Waking up to eat= fast metabolism??
So recently I have been getting hungry pretty frequently (which is good because I used to have trouble stimulating an appetite)
but recently my appetite has been ferocious...for instance yesterday I ate dinner really late (9:30pm had a frozen burrito after i got off work)...then at around 11pm before bed I had a hunk of zucchini bread with 3/4c 2% greek yoghurt...and first I thought it was bad that I was eating so densely prior to bedtime...but then I woke up at 5:30 am because I was STARVING!
So now its 6:30 am and I've already eaten breakfast (hunk zucchini bread, 1c 2% greek yoghurt, tbsp flaxseed, strawberries)...
so i guess my question is, if i can't even sleep a full night without waking up too early out of hunger is that sign of a faster metabolism?
Hi Finskafisk, I guess there are a few possibilities:
-yes, it is a sign of a faster metabolism
-it might just be a couple of hungry days. I have those, too.
-if you've been moving around more, then you'll of course be hungrier.
-if you're not eating enough during the day, you'll be hungrier.
I guess I'd say log your activity and food carefully for a couple of days, and just see if you've got a caloric deficit. I wake up hungry every morning, and I wake up especially hungry if I've eaten something heavy late the night before. Maybe food late at night keeps my body up and burning all night, giving the metabolism no chance to rest for the evening. Like you, I generally try to avoid eating late at night for that reason.
Edit: removed line about weight loss, since I noticed this is in the Weight Gain forum. :-)
It could just be that you're actually tired... I've had that sometimes where I start getting ravenous because I don't realize how exhausted I am. Or you could be really thirsty. Before you eat, try drinking some water.
I've wondered this same thing myself. When I started CC, I could eat 1200-1300 calories and not be hungry, but after awhile, I started getting to where anything less than 1600 calories and I would wake up starving in the morning and sometimes even wake up around 3-4:00 and have to go get something to eat in order to get back to sleep. I would always try to get something with protein if I woke up in the middle of the night - string cheese or spoon of peanut butter usually. I do believe that how much proten you have at dinner makes a big difference, too. If I just do stir-fry veggies at dinner, then I can almost guarantee a mid-night run to the kitchen even if I met the 1600 calories during the day.
I haven't exercised the way I should the past 2 weeks and am back to feeling full on 1300 calories. So, I like to think the difference is that my metabolism was getting straightened back out after years of being out of whack.
