Wagon Jumpers - June 22 - July 5th, 2008 (two week special!)

Quote  |  Reply

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN EDITED FOR WEEK 2 RESPONDENTS

Welcome to the Wagon Jumpers weekly thread. We are a group of CC members who have identified that one of our main challenges with achieving our weight loss, maintenance or general health goals is consistency.

This thread is designed to encourage long term commitment to our goals by publicly declaring them and asking the other members of this thread to hold us accountable.

Each member on this thread (listed below) has agreed to check into the thread at least once per week. If any member does not check in by the end of the week, we ask all members to politely and positively PM that member and encourage them to make a post and stay on track (or get back on track).

If you would like to be a member of this thread, either leave a note here and I will add you, or send me a PM.

What Are The Numbers Beside The Names?

As our group is getting larger it is becoming more difficult to stay on top of 2 day and MIA reminders for members. While this is not a challenge, and not a competition, the numbers are here to encourage members to stay active in the program by identifying and rewarding those who are most active in the program.

Name - (Rem #/#, %; MIA #/#, %)

REM = Reminder (2 day reminder sent out on Thursday's)

#/# is how many reminders were needed out of how many weeks the person has participated.

% - is what percentage of time has the person been able to actively participate in the program unassisted by reminders.

MIA - is Missing In Action, you end up on the MIA list if you do not post Sunday - Saturday of a given week.

#/# - is how many weeks has the person been on the MIA list of the weeks participated.

% - is how much of the program has the person been active in.

In other words, your goal is to keep your numbers as low as possible and your percentages as high as possible. The way to do this is to make sure you post as early as you can in the week.

My campfire cough has become a full blow cold, complete with coughing up yucky stuff. I've cancelled my tennis game today, and the trip to the zoo tomorrow. I'm going to watch Buffy with mum tonight and go see Indiana Jones tomorrow. Not a big loss and better to get well than be sick for another week. The good news is that when I'm sick I really don't feel like eating.

Mum did take me out for dinner and to see Narnia yesterday for my birthday, the movie was good and I was really happy with the restaurant I picked. I wanted something laid back so I didn't need to dress up since I wasn't feeling well. So I picked an independent pub that focuses on local food called the Bow & Arrow. I was super happy with the menu since I'm a veggie I don't usually get a great selection of burgers. This place however lists all their burger types (like balckened cajun, curried mango chutney, guacamole & 'shroom etc...) and then gives you a choice between the type of pattie.... beef, chicken, bison or vegetarian! So I ate too much although I left the fries, but it was my birthday and I won't feel guilty about that.

Hurley_mom I'm all about letting the clothes tell the story instead of the scale. I figure clothes fitting well, getting too loose and how I feel is a much better and more reliable story than the scale.

ShannyshanHave a great long weekend, catch up with us next week!

Ld1984 Congratulations on being out of the 190's!

Inshapemommy I agree with the general direction you gave Karen, however, I disagree with the statement that food is only for hunger and the "eat to live don't live to eat". Generally I watch the second quite closely as it's often used as a pro-anorexia slogan. We are social creatures and food is a large part of how we socialize. I think if weight loss is going to be long term the key to success is learning how to manage our relationships with food.

Success is planning food, and how we can use it not just to sustain hunger but also to be sociable in a responsible manner. Planning for the h'ordeuvers at a work function or the b-day cake instead of chasing down the waiter with the mini-quiches or scarfing down three pieces of cake.

I find it's too easy to fall or "slip up" if food has to be a "hungry only" mentality. This is not to say that asking the question "am I hungry" or "do I need this" to stave off mindless or emotional eating is not powerful, but I would not go so far as to say that we eat only for hunger.

Ser25 Sounds like you are doing well, how did the ice cream date go?

Jane It may have been in a thread, you probably told me early on before I got in the habit of asking people to e-mail me so I had it somewhere a bit more easy to access. I am going to pray that you meet a really nice guy who puts as much effort into a long distance relationship as you likely did who is hopefully not long distance. I know you're still in the want him back stage, but IME most of my girlfriends (and myself) have been through that time waster and find someone much better out the other end.

Lilley1199 I know what you mean about the "stuffed means satisfied" I was like that for so long. Now that I've really been watching what I eat for 19 weeks now I find that when I do eat to even close to stuffed (which is now significantly less than it used to be) I feel really sick, so I now have a double incentive not to get to stuffed.

SkinnybyJune9th Have a great long weekend. Congratulations on making it to the gym. A few more times and you will be feeling good about it again. Or, at least that is what I am telling myself.

Jilly_bean Np, the 2 day reminders came in for a few reasons. Mostly because I realized that people were confused and seeing it as a lot of work to read though a thread and check who had and had not posted so the 2 day reminder list was a shorter check. Also, I found that without it about half the people forgot and ended up on the MIA list and it's a lot more work to send MIA notices twice and move the names around than to try to get at least half the people back with the 2 day reminder.

My general suggestion would if you are logging everyday try to stop by Sunday or Monday just for a quick check and if you are up for a longer post later in the week you can do so at your leisure.

Finding the time for exercise is also a big challenge for me. You missed my whiny posts about not being able to get up in the mornings. I am hoping after I am over this cold that I will still be able to see 6am without wanting to kill people next week.

Sorry to hear about your cold!  I've been under the weather this week myself, I've got gout, for those who haven't experienced it.....don't!  My right foot is swollen and extremely painful.  This is typically called a rich mans illness, caused by eating rich foods.  I'm a poor, female who eats right.....so let the medical folks figure it out!

I've decided that once this foot  clears up I will eat a detox diet for a week.  Fruits, veggies, herbal teas and water.  I did it about 12 weeks ago and felt great afterward.

Just checking in! I had some computer issues so I couldnt post sooner! But I am happy to say Im still on the wagon WooHoo!

Yeah....this week wasn't so great....a lot of pizza and candy at work.  But, I have time to go shopping for my Smart Ones meals and now that the holiday weekend is done, things should be better.

Can I join in?  I've read some of the posts and really like this thread. Not too many I like that are like this. :D

I'm having a hard time lately with the sweets. And it's keeping me from getting out of the 180's for good. I get to 178 lbs and go right back to 180 within a few days. I don't know what it is with me. Just when I think I'm in the 170's, it shoots right back up. :(

I've been on this journey for 8 months and I've lost about 60 lbs and 39.5 inches!  My goal is 155 lbs. I want to get there in September sometime.

happy birthday supersized! i hope you are having nice, healthy weekend

I am checking in for the first week.  Haven't done too well with the 4th of July and everything, but plan to get back on track.  I find it hard to input my food I have eaten on here, I do so much better with a notebook and pen being right there on the kitchen counter.  I think I will start bringing that to the computer at the end of the day and putting it all in at once.  Hope everyone has a good week :)
