Walking, Jogging, Running, Swimming or any other exercise?

Quote  |  Reply

Today, I started back my little walk.  Down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, around through the kitchen living room, out the front door on the porch (where my new pictures were taken) back in to the bedroom.  I tried to keep breathing through my nose and not through my mouth.  I paused at the end of our carport to enjoy the sounds of the  birds and the warm sunshine.  Back to baby steps.  I can't wait to do this without the walker.

YEAH Norma Jean!!! Get back at it. I'm so glad you are feeling better. And, I love the pictures!!

I am missing my early morning walks.

I was walking a mile to 1.25 miles in 30 - 35 minutes.  I started this on 04/16/09.  Last Friday, I came down with that silly flu stuff.  I wasn't able to walk.  I was hoping to start back up this morning.

But......  I didn't go for my walk this morning.  Keith asked me to make a pot of chili last night for dinner.  That man can eat chili year round.  Anyway, yesterday was my first full day of a normal appetite.  Putting homemade chili on top of an flu empty stomach?  It's not a pretty sight.  Let's put it this way.  I think that I should not be far from the bathroom today.  Embarassed

Maybe tomorrow.......

Way to go Norma Jean........baby steps......you've told me that a few times and it's so right on the money!!
You'll be walking without that 'ol walker before you know it!

Good for You!!!!  Something compelled me earlier to check out your pics.  You are a beautiful lady, and I saw your pics outside.  Keep up the good work.  I'll be praying for you.

First thing this morning, before eating my oatmeal, I took a lap in the house went down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, around through the kitchen living room and back in to the bedroom.  I am not feeling well again.  My breathing is a little labored this morning.  It is very warm and with the fire in Santa Barbara (an hour's drive from where I live) the smoke is actually affecting our air in Ventura County.  I did check my oxygen level right away and it started at 93 and worked back up to 98 after sitting for a few minutes.  I just need to take it easy.  The temperature is suppose to be 99 today and my feet are again swollen (yesterday and today).  I did take a water pill.

You and I both did real good today Norma Jean.
It's very humid here in my neck of the woods. But me and my dog went for a long walk in which I found it difficult to breath. It was very laboring.

I didn't know you lived so close to the fires.......do take care and take it easy.

I didn't walk again.  Cry

It was raining.  Coming off of having a sore throat, I did not want to set up a situation that would cause a relapse.  I think that I will continue to rest up for the rest of the week.  I will start back with my walking on Monday morning.  I should be completely over this flu thingy so that I would not relapse.

I am really missing my walking.  That is my "alone time".  I actually pray and talk to God while I am walking.  No interruptions.  I'm not saying that I don't pray at home.  It just that as I am praying I am saying "excuse me God, I need to go see who is hitting who".  Or go check to see what got knocked over.  God must appreciate the prayers of a mother.  Innocent

I know how hard this is for you.  The weather is crazy as of late.  You have rain and I have 99 degree weather. Let's get you (and me) healthy so we have no more relapses.  Walking is the best exercise!  I am hoping in June I can actually go to the pool here.  I need to build up strength in these legs.

It is so tranquil when you walk and pray, enjoying nature as God intended.

Before breakfast, I took a lap in the house went down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, around through the kitchen living room and back in to the bedroom.  After finishing my breakfast, I took another lap in the house went down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, around through the kitchen living room and back in to the bedroom.  My muscles in my left leg were kind of giving out on me but I would not let it detour me.

Denna, good to hear that you're resting. Getting your body to heal completely is the key.
I do the same thing.......walking with the Lord.......our "alone" time.

Norma Jean, 99 degrees....that's crazy for Cal weather!!
You're doing great too. Walking away the pounds! That's the ticket!

Today was a little too hot for my taste, but at least it wasn't humid like yesterday. Tomorrow we're expecting rain, blah.

June is around the time when I hit the pool too. I love, love, love to swim!

Norma Jean- I am INCREDIBLY happy to hear you are up and around! Jumping for JOY for you!

Today, I was a little lightheaded for some reason.  I did get a little walking - once around the living room/kitchen, down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, around through the kitchen living room, and in to the bedroom.  I laid down for a little and felt better.  Was going to do it an hour later but it had got warmer and Andy said it could wait.  Some movement was better than none today.

Hi, I'm glad you walked today, good for you.  I went for my normal 3 miles today, I want to increase my distance, but I just can't seem to get past sitting down on a bench when I make it to the lake shore, its so pretty, I just sit and watch the water instead moving on down the road  a ways.  I'm glad for you.

Bench by the lake shore?  I would have to stop also.  That must be so peaceful.

I am planning to get back to walking tomorrow morning.  I will get Glynn on the bus, then I will go for my walk.  I can't wait.  I am missing my walking.

I finally got back to my walking.  I walked the same 1.25 mile route that I had been walking before I got sick.  It took me a little longer, but I got it done.  It took me 40 minutes this morning.

Yeah Denna!  I was thinking of you this morning Wink and hoping you got your walk in after taking Glynn to the bus stop.

Seems like I have a new energy this morning.  I missed out on my walk yesterday because Andy was trying to help JM with his final essays.  Andy left to go see his cardiologist about 45 minutes ago, soI asked JM to be with me - I had to walk!

Today, I took a lap in the house went down the stairs, end of carport, back up stairs, back down stairs, end of carport, back up stairs. around through the kitchen living room and back in to the bedroom.  I was out of breath, but sitting here I feel like I could do it again.  Don't want to push it because I am coughing as I type.  This darn dry cough just will not go away!

my cough is lingering too - I'll be glad to be cough free again (my boss will enjoy it too)

We went swimming yesterday and I swam the whole length of pool pretty vigorously without breaks. then last night layed on the floor and played with my exercise ball, throwing it up in the air and kicking it with my feet.  It's one of those large ones (and heavy from the sand) and wow - I can feel it in my abs and arms this morning.  but it does feel good to be sore - I know even when resting that fat will be burning off - and that's a good feeling.

I had company this morning with my walk.  My neighbor decided that she wanted to walk with me after she put her daughter on the bus.  The more that Anita talked, the faster she walked.  My knees were burning when I got home.  We made the full 1.25 mile trek (though I did not time it).

Denna ~ I bet the extra intensity was tough!!! I tend to be "Anita" with my walking partner here at work. I keep having to remind myself that she has way shorter legs , a funky brace for her one foot for distance walking, and that just cuz she's keeping up doesn't mean she's happy!!! It is nice to have a partner, though. I walk on days I'd rather not because she is waiting for me and we both push each other to walk the entire distance when one of us would rather stop half way and turn around. I'm all for exercise partners!!!

Isn't God wonderful - to send you a walking buddy!!

(which does seem to be faster than walking alone! - I'll be looking forward to hearing the time tomorrow if she comes again)
