Wagon Jumpers - April 19 - 25th, 2009 (Closed, Waiting List Available)

Quote  |  Reply

Welcome

(If you are interested in being on the waiting list, please read below and e-mail me. We currently have a waiting list of 4 people.)

Welcome to the Wagon Jumpers weekly thread. We are a group of CC members who have identified that one of our main challenges with achieving our weight loss, maintenance or general health goals is consistency.

This thread is designed to encourage long term commitment to our goals by publicly declaring them and asking the other members of this thread to hold us accountable. The primary focus of wagon jumpers is not how much weight you have lost, or need to loose, but what you need to do on a daily basis to meet your long term goals.

There are two rules for Wagon Jumpers:

1. All members must post once per week between Sunday and Friday.

2. All members must check the thread for members who have not posted by Saturday (a short list is posted on Thursday) or are on the MIA list on Sunday and send them a polite and positive message to stay involved in the group and on track with their goals.

If you would like to be a member of this thread please see the guidelines below and send me a PM if you are still interested (there may be a waiting list).

Medium Size Group = Some Time Commitment

The original idea of Wagon Jumpers was to create a close community where participants could get to know each other and hopefully form virtual-life and perhaps even physical-life bonds to create a support network as they attempted long term weight loss.

We quickly discovered that this was impossible with an 'always open' group as there were too many people coming and going. For this reason the group is capped at 30 participants.

A medium sized group means that we have an active thread that produces between 40 - 60 posts per week. Members do not need to read / respond to every post every week. I do notice that those who respond regularly do tend to keep their goals top of mind, and have a better chance to achieve them. I estimate the average time spent by an active member on Wagon Jumpers to be between 1-2 hours per week.

If you are looking for an always open group  on CC there are several that operate by different weight criteria, similar motivational patterns etc... There are also many small groups that cap their numbers between 4-10 people to keep the group more intimate, and easier for members to keep up with.

Interested in Joining?

General Guidelines for Joining

1. Are you a wagon jumper?

Do you know how to loose weight, you often have success but then you find yourself loosing interest in your plan, or sabotaging your plan. It's not the "how" to loose weight that is the problem, it's the "how" to stay motivated.

2. Do you have a long way to go?

This group is designed so that members can get to know each other and support each other. Ideally you are planning to be a CC member and part of this forum for at least 6 months or more to achieve your goals and hopefully stay in motivation for a further 6 months or more.

Yes. This is, a long term plan.

3. Do you have the time?

This is a medium sized group, the thread does move fairly quickly each week. If you do not have regular internet access this is likely not the group for you.

Still interested?

Send Supersized a PM. (Please do not reply on the thread)

An overview will be sent to you, you will have a chance to ask questions and an invitation will be sent to you once a spot is open.

Google Group

We have recently added a google group as an option for members, past members, and members on the waiting list. If you would like access to the google group (and are in one of the above categories) send a message to beaglesmuggler (at) roger.com with your username and e-mail address and I will add you to the google group.

You guys always getme with these recipes things. I don't have a summer/spring recipe. I swear I'm going to have ton come up with a recipe one thing. I never like too many things in my salad. Sometimes I just prefer the lettuce.

hey guys!

I'm late this week. I don't have a favorite salad recipe, but I do like to add boiled eggs. I take away the yolk, cut the whites and then mix the yolk with lemon to make a dressing.

I've been doing great on the exercise, again I'm still figuring out how to eat the right percentiles.

Ok, here's my favorite salad. http://caloriecount.about.com/chicken-salad-r ecipe-r138822

I sometimes add some lemon juice and/or slivered toasted almonds, very tasty on a bed of greens or between two slices of toasted 12-grain bread sans crust.

I have been trying to use the link tool to give my link a clickable title, but it isn't working. Oh well, copy and paste? LOL.

Healthgain to all,
~Julie

Ok, so I think I have this recipe thing down.  This Southwesternn Steak Salad with Salsa-ranch is delicious and very easy to make.

I havent been very good about working out this week.  I got into a minor fender bender on Sunday and bruised my elbow.  I have let that little thing be my excuse for not working out.  I also have realized the power of writing everything down.  I missplaced my food log and it made it so much harder to keep myself accountable for what I was eating.  I meet with my trainer tomorrow so I know I'll get pumped up again about it all.

MsMeg you are on top of things.  Kuddos to you and Sara for always reminding my to write away.=)

I love salads and eat a lot of them.  I have some recipes that I have already posted here.

Daikon Salad (a trendy food in the taverns here with almost no calories; Daikon radishes are best harvested in cooler seasons)

http://caloriecount.about.com/daikon-dried-fi sh-salad-recipe-r125200

I'm from Alaska.  Crab Louie is a popular salad that is usually a main course.

Grilled eggplant is another simple recipe that can be done in the microwave although actually grilling it is best.

http://caloriecount.about.com/daikon-dried-fi sh-salad-recipe-r125200

This is another favorite for those that like chicken.

http://caloriecount.about.com/kathys-spring-c hicken-salad-recipe-r196642

Now you can eat "potato" salad without all the calories or the potatoes for that matter.  This is based on a Karenie, a CC+er, recipe.

Please enjoy!

Oh, I think I almost killed myself at the gym today. I did well on Wednesday having done the workout the previous week and suffered the first workout consequences then. To date I've been someone who picks one workout routine and then does that routine faithfully all the time with very little variation. But, after reading all the advice in New Rules of Lifting for Women, Health Habits, Alwyn Cosgrove and others I convinced myself to set up an excel sheet and carry a small piece of paper to the gym to make myself try different alternating workouts.

Well today was the first try at workout B, level 1 NROLFW and HIIT exercise week 2 exercise 2.... I now understand why switching workouts up gives better results. I am going to be SORE this weekend!

Julie What is Old Bay? Saw it in your recipe, no idea what it is.

Kathy Thanks for the many recipes, I've tagged several. For the Daikon, I've seen them in the grocery, but don't really know how to prepare them, they seem to have thick skin, I'm assuming that is peeled off?

Hi All, and thanks for writing with reminders.  It's tough to get on a computer when you're on one all day at work LOL.  Here is my recipe and I know I didn't cut and paste it properly but you now can see all the breakdown and I scored an A- on it which wasn't too bad.  I'm struggling to lose what I gained from my holidays but so far so good.  Thanks Sara for the reminders and to msmeg also.

Cheers,

Maureen

Here is the link to my salad. It's really yummy and you can't stop at one plate!!!

    Raspberry Spinach Salad

Daikon has a thin skin.  I usually peel it, but I don't sometimes.  I often use it as a substitute for potatoes in stews and soups.  It's one of the most common additions to miso soup.  I cut it in thin 1/4 inch slices and cut them in quarters so they look like little fans.  Cube some tofu into 1/2 inch cubes, add a little finely chopped green onions just before serving, and you have a low-calorie, vegetarian soup...

Oops.  It turned into a soup recipe section...

I will be gone from May 1st to May 5th.  Actually I won't be that far from home, but I will be walking.  I'm excited and a little nervous.  This will be the first time to walk four days in a row over five steep (1,000 meter/ 3,000 ft) peaks.

Kathy Did you want to take a break for the week of May 3-9 so that you have time to catch up when you are back?

THIS THREAD IS CLOSED, PLEASE POST ON OUR NEW WEEKLY THREAD:
