The Vitamin B12 Enzyme??

Quote  |  Reply

Hii

My friends and I are currently working on a college biotech project, and are required to cite the vitamin b12 enzyme.  Unfortunately (as we've recently discovered), B12 is by far one of the most complex vitamins.

Does anyone know which enzyme would be reponsible for producing Vitamin B12?

by the way....      &n bsp; The reason I posted this question within the "Vegetarian" forum is because vegetarians notoriously under-consume this nutrient, so I figured you all would be more knowledgeable of this topic, seeing as we must more closely monitor the nutrient content of our diets.

Google will get you there.

Vitamin B12 transporting ATPase

It's a fantastic resource if you ever need to break down your entire diet to a submolecular level to make sure you're not missing anything.

:-P

well i think ovo-lacto vegs are quite safe with b12.  but just my two cents, i know fermentation produces b12, like in asian miso soup, that's all i know though.

Thank you so much!

Lysistrata - Thank you.  Wikipedia owns.

Cobalamin (Coenzyme B12) Synthesis and Biological Significance

This is the most comprehensive information on vitamin B12 I could find. If you need sources for your project, you could always look up the papers that are cited in this review article.

Simwaves,

Thank you so much.  Cobalamin turned out to be the enzyme we cited.  Thank you for your help!  :]
