Too much vitamin A?

Quote  |  Reply

All the info I've read says that too much vitamin A is harmful during pregnancy but beta-carotene is okay because your body uses it differently. I take LifeBrand pre-natal vitamin and Omega 3-6-9 supplements (don't know how much Vit A in it off-hand).

Does anyone know if CC just lumps beta-carotene in as Vitamin A? My food analysis is showing crazy-high vitamin A values--like > 30,000 IU (not including vitamins)!

I eat a lot of carrots--up to 2 cups sliced/day and up to 3 glasses of skim milk but no liver...

I don't know how CC calculates vitamin A, but I will try to find out for you.

In nutrient databases, including Calore Count, Vitamin A and b-carotene are lumped together. (Pre-formed) Vitamin A is in animal foods and Provitamin A (the carotenes) is in produce.

Thanks for the info, Mary!

Phew! Thanks Cecily and Mary!
