What to put on a Waffle....

Quote  |  Reply
Well, I just got these Kashi Blueberry waffles at the grocery store, and they're pretty good, but they taste a little bland by themselves, so I'm trying to figure out what I can put on them (that's healthy).

Currently, I'm using Sugar Free Strawberry Spread, which is pretty good, but the serving size doesn't even fully cover a waffle, and it's quite difficult to actually get all parts of the waffle, unfortunately. I have some normal strawberries I can stick on it, but I can't rely on actual fruit forever, as this is an extremely rare occurance. XP

I don't really care for maple syrup, unfortunately, and I don't really know what else to do besides that. Suggestions, anybody? ^^;;

Thanks so much!

Note: If you can't tell, I like strawberries if that helps at all. : P

you could use frozen strawberries and regular strawberries to make your own kind of "jam". if you put the strawberries in either granular splenda or a tiny bitter of water and honey on the stove at a medium to low heat, they'll break down and get gushy and tasty. they'd make a great warm topping that's low in calories and tasty!
I like peanut butter---it stays on there as opposed to other toppings, making the waffle more portable.

part-skim ricotta cheese and fresh fruit might be good. I like that on English muffins.

light cream cheese....
I like applesauce or yogurt :)
i have those kashi go lean waffles, i never did like maple suryp ( cant spell it) , so i heat up some 100% fruit preserves  ( no artifical sweetners either, say yes to sugar!) in the microwave. and pour em on the waffles, or just dip them in.

i usually put this and fresh or thawed blueberrys or fruit on em. they make great desserts or awesome breakfasts.

a typical waffle breakfast consists of 3 waffles.. 2 tbsp of jam, 1 cup of frozen blueberrys.
That's funny (to me). I am from Belgium, where we make wonderfully delicious (and not diet-friendly :-) ) waffles. When I moved to the US, I did not understand why people put so much stuff on their waffles in the US. Until I ate one! US waffles are tasteless!! The difference is that what you put on top on the waffles here is what we put in the dough when we make it!! Butter, sugar, eggs, that's what makes them tasty without adding anything to them. That's also why Iam not having any until I've lost those 20lbs ;-(
Cool; thank you guys so much for the ideas!! ^^

Heh- I've tried a Belgian waffle once, and it was amazing. : )
i have to agree with yougurt!

Trader Joe's sells dark morello cherries by the jar.  110 calories for 1/2 cup, but half that does it for me on pancakes, waffles or crepes!
what about lite cool whip??
I like to top my waffles with 1 small ripe banana, sliced and 1 TSP pure maple syrup.
Hi - I put berries (the frozen ones you find at Trader Joe's) and yogurt.
I love those Go lean waffles!

So far I've put peanut butter on them.  I think I had them with cottage cheese one morning, as well.
apple butter is good. A little cream cheese or some peanutbutter. Coolwhip is also pretty good if you want a treat
Listen carefully. Buy those 4-0z cups of Dannon Light N fit, strawberry if you want. They are 40 calories each, have calcium and live cultures, and are so rich and creamy you'd swear they were more than 40 itty-bitty calories. :-) Tell me if this helps.
Some of these were already said...
  • Mashed banana
  • PB
  • Jelly (I guess thats what you're doin'?)
  • Cinnamin (sp?)
  • Pumpkin Butter (Might taste weird on blueberry)
  • Actual Blueberries
  • Apple Butter
  • Nutella (HATE the stuff but some people seem to like it...)
  • Cashew butter
  • This sugarfree malt syrup stufff..
  • Chocolate (not healthy though..)
  • Strawberry Mousse
  • Melted cheese (I'm weird.)
Anything I'd put on a bagel or a sandwich, I'd put on a waffle :) So peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese... be imaginative! It's really just bread if you think about it, so you could throw anything on there.
Well I make my own waffles and I sometimes mix in walnuts into the mix.  I still haven't tried the Kashi waffles yet though.
I love lite cream cheese on my Kashi waffles.
I like to warm up some applesauce in the microwave and top it with some walnuts and cinnamon, it's sooooo good :)
I've used Smart Balance Light (low calorie, non-hydrogenated buttery spread) and the sprinkled a little powdered sugar over that. mmmm and not a lot of calories!
