Wagon Jumpers - May 3 - May 9th, 2009 (Closed, Waiting List Available)

Quote  |  Reply

Welcome

(If you are interested in being on the waiting list, please read below and e-mail me. We currently have a waiting list of 5 people.)

Welcome to the Wagon Jumpers weekly thread. We are a group of CC members who have identified that one of our main challenges with achieving our weight loss, maintenance or general health goals is consistency.

This thread is designed to encourage long term commitment to our goals by publicly declaring them and asking the other members of this thread to hold us accountable. The primary focus of wagon jumpers is not how much weight you have lost, or need to loose, but what you need to do on a daily basis to meet your long term goals.

There are two rules for Wagon Jumpers:

1. All members must post once per week between Sunday and Friday.

2. All members must check the thread for members who have not posted by Saturday (a short list is posted on Thursday) or are on the MIA list on Sunday and send them a polite and positive message to stay involved in the group and on track with their goals.

If you would like to be a member of this thread please see the guidelines below and send me a PM if you are still interested (there may be a waiting list).

Medium Size Group = Some Time Commitment

The original idea of Wagon Jumpers was to create a close community where participants could get to know each other and hopefully form virtual-life and perhaps even physical-life bonds to create a support network as they attempted long term weight loss.

We quickly discovered that this was impossible with an 'always open' group as there were too many people coming and going. For this reason the group is capped at 30 participants.

A medium sized group means that we have an active thread that produces between 40 - 60 posts per week. Members do not need to read / respond to every post every week. I do notice that those who respond regularly do tend to keep their goals top of mind, and have a better chance to achieve them. I estimate the average time spent by an active member on Wagon Jumpers to be between 1-2 hours per week.

If you are looking for an always open group  on CC there are several that operate by different weight criteria, similar motivational patterns etc... There are also many small groups that cap their numbers between 4-10 people to keep the group more intimate, and easier for members to keep up with.

Interested in Joining?

General Guidelines for Joining

1. Are you a wagon jumper?

Do you know how to loose weight, you often have success but then you find yourself loosing interest in your plan, or sabotaging your plan. It's not the "how" to loose weight that is the problem, it's the "how" to stay motivated.

2. Do you have a long way to go?

This group is designed so that members can get to know each other and support each other. Ideally you are planning to be a CC member and part of this forum for at least 6 months or more to achieve your goals and hopefully stay in motivation for a further 6 months or more.

Yes. This is, a long term plan.

3. Do you have the time?

This is a medium sized group, the thread does move fairly quickly each week. If you do not have regular internet access this is likely not the group for you.

Still interested?

Send Supersized a PM. (Please do not reply on the thread)

An overview will be sent to you, you will have a chance to ask questions and an invitation will be sent to you once a spot is open.

Google Group

We have recently added a google group as an option for members, past members, and members on the waiting list. If you would like access to the google group (and are in one of the above categories) send a message to beaglesmuggler (at) roger.com with your username and e-mail address and I will add you to the google group.

Carol - I absolutely love hulu and think its the best thing that's ever happened to the interwebs after Wagon Jumpers. haha. The only thing bad about it is - that my husband won't get his own queue and gets mad if I watch some episode of something we both like without him (even though we could watch it again!).  Also, what you wrote about the Biggest Loser is right on. Like germaica said, it seems motivation can fall somewhere between wanting to look good and being healthy. This is true for me.

Sara - good luck during your transition. Making changes can be really stressful and that's usually when a lot of us fall off the wagon as our routines are upset. Have a good time in your two weeks off! Also, thanks for letting us know about wenchie - I'll be thinking about her!

tiegurl - Can't wait to hear when you get in. That's a quick move, but I'm sure you can do it! My husband and I will be moving to SC in a few months and I've been using Google Maps as a tool to help plan - they have a new function that lets you create detailed annotated maps, so I've marked all the potential apartments in our price range that meet our wants list.  Then you can do a search within your map and have it pull up all the restaurants/bars/hotels/museums, etc. and see where they are in relation to the places you marked on the map. It's great!

Also, if you don't know a lot about the city you'll be moving to check out the Vistor and Convention Bureau website for it. Web searches for "visit 'city name here'" will also yield very good results. (I used to work in tour operating and that search term was pretty universal for finding most city resources - even internationally.) Oh! We also discovered that Penske has the cheapest rates on one-way moves if you book early (this takes into account days included in the move, mileage and gas - and you can change/cancel the moving date later if you need to). Planning stuff like this is a hobby for me, so let me know if you want any tips/help.

Hey gals -

Busy week for me this week, but just used my lunch  hour to catch up with all thats been going on at Wagon Jumper central :)

Kinda feeling so-so about the 5k tomorrow. I'm not sure how well that will go...

Its nasty and rainy here today, but hopefully it won't be like that all weekend. I have a lot of things i'd like to do this weekend...

I also want to take my puppy to play at my mom and dads house on sunday. They have a lot of room to run and play - maybe it will make her tired!

Hi Meg,

Good luck with the 5K tomorrow, I'll be thinking of ya! Let me know how it goes, I wussed out of a 5K year this (supposed to be next weekend but since I broke my toe a couple weeks ago it has set me back a bit with the running, just started back at it Tuesday, can only go about 10mins stretches without getting really tired).

It's rainy here today as well and giving it all weekend, which sucks because it's the last week for our paintball field to be open (my husband and I run a paintball field), we're closing because our town just isn't big enough to support it and insurance costs are rising.

I LOVE taking my puppy to my folks and since he's really their only "grandkid" they love having him around, especially my mom.

Have a great weekend. Very quiet on the thread today.

Carrie

MsMeg Good luck on the 5K tomorrow.

I'm totally off my rhythm today. yesterday. the day before. I need to regroup.

Thanks for the advice carryonandon and the offering of advice.

Msmeg good luck on the 5k.

I am so sorry everyone. I feel like I'm not being a very good team member here. It's just that after my vacation I've had a really hard time getting my "poop in a group" for lack of a better phrase. Well, as of yesterday things have been a little better. I ate really well and I felt better than I have in a long time and that feeling has continued through today, so I am hoping this means a fresh start. Cross your fingers for me please! :)

So here's to fresh starts, getting back on track and being healthy!

Ashley

Ashley Don't worry about it, we all struggle getting back into a routine and to our goal after we take a vacation... or well... at least many of us do, myself included. I try to see it as a little learning lesson, and hopefully (as I am now on two weeks vacation) I'll have a little strategy for how to keep myself on track after that.

Thanks for all the good wishes for my 5k! It was this morning and it was great! My goal was to cross the finish line before 35:00 and i made it at 34:00!

I ran all but about a minute of it because my partner got a cramp, but i am so proud of myself :)

I've felt good all day :)

Congrats msmeg! Wow I can only dream of that. Yay to you!

Congrats also to Sara on 1 YEAR with Wagon Jumpers! Thanks again for creating and maintaning this forum. It's such  great source of support for all of us. And a safe place to rant sometimes too.

Congrats also to Cawilder, Nannygabber, Lam7 and Wenchie58 for your WJ anniversaries! Lol!!

5 months sure goes by fast, but I'm glad I have been focusing on my health and learning about myself along the way. Without this forum I would have given up long ago, waiting for another January 1st to start over again. At least here I can rant about it and rave about my journey, witch keeps me focused on my goals. I'm happy to say I ran for 1 minute last night (slowly though). I haven't run since I was a teenager. In about a month or two I should be slow running for 30 minutes. I'm very excited about that.

Have a healthgain weekend everyone!

Congratulations MsMeg on making your 5K goal! Germaica I wouldn't have made it to a year without the group either. Thanks to all.
