Wagon Jumpers - April 26 - May 2nd, 2009 (Closed, Waiting List Available)

Quote  |  Reply

Welcome

(If you are interested in being on the waiting list, please read below and e-mail me. We currently have a waiting list of 5 people.)

Welcome to the Wagon Jumpers weekly thread. We are a group of CC members who have identified that one of our main challenges with achieving our weight loss, maintenance or general health goals is consistency.

This thread is designed to encourage long term commitment to our goals by publicly declaring them and asking the other members of this thread to hold us accountable. The primary focus of wagon jumpers is not how much weight you have lost, or need to loose, but what you need to do on a daily basis to meet your long term goals.

There are two rules for Wagon Jumpers:

1. All members must post once per week between Sunday and Friday.

2. All members must check the thread for members who have not posted by Saturday (a short list is posted on Thursday) or are on the MIA list on Sunday and send them a polite and positive message to stay involved in the group and on track with their goals.

If you would like to be a member of this thread please see the guidelines below and send me a PM if you are still interested (there may be a waiting list).

Medium Size Group = Some Time Commitment

The original idea of Wagon Jumpers was to create a close community where participants could get to know each other and hopefully form virtual-life and perhaps even physical-life bonds to create a support network as they attempted long term weight loss.

We quickly discovered that this was impossible with an 'always open' group as there were too many people coming and going. For this reason the group is capped at 30 participants.

A medium sized group means that we have an active thread that produces between 40 - 60 posts per week. Members do not need to read / respond to every post every week. I do notice that those who respond regularly do tend to keep their goals top of mind, and have a better chance to achieve them. I estimate the average time spent by an active member on Wagon Jumpers to be between 1-2 hours per week.

If you are looking for an always open group  on CC there are several that operate by different weight criteria, similar motivational patterns etc... There are also many small groups that cap their numbers between 4-10 people to keep the group more intimate, and easier for members to keep up with.

Interested in Joining?

General Guidelines for Joining

1. Are you a wagon jumper?

Do you know how to loose weight, you often have success but then you find yourself loosing interest in your plan, or sabotaging your plan. It's not the "how" to loose weight that is the problem, it's the "how" to stay motivated.

2. Do you have a long way to go?

This group is designed so that members can get to know each other and support each other. Ideally you are planning to be a CC member and part of this forum for at least 6 months or more to achieve your goals and hopefully stay in motivation for a further 6 months or more.

Yes. This is, a long term plan.

3. Do you have the time?

This is a medium sized group, the thread does move fairly quickly each week. If you do not have regular internet access this is likely not the group for you.

Still interested?

Send Supersized a PM. (Please do not reply on the thread)

An overview will be sent to you, you will have a chance to ask questions and an invitation will be sent to you once a spot is open.

Google Group

We have recently added a google group as an option for members, past members, and members on the waiting list. If you would like access to the google group (and are in one of the above categories) send a message to beaglesmuggler (at) roger.com with your username and e-mail address and I will add you to the google group.

I've fallen off the wagon and can't get back up!

Exercise is non existent this week - pulled a back muscle...OW! Might try to walk today maybe if I can handle it.

My eating is terrible too. Overeating to the point that I felt sick to my stomach last night.

I think this is all triggered by the fact that i've gone over a month without showing an ounce of a loss.  So I overate for about a week and now im back up about 4 lbs.  GRR!

Just had that FML additude lately... I'm starting to feel that the 150's is my set point... maybe i should forget about the weightloss and just try to focus on my weightlifting again.

Of course i'd love to be a skinny little thing, but kinda feeling like its out of my reach.

Oh man... i need a slap in the face today.

SMACK!! Just kidding. Sorry to hear about your back Meg, I feel the same way about my toe at the moment, although I think I should manage a walk sometime today, puppy needs it. I overate last night as well and boy oh boy did my tummy hurt. Don't know why I do it, but sounds like I'm not alone (and neither are you).

Not showing any loss can be frustrating and I know that's a trigger for me as well. IMO, I think you probably should start lifting again. You loved it, you were always feeling so positive and happy about the changes you saw in your body when you were lifting.

Just my 2 cents anyway, you can tell me if I'm way off base :)

Nah! I think you are exactly right.  I think its just time for me to swtich up my routine again and I was able to eat more when I was lifting, plus it would be nice to not have flabby arms or tummy anymore! Its much easier to deal with no losses when you are trying to firm up.  If I lose, yay, if not, the look of my body will def be improving!

I think I'll definately restart NROL after my 5k on May 9.

Thanks for the smack.

Hi,

First of all -- THANKS THANKS AND THANKS. I do find it very difficult to talk about food and all that. I feel so weak for letting it get the best of me. But, I do think my husband criticism of it is unwarranted and the commiseration, ideas, and advice were great. One thing to note - my husband hates the food I love. I love veggies, fruits, salads. He like burgers, fries, club sandwiches, etc.  He is back at work and traveling so last night I made my daughter and I a bean soup with tofu and cabbage. It was really good - my daughter is so much like me she considered the cabbage like chocolate sauce on ice cream

Msmeg - pulled muscles really sucks. take ibuprofen, heat it now - you could have iced it when it first happened but the inflammation is not there. But I would take the dog out for a walk after the ibuprofen has kicked in - it is ok to take 4 ibuprofen on a short term basis (check wiht doctor - that is what my ortho told me)  I think you can do both running and lifting.  A thought is to focus on body shape, size, contours vs. weight... Maybe that is a better way to view it. Just a thought.

OK. so I have resolved to let my "comfort" foods go slowly. So I had my bagel and cream cheese on Monday and then today, Wednesday... I am working on it.  I am feeling like I am losing weight again - or at last bulk.

Thanks again

Carol

Hi everyone!

Glad to be back after the wedding and honeymoon. We had a great time. It takes a lot of planning for a wedding, and we only had 27 guests! We had lots of fun in NYC. Splurged on foie gras and duck confit. Mmmmm.... Anyway I have some making up to do. The only good thing was that we walked everywhere. Some days up to 4 hours! So I only missed out on 2 weeks of exercise. Yay! I have a lot of making up to do in the apartment and at our lots at the community garden. Spent the evening with hubby assembling a composter.

I am a very lucky girl, my hubby wants to start a running programme with me so we can get into shape together. It's great to have a workout buddy, now must find the time to do it. I also found at the local pharmacy 10 minute trainer DVDs for 20$ instead of the 60$ on TV and online. Now must make space to do those workouts. Hmmm, I'm full of excuses! Lol! Anyway I love variety.

I will read all of your posts later this weekend! Like I said, lots of catching up to do.

Take care all!

Carrie Welcome back! And big congrats on the weight loss while on vacation, I think that may be unheard of! :)

MsMeg Yeah, likely the change up is needed. Or maybe finding a way to manage the stress of the scale so it doesn't trigger you. Are you measuring as well as weighing?

Carol Sounds like hubby needs a lesson in double standards, he can't complain about your food control and then expect you to loose weight on burgers and fries!

Germaica Welcome back from the honey moon! I hope it was lovely! Have fun working out with the hubby!

Missing In Action - 1 Week:

The_Vitamin_Dominatrix

Thanks for the reminder Sara.  I just got back from a week away -- a road trip up to Oregon.  Sorry to say I did not drink enough water about 3 of the 7 days I was away.  So I'm not up to snuff on that goal.  I'm just going to eek out 1,500 exercise minutes for the month so my maintenance goal is fine.

All of my good habits went out the window once I walked into the gas station food store!  Also when I got to my mom's I kept snacking during the day!  Might not be getting on the scale today, but will weigh in tomorrow as it will be the first day of May!

Yeah Figurethefat... Oregon is paradise on earth!! Hope you enjoy your trip.

I've been here for 9 months... It's been a wild ride.  Not much happening with losing weight.  Still the same at five months ago.  At least I'm not gaining.  I am a lot healthier due to everybody's support.  I really, really appreciate it.  I didn't do well on setting my goals the first two times around, but I'm getting better at it.  Thanks to Sara...

Where am I this time on goals - right on course.  I have managed to keep my stated goals about 99% of the time.  Not that it's easy... It has taken some effort, but I'm happy with the way things are going.  My weight hasn't gone down, but I feel like my love handles are disappearing.

I'll be gone for a few days for a 4-day trek in the mountains.

Hey y'all!!!  I am here...I am here.  Thanks for the reminder - Sara and Meg!  I have been busy studying for my real estate exam and had several trips (doctors, therapy program), with Mom this week, not to mention having to babysit their dog while her physio therapist comes to the house.  I tell ya, I need more me time.  Anyhow...with regards to this week's topic, I am on track.  Have been keeping up with my interval classes, walking and even went roller blading with my little guy this week.  Pool is currently being cleaned, and when heater kicks in, will be swimming my blubber away.  tee, hee.

All is good, and will also be writing my exam on Saturday...wish me luck.  More importantly, all the best to you all throughout balance of this week, and next.

Ta ta for now.

Lee-Anne

Good luck, Lee-anne!

Congratulations, Germaica!

Way to go Carol!

:)

Hi all,

Many thanks to the ladies who are kind enough to remind me to check in.  It's been a blah time especially in coming back from holiday and as stupid as this may sound I WILL be back on track MAY 1st!!!....I've been good for 3 days then blow it, then history repeats itself.  However, I HAVE continued to keep my exercise goals which is walking 3x daily Monday to Friday, and some tennis on the weekend.  I'm still carrying 8 lbs since my holidays but I know with all you rallying behind me, I'll lose that.  Aiming for one pound a week, but focusing on keeping the exercise up!.

Thanks again to all those that wrote to me.......much appreciated!

Cheers,

Maureen

Well, I'm not doing a goal. Thanks for the 10 months Congrats Sara. Good job to everyone on track and for the ones who aren't you can do it.

*makes a grand entrance*  Here I am!
I am so sorry I was MIA for so long.  Between the move, and my new job, and needing to reinstall my OS on my laptop, I've been hard pressed to log on, let alone post for the last few weeks.

So far I have not made any progress on my goal at all.  I am not exercising at all right now beyond my activity level having gone up due to my new job.  I'm not even recording my calories consistently right now.

It's very frustrating.  I NEED to lose this weight, my wedding is only 4 1/2 months away.  So I really need to make time for counting my calories and for wagon jumpers to help me stay on track.

(PS)  Thanks very much to Supersized, msmeg, defrog3, carryonandon, constanza, and germaica for your concerns and friendly reminders to come back to the group.

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
