Dear all:
I've often thought that I would like to help people with ana in some way; I've not suffered with it, but have suffered with being thin and did visit an eating disorders program many years ago to ask a specialist if I had an ED (I do not).
So my questions are:
- Are there volunteer opportunities at eating disorders clinics?
- Where/how else could I offer assistance in person, one-to-one?
- Have you had personal contact with an unpaid volunteer and how was it?
Thanks. SSkirt
I have friends from inpatient who volunteer at the ed hospital. I think first off you have to be in a good place if you had an ed or eating issues. Very key. Do you have any major residential centers near you? Many have websites that have contact info you could go through or you could call and inquire. I remember a volunteer she would sit in during groups and offer one on one support during the day. Some helped with meal times or clerical.
Thanks for the tips, abbi.
I think there is a program here at a University hospital that I could call. The tasks that you mentioned were helpful at giving me an idea at what they may offer me to do. I feel like I could relate to the thinness aspects. --SS
