
that junk will choke up your colon.
watch out for inert materials and jot down those additives... then learn about them by keying them up in google.com.
can't say it enough folks.. if it's not fresh... do yourself a favor is you're going to eat this junk.. get it over fast instead... :D
processed foods are a slow, painful death.
Its all food for though, and Loblaws now have their blue range so they sell muffins that are quite low in fat and cals, and they are fersh. Maybe I will try those.
I have a really bad craving for a muffin now LOL

processed... why not just eat chemicals without all that food stuff instead, it'll save you the time.

Have you taken a look at the ingredients in a vitamuffin or vitalicious brownie? They're really not that bad, and it's not like we're suggesting that they're supposed to be eaten as a sole source of nutrition.
And processed is not necessarily bad - you'd have to live on a farm and make everything yourself to get totally away from processed anything. I'm a big fan of fresh whenever it's possible, but I'm not a "no processed anything" advocate/zealot.
And I'm feeling fine. ![]()
Deep Chocolate:
Deep Chocolate: Water, whole wheat flour,
organic evaporated cane juice, egg
whites, chocolate chips (sugar, chocolate
liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin added as
an emulsifier and vanilla), cocoa
(processed with alkali), soy fiber,
erythritol, inulin, dried honey, wheat
gluten, leavening (sodium acid
pyrophosphate, potassium bicarbonate),
fruitrim (grapejuice, brown rice syrup),
tricalcium phosphate, natural flavor, sea
salt, xanthan gum, vitamin A, vitamin B6,
vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D,
vitamin E, folic acid, iron, biotin, zinc.
CONTAINS EGG, SOY, WHEAT.
What's so bad about it? There's only three things in it that I don't know what they are, and those turned out to be:
Erythritol: natural sugar alcohol (a type of sugar substitute) that occurs naturally in fruits and fermented foods. It is 60-70% as sweet as table sugar yet it is almost non-caloric, does not affect blood sugar, does not cause tooth decay, and is absorbed by the body, therefore unlikely to cause gastric side effects unlike other sugar alcohols.
Wheat Gluten: It is made by washing wheat flour dough with water until all the starch dissolves, leaving insoluble gluten as a gummy mass. Wheat gluten is used by bakers to increase the chewyness of breads.
Tricalcium phosphate: Mineral containing calcium
Hm... yeah. Why don't you just live your life without nasty dirty "chemicals" and never take medicine or go to a doc again? It's unnatural!
if you only eat natural good for you, but please don't come here on your high horse shooting down other people who make healthy food choices and tell them they aren't healthy if they eat ANY processed things and accuse them of not caring about their body and health...people like you only contribute to the obesity/ ED problems in society...jeesh
Good idea before thinking of a binge, ask the calorie content in one! I got told that it contained 400 calories and 20 grams of fat!! I just about spat, i told them dont worry about it and went and had some 90 cal quaker treats!
I am still debating whether to order these, If i could just buy one and try it, I would hate to order 24 and hate them.
what's inulin, leavening, fruitrim, and xanthan gum? Just curious.
I never heard of these muffins but would love to try them. But I'm a huge fan of making my own muffins from wheat flour and I'm trying to figure out a way to substitute apple sauce or mashed bananas in a recipe so it's more natural but the same consistency. What makes oil/ butter so different than apple sauce and banana? Other than the fact fats are fats and sugars are sugars just the kind of reaction they produce to give muffins, cookies, baked goods the taste and feel in your mouth is just beyond my comprehension. I'm going to post this in the recipe forum.
although I have been meaning to try the black beans/brownie recipe...but I have to find a time to make it when my BF is not around cuz if he sees what i am doing, I suspect he might not want to eat it!
