Wagon Jumpers - June 28 - July 4th, 2009 (Closed, Waiting List FULL!)
Welcome
(I have closed the waiting list at 4 people which is currently a 16 week wait, I will re-open in after we drop below 4 people. To find out what this group is about read below.)
Welcome to the Wagon Jumpers weekly thread. We are a group of CC members who have identified that one of our main challenges with achieving our weight loss, maintenance or general health goals is consistency.
This thread is designed to encourage long term commitment to our goals by publicly declaring them and asking the other members of this thread to hold us accountable. The primary focus of wagon jumpers is not how much weight you have lost, or need to loose, but what you need to do on a daily basis to meet your long term goals.
There are two rules for Wagon Jumpers:
1. All members must post once per week between Sunday and Friday.
2. All members must check the thread for members who have not posted by Saturday (a short list is posted on Thursday) or are on the MIA list on Sunday and send them a polite and positive message to stay involved in the group and on track with their goals.
If you would like to be a member of this thread please see the guidelines below and send me a PM if you are still interested (there may be a waiting list).
Medium Size Group = Some Time Commitment
The original idea of Wagon Jumpers was to create a close community where participants could get to know each other and hopefully form virtual-life and perhaps even physical-life bonds to create a support network as they attempted long term weight loss.
We quickly discovered that this was impossible with an 'always open' group as there were too many people coming and going. For this reason the group is finding its optimum level is between 20 and 25 participants.
A medium sized group means that we have an active thread that produces between 30 - 45 posts per week. Members do not need to read / respond to every post every week. I do notice that those who respond regularly do tend to keep their goals top of mind, and have a better chance to achieve them. I estimate the average time spent by an active member on Wagon Jumpers to be between 1-2 hours per week.
If you are looking for an always open group on CC there are several that operate by different weight criteria, similar motivational patterns etc... There are also many small groups that cap their numbers between 4-10 people to keep the group more intimate, and easier for members to keep up with.
Interested in Joining?
General Guidelines for Joining
1. Are you a wagon jumper?
Do you know how to loose weight, you often have success but then you find yourself loosing interest in your plan, or sabotaging your plan. It's not the "how" to loose weight that is the problem, it's the "how" to stay motivated.
2. Do you have a long way to go?
This group is designed so that members can get to know each other and support each other. Ideally you are planning to be a CC member and part of this forum for at least 6 months or more to achieve your goals and hopefully stay in motivation for a further 6 months or more.
Yes. This is, a long term plan.
3. Do you have the time?
This is a medium sized group, the thread does move fairly quickly each week. If you do not have regular internet access this is likely not the group for you.
Still interested?
Send Supersized a PM. (Please do not reply on the thread)
An overview will be sent to you, you will have a chance to ask questions and an invitation will be sent to you once a spot is open.
Google Group
We have recently added a google group as an option for members, past members, and members on the waiting list. If you would like access to the google group (and are in one of the above categories) send a message to beaglesmuggler (at) roger.com with your username and e-mail address and I will add you to the google group.

Hi all!
Thanks for the reminders, Sara and Carrie! Here are my goals:
1. (maintenance) Exercise an average of 2x/week
2. (new) For the next 12 weeks, (minus 12 possible slack-days), I will eat up to: 3 meals, 1 snack and 1 dessert per day with no more than 7 alcoholic drinks/week. This is my new meal plan.
You may have noticed that I upped my booze quota. I figured that would improve my chances of success - I'm really hoping to get to 100% this time around.
And for check-in - this week has been crazy - the hubby and I are on vacation with his family, which means I'm away from my space, and routine. Last week I got no exercise at all (also managed to get a nasty cold, on top of everything), but I'm back at it this week, trucking away with my beginning running plan. Food is harder to do, particularly with my in-laws. I think that they see our visits as a time to indulge all their foodie desires. Delicious, but really terrible when it comes to maintaining good eating habits. I'm getting better at identifying what I can/shouldn't indulge in, though, and sitting it out while everybody else shares brownie sundaes. Phew. Still, I'll be glad to get back to the relative safety of my little house at the end of the weekend.
Good luck, everyone, on the new goals! (And on the non-goals, for those of us working on producing healthy babies!)
Everybody seems to be off to a flying start on this round of goals. I will definitely get out and do a run.
I usually make little post-its using the 3-M glue stick that you can make your own postits with. I don't know what it is called in English, but I love those glue sticks. I put the postits on my computer to keep my goals in front of me. I just finished making a long thin one to record my runs and the dates for the 12 3K runs I intend to do.
cawilder - I will be in Portland in September. I have kids who live in Creswell and Seaside (actually Nehalem). My father has moved to North Bend after living 40-some years in Alaska. (I consider myself from Alaska.) I love Oregon. Winter is pretty tough in Portland, but not bad in Eugene (where I went to university). I was actually born in Oregon in Hepner...
Iam7 - you can log food after the fact, just change the date at the top of the log in page for each item as you enter it. I do it sometimes.
defrog - We can't wait to hear when your baby is born. We are looking forward to pictures!!!
I have been dragging my feet on setting my goal because once it is down it's down. I am feeling remarkably more motivated today. I did an hour long Bhangra class and (as silly as it might seem) I got a hair cut.
So with that: my new goal is to exercise 4 times a week 9 out of the 12 weeks.
All of a sudden I feel a little nervous, but I know I can do this.
I'm only able to pop in for a few minutes so I wanted to make sure I posted a goal as I really need one. I'm struggling so bad lately. Anyways I wanted my new goal to be excercising at least two days a week for 45 minutes at least 9/12 weeks. I know that doesnt sound like much but I don't want to discourage myself by biting off more than I can chew.
Just a little update on how I'm doing. I havn't been on CC lately my dad is an alcoholic/addict that is currently in a sober living home in Maine. We have had to pay so much for his recovery, three months in patient treatment and now twelve months at the sober living facility so to help pay we have decided to sell his house. This means lots of cleaning, painting, packing, etc. Currently my boyfriend and I are working on the painting as we don't want to waste money paying people to do it for us. The house is big so its going to take us a couple more weeks. Than on top of the painting I have been bottle feeding four week old kittens every three hours for the past week so its hard to get anything done. Anyways I'm going to sleep before I have to feed them again lol have a great week everyone I hope to get online more often but it will probably have to wait until the house is painted so we can start showing the house. I havnt been excercising this week I know I said I would be excercising with my sister but this week she went to visit my dad in Maine so I lost my motivation. I realize I can't rely on her for my success and when shes here if she wants to come thats great but I need to excercise regardless of if shes there or not. On the eating I have been doing awful, worse than before which is hard to imagine. Just today I ended up eating mcdonalds and arby's and a cookie all in one day. I don't know what I am doing but I need to get out of this slump. Every time I check in here on WJ I say I will eat better starting now but so far I havn't followed through. But I will say it again. I will eat better starting now.
Just checking in to say I'm going to be offline for a few weeks and won't be checking in. I'll be back the 2nd half of July.
Good luck with the 12 week goals everyone!
Me again!!!! kyashiis, thank you so much for making comment about being able to enter retroactively...YOU my dear have just saved my week. I say this because I did not completely enter my menu yesterday, and now I can...phew. I was logging onto this forum today to say that I have been unsuccessful coming out the gate, but now that you made comment....I am back on track. Now, the amount of food I am not so proud of but I know that logging everything is the right way to go to get me back in control.
Thanks again, and do have a great remainder of the week everyone.
Lee-Anne (Lam7)
jnielsen006, sorry to hear about your Dad, but good on you and your boyfriend/family for stepping in to help him. In reading your note, and your concern about not getting exercise in, just remember that all that painting accounts for exercise, so just make sure to log it as activity.

j - it's hard having an alcoholic parent. My mom was that way with a bad heart. In the end, she opted to drink rather than take her heart medicine. Then, she had a massive heart attack and died. I know I couldn't have saved her, but maybe intervention for alcoholicsm might have been appropriate. I was 26 years old when she died. It was so sad. It is important for you to do whatever you can for your dad. You can't do everything, but you can do a lot. And, you can cherish the time you have with him. Your boyfriend is a real trooper to help you and your family through this time. Do your best with your dietary and exercise goals through this time and know that is enough.
New Thread, coming this evening
Thanks lam7 and kyashiis for the support. I don't often tell people about my dad. I didn't realize I could count the painting but your right I feel like I spent the whole day at the gym after painting, especially in my arms lol. I'm sorry to hear about your mom kyashiis. My dad almost died in 2004 from similar reasons. He spent three weeks in the hospital. My family and I for the most part realize that although we can help my dad stay sober we ultimatly cannot control his actions and there for can't control the consequences. He seems to be doing really well though. He hasn't relapsed with the alcohol since December and the drugs since January. I know my boyfriend is a trooper I am so blessed to have him. He puts up with my crazy family (my family is far more crazy than my dad as my mom is married to a pedophile) He even puts up with me and my horrible anxiety/ocd.
On the bright side I finally stepped on the scale today after eating horribly for a month and I have actually lost a bit of the weight I gained and am almost back to my lowest weight. ![]()
