I'm just signed up today and found this site very helpful and informative.  I have started exercising and watching the calories I eat since January.  I do cardio atleast 30 min 4-5 days/wk and some strenght training 3x/wk, my weight loss is slow but I'm happy with the result, so far I have loss 8 lbs.  Having 4 kids resulted in having a big pouch in my belly, I can tell it's fat because it's so wiggly.  I now weigh 112 lb, used to wear size 9, now I'm back to my size 6 jeans, but I need to tone and loose the fat.  Any suggestions?

1. way to go with the weight loss! it's great that you're able to fit back into your old jeans! i'm still working on some of mine :)

2. you can't spot reduce--it sucks but it's true.

HOWEVER

you CAN tone all that muscle in your mid-section so that as you lower your body fat, the muscles will come out and you'll have a beautiful tummy!

some good ab exercises:
bicycle crunches--extremely effective
regular crunches
crunches on an exercise ball
leg lifts (lie on back and extend legs together over head, lower to floor, hold for a sec, then bring back up--try not to arch your back or let it leave the floor)

just concentrate on your abdominal muscles and the obliques.  twisting from the waist while standing up is also a good way to get in a good ab workout.  if you do a search for ab exercises, you'll come up with some really GREAT sites
thanks, I'll definitely do that and I try to increase my cardio cause it looks like I hit a plateu, I have been steady with my weight for 3 weeks now.
Hi,

My mother has had three children and had the same belly problems you've described; she bought a pilates DVD and has gotten rid of the belly fat nearly completely, in around four months or so. Because pilates targets the lower stomach in particular, I hear that it's especially helpful to mothers.

Hope that helps!

Andry
