waitt...so am i done?
okay so im 15, 5'3.5" or 5'4" female and i weigh 95.5-96 lbs. im recovering from anorexia and this is the weight my doc said would be safe to start excersising again at. but does this mean i can stop gaining weight now? pre-ed i weighed about 110 at 5'3" and ate basically whatever i wanted. ahh im so confused do i keep gaining or should i stop here? sorry if this is confusing but im a little confused myself haha and dont know what to do.
thanks so much for your help :)
youre still very underweight and i cant even believe anyone would say its ok to excercise at that weight, let alone stop gaining, thats bizarre.
you are still very underweight and should not be exercising yet - not even weights. You should still keep gaining back up to a healthy weight and probably (this is what my doctor told me) not start to do exercise until you are around 95% of your ideal weight. Good luck :)
according to the standard charts, you are still underweight and unhealthy. your doctor, however, knows more than anyone here. he said its safe for you to begin exercising again, because exercise is healthy. you shouldnt lose weight, and until you go talk to your doctor again, i would keep gaining, which means you will need to eat even more to make up for the calories burned exercising. for a person 5'3, 107 is the lowest weight considered to be healthy, which would still leave you quite thin. i might shoot for that unless your doctor says something else. good luck
edited to add info
I'm not sure what weight charts people are looking at, but for a 15 year old the adult charts are NOT appropriate. Use this weight calculator and you will see where her doctor got this weight.

My daughter is 13, 5'3 and 95lbs- no hx of an eating disorder whatsoever- and that chart states that she is in the 19th percentile and at a healthy weight. She plays basketball BTW- so that squashes the whole DON'T EXERCISE at that weight thing.
I know this young lady is recovering from an ED, but she needs to continue to listen to the doctor and not well meaning posters- myself included
Please, when you're advising someone who needs help, make sure you have your facts straight.
OP- listen to your doc!!!
In a nutshell: you are definitely not done. If I were your doctor, I wouldn't let you exercise yet. If your doctor says so, though, then you can—but remember to keep it light. You are still extremely underweight.
Edit: spelling error
Keep eatting dear. At 15 i too had an eatting disorder, although i am 5'4 and my lowest weight was 90lbs. I started experiencing my hair falling out and became excessively tired. I suggest you continue to eat as your doctor is advising. I would start walking maybe 30mins 3 times a week. Take it slow.. everything takes time to move its course. Your body is adapting to getting the nutrients that it needs.
Good luck, take care of yourself.. i had a big scare when i was anorexic. Your body is forever so take care of it now. Another thing i started doing once i felt better was yoga. I would attend a class twice a week.
Two main things:
The first is that just because its safe for you to exercise again does not make it an order. If you dont feel up to it yet then dont! The gym will be there tomorrow and will even be there next week. I know, its wierd.
The second thing is that you need to stop gaining weight... when you want to. I think since you are having a little anxiety about your weight that might be a hint that there are still some Anorexic thoughts that need to be overcome as well. Be where your comfortable and happy. in the end that is the only thing that does/will matter. I think part of anorexia is that we forget ourselves and focus on others more. Just know your worth it!
110 is a healthy weight, and it is recommended that people recovering reach AT LEAST a pre ED weight
Don’t stop gaining until you reach 110 lbs, because at your age you are STILL growing into a women and it is likely that your body shape may still need to develop so 110 lbs will allow you to grow properly, any LESS could stunt your growth and hold your body back from developing properly
I am 5’5 and weigh 110 - 113 and am 21 years old with a BMI of almost 19 and I am healthy and I do not look too thin for my build even though my BMI is on the low side
From experience, if your goal is to attain HEALTH and NOT to maintain a certain image that you feel comfortable with ( like weighing below 110) then you will be fine, just aim for health, not image
REMEMBER: you may FEEL fine, but that does not mean that you should stop gaining JUST because you feel “ healthy”
The problems that you could cause by staying under your pre ED weight of 110 do not HAVE any symptoms until IT IS TOO LATE; your bones and fertility are things you will not notice until later.
Also, having a goal does not mean you have to stay there! Reaching a pre ED weight will make you LESS likely to relapse, but at 110 and you lose 1 or 2 lbs even though you KNOW FOR SURE that you ARE eating enough, then it should be fine to stay a tiny bit lighter, if it is your bodies natural weight.
Back in February, you journaled that your low BMI frightened you. It should still frighten you if that's what it's going to take for you to finally realize that you absolutely must gain weight or suffer some pretty awful consequences. Everything has been said that needs to be said to you in reply to your past posts. Go back and read them over. You'll find a list of your posts at the bottom of your profile. I hope reading the caring replies you got from so many people will help.
keep going! your still not at a healthy weight. if you dont mind me asking, do you have your period?
