Ode to Vitamuffin   Smile

I love 'em - and miss them.  When I was laid off in January, they didn't survive the household spending cuts.  While delicious (especially the chocolate ones) and nutritious, they are a bit pricey, even on sale.

There are mixed reviews at CC as a whole - some, like me love them, others have found them a little small, and sometimes dry.  Personal preference, I guess.

I love the vitatops and I dont think they are too small at all (the size of my palm). Yesterday  I bought these 100 cal. brownie things and they were the size of a key chain. Now thats what  I call small.

haha so the brownies werent the vita muffin brand then?

I just tried them for the first time. They are okay, but I am not all that impressed. I am sad that I spent $5.60 for four of them at my local store. It is worth a try I would say.

they're a bit pricey so they're a somtimes treat for me.  but they are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!  my fav is the blueberry.  i like the whole grain oatmeal texture that they have.  it makes me feel (physically) that i'm doing something good for myself when i eat them.  the only thing that sucks is waiting for them to defrost.  I WANT IT NOW DANG IT!!!!!!!!!  Tongue out  in my experience putting them in the microwave to defrost makes them dry and the center is still ice cold while the outside is blazing hot.  i always let them sit on the counter to defrost.  soooo much better that way.

oh no, the key chain size brownies were some other brand i picked up from walmart. I ended up giving them to my brother who ate the whole box in 5 min.

I will admit that those vitatops are way expensive for just 4 but sooo worth it imo.

couldn't something be baked that was very similar in calorie content/sweetness/satisfaction - yet far less damaging to the wallet..?

also: muffin tops make me think of seinfeld.

I looove vitamuffins, especially the chocolate ones, but I can't justify shelling out like $1.50 for a muffin. About once every few months however, I buy the packaged mix. It's about $7 and I can get at least 12 muffins out of it. I freeze them and they are just as awesome as the pre-made ones but about a dollar cheaper per muffin!

ooh now this sounds like a novel idea - where do you get the mix?

VitaTops/Muffins are awesome! they are big for only 100 cals and like 1 or 2g of fat. They also have 50% of your daily vitamins and lots of fiber, they are actually pretty healthy. Like everyone else, the only rant I have is about the price. The Hungry Girl emails offer specials on these quite often (US only)

For Canadians they have a  free shipping special on right now (for the first time ever!) for ON and QC residents if you spend over $75

Off the vitalicious website.

They have some neat packages where you can get multiple mix flavors, and even get a muffin top pan (in the "gift ideas" link).

My local grocery store (it's a Jewel) sells the mixes in deep chocolate, banana nut, and blueberry bran in the natural section of the grocery store, by the various bars.

They're pretty good, but I like my black bean brownies better.  I add orange zest and frozen blueberries which are even better than vitamuffins and so much cheaper!  I'm overestimating on the prices.

  • 1 package No Pudge Brownie Mix - $3
  • 1 can black beans - $1
  • zest from two oranges $1
  • 1/4 lb frozen blue berries or other berry that you like $1

For a total of about $6 you get a pan of brownies that really taste great.  Anytime I eat citrus I now zest the fruit and freeze it for future experiments.

very cool - this looks awesome. i think i may give it a try..

I am not a fan of these but I saw them at Super Target for much cheaper and reg grocery stores. Whole foods which has them costs a lot more as well as the ordering online.
