Burned out and avoiding the news until then ...

they're not allowed to publish anything until the polls close on the west coast.

MSNBC won't post until all the polls in a single state have closed. CNN i think may be tracking it poll by poll online. The earliest polls close at 6 central.

I think once they start closing.  First round of end times is at 7 ET.

I'm SO impatient!!

Thanks, online so will keep the timeframes in mind so can check online around then to see if numbers begin.  Can then switch over to the boob tube.

We've been told in the UK that the first results will come in at Midnight GMT from Virginia, so I don't know what the time there is just now but it's 7pm here so 5hrs from now.

C-Span's website will have live updates from the AP starting at 6 pm eastern time.

:)

Not exactly true.  They'll start "calling" states as soon as the polls close in any given state, based on exit polling data.

We'll start hearing results where I am by 6p.m., since there are states on the east coast where the polls close at 7.

I heard earlier today that Canada has a media blackout until all polls are closed, and I think that rocks.  I wish we did that.

I think local channels report local polling place results starting at 7pm their time.  So here in Illinois we'll see (parts of) Indiana's results before our polls close.

Don't all polling places have the same hours...just at local times though?  6am-7pm?

No, all places don't have the same hours. It's up to the State, I think. For instance, In Michigan our polls are open from 7am - 9pm. The UAW  has election day off so that should relieve some of the before/after work voting.

Instead of watching TV, you can check this website from time to time

CNN Election 2008

I intend to keep it up on my laptop and keep refreshing the screen to see the map fill up.  Meanwhile, I'll be watching the Comedy channel from 10 to 11 eastern time to share some laughs with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

I might tune in CSPAN now and then too. What I don't want to do is watch endless, bald, wrinkled, old men talking talking talking ad nauseum.

Ohio's hours are 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. I looked up exit polling on google and they're keeping a tight lid on it. Saw several articles that the exit polls will not be released until the polls close in that location. The major broadcasters are also not calling a state unless they are sure they are within an error margin of 1 out of 200.

Exit Polls 2008

I'm gonna be the first to call my own state in this thread.

Obama wins Illinois.  Cool

Exit polling.  You know, I've never in my 10 years of voting been exit polled.

*feels left out*

I dunno, bagga.  I'm starting to wonder.....

Looks like Ohio is having problems already. Provisional ballots

mooni, I blame joe the plummer...................

Hey at least it looks like an honest mistake  as opposed to some big voter fraud conspiracy theory.
