I walked 3 miles today and I have no idea how to put that into Today's Activity Log. I have tried the search box by typing walking 3 miles, ect. I have no idea how many minutes it took me for I was not keeping track.
If you were walking at a quick pace it probably took you about 50 minutes, 60 if you're a bit slower. Just estimate the time based on that and next time keep track of the time.
If you don't know how fast you were going, put it down at 3 miles an hour... that's a fairly typical walking speed (if you were consciously walking fast, it's 3.5 and if you were REALLY pushing it and panting, then 4...) But honestly it's not vital to get it right... the number of calories you burnt is determined by the distance, not the speed - if you walk 3 miles in 60 minutes, it's pretty much the same calorie burn as 3 miles in 45, it's just not so hard on your cardiovascular system.
on the biggest loser tips - they said one mile walked = about 100 calories burned. Thats is about how I figure.
I've also looked at this another way. If I fed myself on olive oil at 9 calories per gram, I'd get about 350 miles per gallon walking. Riding a bike I'd get over 600 mpg! Talk about high fuel efficiency transportation....
pgeorgian, walking 3 miles in 45 minutes is smokin'. Congrats.
Try using a pedometer. I use one everytime I go out walking, even if it's just shopping or walking to a friends. It then tells me how many steps I've taken, the distance and how many calories I've burned. Every step counts.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
