Does anyone have any suggestions for good, comfortable tennis shoes to walk in?  I've got Avias, but when I walked yesterday they just weren't that comfortable.

I've got a pair of Asics I love, they're designed just for over-pronators. You might want to check out a local athletic shoe store (I like Dick Pond's in the ChicagoLand area) and try on a few pair and talk to the often times knowledgeable staff (at the smaller places).

Good luck.
My personal favorites for walking are New Balance.  They come in a variety of widths, which is nice, and they're by far the best shoes for the money - I went through several other brands before realizing that you do get what you pay for.  :)

Look for shoes specificially designed for walking, and not cross-trainers or "running/walking."  I found that for serious fitness walking, you've gotta have a shoe designed solely for that.
Thanks for the info.  I've had a couple pairs of New Balance shoes in the past and they were soooo comfortable.  I may go that direction.

If you live in a larger city environment or close to one, check for walking/running stores or look for an online store.

Shoe selection goes far beyond the look and the size.  There are many important things to look at such as width, where your foot lands, your arch and how your foot leaves the ground, as well as weight.

There are a lot of good brands these days.

Hope you find a great shoe.
I saw a consumer report article that gave the New Balance the highest ranking for walking.  My podiatrist also recommended NB's.  If you are going to do running walking or other stuff then look into cross trainers but for walking go with NB
you can go to running shoe stores and they do an assesment of your foot, to see how you walk/run how your foot lands, your arch all kinds of stuff then they tell you which type of shoes are good for your type of feet.

How much do you want to spend??? I have a pair of Nike Shox Turbo, and a pair of New Balance walking shoes. . .the New Balance are good but my feet are very tender and I need more cushion. . . now the Nike Shox Turbo. . . I can walk for days and they still feel good!!! I would recommend the Nike Shox Turbo, if you go online - Nike.com you can design your own, with your intials and everything. . . o.k. so don't want to get that narcisistic. . .but you can design your own.
