I wake up around 2pm everyday how should I eat to lose weight?

Quote  |  Reply

I wake up almost everyday around 2pm so I don't eat breakfast or lunch.  I then have 1 protein shake when I wake up and go to the gym for 2 hours doing 2miles on the treadmill which is metered says i burn 230calories in a half hour and weight lifting for the rest of the time which i burn about 400-500 calories doing that.  I then come home around 5pm and eat dinner which my dinner I eat is usually between 1000-1500 calories so by then im up to about 1700 calories in a day but the chart says i have to at least eat 2350 calories a day in order to lose 30 pounds in 4 1/2 months.  It's hard for me to reach my calorie goal everyday because I usually only eat once or maybe twice a day.  I then get hungry around midnight and probably eat about 400-500 calories at that time and then dont go to bed until 3am and then wake up once again at 2pm doing the same thing all over.  The reason for this is because I don't work in the winter time for landscaping so i stay up all night and sleep in most the day.

I am 6'2 male 225lbs my goal weight is to be 195lbs in 4 1/2 months and the calorie burned counter says I burn around 3000-3600 calories everyday by doing what I do.  Thanks for any help

If you're not going to bed until 3, you should definitely have a bigger meal before bed!  You said you eat with your family at 5...then you go 10 hours without eating a full meal  until 3?  Just because you're on a different time schedule doesn't mean you shouldn't get at least 3 square meals a day.

I eat at 5pm alot of calories between 1000-1500 in just that sittin but also most the time i eat again around midnight like 400-500 calories and then after that i go to sleep at 3am and wake up at 2pm.  So is this actully ok what im doing.  It's just wierd to me because within 2 months I gained 20 pounds and i probably was only eating about 1300 calories a day and somehow I gained weight but this is also before i started going to the gym which was 2 weeks ago

I'm curious about this too.

After a series of bad events, I haven't been able to fall asleep until 5am. During school I was going to bed at 5 am and getting up around 9:30am during the weekdays. I wouldn't actually start getting hungry until about 5 pm though..and then again around midnight.

Now that school is out I go to bed at 5 am and when I get up varies from 10am-3pm (depending on what I need to do).  On this schedule I haven't been getting hungry until about 8pm.

I feel like I'm at a standstill as far as weight loss goes, and I'm wondering if my messed up sleeping patterns are the main cause.

Same with me. I wake up at 1ish and go to bed a 2am. Right when I wake up I eat some oatmeal or kashi, hit the gym for 75 min of heavy lifting, and 30 minutes of running (usually four miles). It says i burn 2800cals a day, but i think both of us need less than what is calculated since we sleep more than the normal person, so we are less active than the normal person. However, im not positive about this...but i think it makes sense.

Another Question I wanted to know is what if i dont eat nothing the whole day but when dinner time comes i just eat all my calories in that sitting which mainly consist of alot of chicken, vegetables, and maybe some rice.  But most the time after dinner I still have a decent ways to go to reach my calorie goal intake

Eating all your calories in one sitting is not good.  You won't lose weight that way, as your metabolism will be seriously screwed up b/c your body will think for like 18 hours out of the day that you are starving.

Also, are you sure that weightlifting is burning that much?  Seems like a lot for a non-cardio activity.

I'm pretty sure im burning that much at least thats what the calculator said on CC.  So it recommends I eat 2350 calories a day to get to my weight goal so say i eat 1300 for dinner but i still need like another 1000 couldnt I eat them through out the night since I don't go to sleep until 3am and then wake up at 2pm

I'm pretty sure that you should STOP your wonky sleep schedule and that would fix a lot of things. People are meant to sleep when its dark out and get up when its light out. You wont lose any time, in fact you will probably get more done. It surprised me when i stopped sleeping in real late how much you can do before midday, the time usually lost by night owls.

You will feel much better all around Im sure, your body will feel better your head clearer and you will be so much more productive in a day.

If you're actually lifting as much as you can and doing exercises involving muscle groups, you can easily burn as many calories as were listed.  My heart rate goes right up when I do things like weighted step-ups and lunges.  Weight lifting definitely has a cardio component to it.

To the OP: I think only eating once or twice a day is a big part of the problem.  Is it not possible for you to break your food into five or so smaller meals?  I suspect that would do a better job of keeping your metabolism burning strong all day.

Yea it is pretty hard for me to eat at least 4 or more meals a day since i dont get up usually until 2pm which is meal 1 then work out for a few then afterwards have dinner which is meal 2 and then have a snack around 10pm or so which is meal 3 since i dont go to sleep till 3am, So im guessing its gonna take me a really long time to lose any weight unless i wake up earlier which im not much of a breakfast person either

Well what I do is this...

Wake up at 1pm, eat some kashi or oatmeal with fruit. (400cals)

Workout at 2pm to like 4pm.

Right after I have a protein shake (300cals).

At 6pm I have dinner, which is my biggest meal. Usually a little pasta, about 9 oz of lean meat like chicken or fish, and a huge plate of veggies (600cals).

At 9pm I have a snack like a protein bar or, if i feel like it, something sweet and not so healthy...like a few cookies or something (450cals).

At 12am at the latest I have a cup of cottage cheese and a turkey sandwich of whole wheat (550 cals) then at 2-3am i sleep.

This brings me to 2300cals. I burn about 2800cals a day, so I've been trying to add another meal, since i want to maintain, but what I'll most likely do is add some more calorie dense foods, like nuts or dried fruit, to my normal meals. You should probably so a similar meal plan like mine. You will still have a big dinner, but at least you will eat more through out the day and that will keep your metabolism going, and since you are eating less than maintenance you will still lose weight.
