Walking Off the Weight 2

Quote  |  Reply
Hello all!

I credit my taking up walking, in conjuction with the awesome cc, with my weight loss success thus far this summer..... I know there are many others out there, walking away the pounds, the stress, the stuff in life that needs to be sweated out, so join us here! We had discussions in WOTW1 from where we liked to walk to how to improve the walking work out after it had gotten too easy, blisters and bras, to how to get the SO to come along with you, so if it's related to walking, it can go here! ( :

Just FYI, but I think I am offically a "wogger" now -- I almost can't say that word without laughing (credit Jess who found it). So let's say walkers, wanna be walkers who need encouragement, woggers, even joggers if they promise not to make fun! =P Hope to see allmy old friends here + and a lot of new ones too!

So---Rock on with your walkin', girls and boys!    --Olivia

Hey! I also used walking as my exercise of choice in my weight loss journey and using calorie count. I have lost 50 pounds! Now, I do more challenging cardio and strength training and I have lost more fat, but, my weight has maintained at 135 pounds.

I still love to walk. Sometimes, I walk about 2 miles to the gym and back. When my husband and I go out to a dinner and a movie, we walk it. We call this our little adventure because we like to walk on the backroads and through neighborhoods instead on the main road. We can hear each other better when we talk. Last night, we saw two coyotes running on the road. It's crazy to see that in the city! Somebody else told me that they have seen javelinas too.

Anyhoo... happy walking!

God Bless

PorkChop

Got in a 40 min walk pushjing my grandson in his stroller this evening, but followed it up with a small binge of cheese and crackers. Knew it was coming but was powerless to stop it!

OK, tomorrow is a new day.

Welcome Porkchop!  :o)
porkchop:  that's the cutest name!!!  When I reach one goal of 175 I'm altering my boring name to reflect the new me.  Oh I hope you walk really fast if you see javalinas.

It will be good to get back to my schedule.  But, I need to learn to stay focused with inerruptions in my normal routine, since life is full of interruptions.

Powerwalked 3 mi yesterday and can't wait to get out there today to get my mind uncluttered.  I find the same relief in powerwalking as I did in jogging.

Weight is up 3# after Labor Day.  Today hope to stay on track today.
My mood still sucks, but I did get up and walk this AM. And I've planned out the days food. Going back to choir tonight hoping that will boost my spirits.
It's a lovely fall day, breezy and sunny.  Beautiful walking weather.

Ohio: Don't feel alone, my scale is up a few lbs after Labor Day Weekend too, lol.

Kris: I'm a bit grumpy today myself!  Last night just before bed I ate 1/2 a carton of Mint Chocolate Chip Icecream!  :(  *Tears* Good thing it was "Light" and had "Half" the calories.  I can't believe I did that.  And I was having such a good day too.  But I'm back on track today.

I have printed off several sheets of low calorie snacks, and taped them to the fridge!  I am excited to give some of them a try.  :)

Happy Walking Ladies!  :)

Rachel
powerwalked 3 mi yesterday.  I do 3.9 mph for one mi, but slow down doing 3.  Lost one pesky holiday pound.  Still up 2#.

One snack I've been having is just egg whites from boiled eggs.  If you like eggs, I read they are only 17 cal.  I use a little Dijon mustard.

Getting hair cut and highlights today.  It gows so fast they always ask me what I eat, which I think is funny.  But that will keep me away from the fridge and food for 3 hrs today.  That's how I'm looking at things now.

Only 30 mins this AM, but long enough to get a lot of thinking processed! Wrote a Haiku...see it posted somewhere.

Looking forward to an evening with my girlfriend...salad dinner then to see Hairspray!

I decided to back down to 3 miles a day and work with my 5 lb weights and ball exercises.  Another gorgeous autumn day here!

Ohio: I'm down a lb too, hooray!  One more and I'll be 110 again.  Five more and I will officially be 105, which will take me out of the over-my-ideal-weight range!  I am soooooooo excited.  What a summer.  I spent the whole darn summer working on this. But it's going to be so worth it!  I had long layers cut into my hair last week, and I highlighted it too!  I also have bangs again.  I love it!

Kris: Do let us know what you think of " Hairspray." My niece wants to go to that movie.

Rachel
I went to the Dr today, and he gave the ok for me to lose 10 more lbs, but I'd like to go 15.  Will see how I feel and look when I lose 10 I guess.  I bought a new scale today.  Just a plain digital one, but I love it, as it gives ounces lost too.  :)  So now there are three scales in the house and my husband just came down the hallway and said " Do you think we have enough scales?"  Lol.  " But they all vary, I said, and I like my new  one best!"

Rachel
rachelrobin:  That was funny what your husband said about the scales.  I have long bangs and my flat iron is my best friend.  I was gone from home so long I just felt skinnier when I got home and got on the scale (again) and had lost 2 #, just by not continuous snacking, and that put me at my lowest, but I didn't log it as it would go up when I ate dinner.

Powerwalked 2 mi yesterday.  Refused, no matter what to skip that, even tho I was short on time.  Maybe I'll skip this snacking whenever I'm hungry altho I've lost 1.4 # a week average.  After losing yesterday by going longer without eating makes me want to try that.  And when I go back to work I won't be able to "graze" all day, so should give up the habit now.

Lost 1#, only 1 extra to go.
Got in 40 mins this AM and the man commented when I returned that he was feeling a bit quilty lying in bed while I was out doing something healthy!

So enjoyed my evening with GF yesterday! She put on a CD of Pavarotti and we toasted with a lovely white wine to his talent and how it will be missed. She made a lovely salad, calls me her "salad buddy" ...LOL!

Then off to see Hairspray. What a GAS!! You've just got to see John Travolta in drag, and as a 300 lb lady no less! Classic in theme, toughing on racism, sizism, age-izm, etc and the . And the music will make you want to get up and dance...which we actually did!

Hello Everybody!

New to this post and actually new to the cc plus site.  Struggle to exercise, but I want to start walking - EVERYDAY!  I have been a classic cc member since Jan. 07 and lost 20 pounds by May.  Have done a good job keeping it off but want to get back on track and start losing again!

ok people PLEASE tell me how you walk i have loads of problerms with this as it really confuses the hell outta me, i wanna know if strolling like walking normally how other people you just see in the streets or out when shopping and stuff for more than 30 mintutes consider good for exercise?  and when you walk do you have to get your heart rate up even though i know thats considered power walking which i dont do but i just walk normally if you know what i mean,im just confused and annoyed with this whole walking stuff as you can also see from my other posts about walking and so i just need help

misundastod, I can only speak for myself here. I started out slowy, and gradually gained speed and stamina. I don't always get my heart rate way up when I walk, but I don't "dawdle". I walk with purpose, as if needing to get somewhere on time!

Last week I drove around my "usual" route, noting the mileage. Then I came to my calculator to see just how many MPH I was doing, and was pleased to find I'd gone from a beginning rate of less thatn 3 MPH to 3.5 MPH in just 4 weeks!

I don't carry weights, but just this morning I grabbed 2 (8oz) water bottles, one for each hand, instead. Gotta start somewhere, I told myself.

Remember, whatever you're doing for physical activity is better than doing nothing!

Hi Walkers!

Another absolutely beautiful autumn day.  We had some major excitement here yesterday.  Three fires started in our countryside neighborhood, when a semi truck blew a tire.  We had helicopters on all sides dumping water.  Pretty intense for a while.  But they put the fires out!

I went shopping and filled up the fridge with more healthy foods.  Love my raw spinach and other leafy green vegetables too.  Purchased lots of frozen vegetables to steam, and fish too.  :)

My back had been giving me fits, and the Doctor wants to temporarily stop walking as my sacri ( need to look that big word up )  something or the other is inflamed and I've aggravated it from walking and some deep house cleaning I recently did.  I'm trying to get my fall deep cleaning done so I can start my baking by the end of October.  :)

By the way, has anyone heard from the gal who started this topic, (Olivia?)  Hope she is ok.  Take care everyone and have a great day.

Rachel
krismasself:  yes Pavarotti will be missed.  I'm told I met him in 8th grade, but was probably painting my fingernails and didn't pay attention.  Salads; I made Tabbouli this weekend and have a good corn salad recipe if you want it.

Misundastod:  as Krismasself said starting slowly is good.  I don't know anything about you, but in general, any activity is better than NONE.  You have to find your niche.  What you are happy and comfortable with and WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD.  That's what it's all about.  I like the gasping for breath, dripping sweat,  power walking, but thats me.  Partly cause I'm anxious to lost weight.  partly to make up for sitting in an office for years.  Sometimes, it's so beautiful out in the woods where I walk I go slower to enjoy the wildlife.  I take my Ipod and have songs with a fast beat, to keep me motivated.    One thing IMPORTANT, get some good comfortable shoes.  Having a buddy to walk with is nice.  Once you get 'hooked' you feel guilty if you miss a day.  Some ppl go by "time", (walk 1/2 hr or 1 hr) but I like to measure in a car beforehand and go by "distance"  and log it weekly (2 miles or 3 or 5 miles).

You can google 'power walking or fitness walking'  for hints.

Came back to post 2nd time today.............powerwalked 3 mi and weight is lowest ever 180.2............oh, I'm so anxious for 179.
rachel--Olivia is a teacher and is back in school all day.  Also, she is (I believe) still in the process of moving into a new home and hasn't has much opportunity to be on the boards.
Hi Walkers,

How is everyone's weekend going?  I have been going nuts, not being able to walk.  I couldn't take it anymore today, and so I walked a mile.  I'm using heat and ice both to relieve the discomfort.  Went to the grocery store this evening and bought ingredients for all the menu's I've been studying.  I am so excited to try some of these recipes.

I need to "change things up" as I keep reading and push forward if I am going to lose 10 lbs by the 1st of November.  I've also been reading how green tea has cancer fighting antioxidants.  Silly me, didn't know I could buy it decaffeinated, lol.  That's the only tea I'll drink.  I was surprised when I read the front of the box tonight and it said "Naturally Caffein Free."  I'm going to give it a whirl.  :) G'night all.

Rachel
I had a wonderful time camping with my friends this weekend, but I'm tired and achy, so I didn't walk this AM. Was feeling a bit guilty about that when a thought struck...I've always wanted to walk thru the park near my Monday evening meeting! So that's the plan I'm committing to!
