Walmart is Thine Enemy!

Okay, I'm having a bad day...stress...want to emotional eat and on my mind is this ice cream cookie sandwich up at the gas station.  But I rebelled and decided to go over to Walmart for some healthy afternoon snacks and something to munch on...

Ree wanders into Walmart and is immediately bombarded with a row of Halloween cookies with colored frosting...yummy...she breaks out into the cookie monster song "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me!"

Okay, she passes quickly and heads for the fruit, can't find the bananas but opts for some grapes...good so far.  Then bananas are found and what have we here, NILLA WAFERS...yummy...

Bananas only in the basket and on to the tea aisle for some caffeine free herbal tea and there they are at an endcap...Twinkies...HELP!  She remembers back in grade school when all the other kids had Twinkies and her mom made her eat granola bars (what a great mom!)

While she's there, she needs to pick up laundry soap so she takes the tunnel vision approach and avoids looking anywhere but straight forward as she passes every food aisle to get to the laundry detergent aisle.

On the home stretch she's heading for the front and passes OH MY GOSH, the Sara Lee pumpkin cheesecake samples...gotta love that stuff, yummy X 100...luckily she's running short on time and passes by...

Only to walk right past the middle of the aisle Halloween candy display with NO WAY, the most awesome looking orange frosting on top cupcakes...RUN FOREST RUN!

That was close, she makes it out with only nutritious treats and laundry detergent...HAIL for THINE WILLPOWER!

I had to go to the grocery store last night for diapers.  And I had to walk past all the pastries and cakes!  I hate how they set that stuff out in the middle of everything, but I suppose that's how they get it sold.  My husband can never pass by the cookies without throwing a package of them into the cart.   Luckily, I went by myself last night. :) 

Walmart is not a good place to shop for food, period.

In town we have three grocery stores, one of them being a "Super Walmart". The Walmart has three types of flour, all of them white and 12 kinds of breaded chicken nuggets. All of their meat is shipped in packed with carbon monoxide and every piece of veg is past it's prime, everyday. Guess which store I buy food at?

I usually don't shop at Walmart for some of those reasons but I'm at work and that's what is here.  I shop at Meijer (it's a midwest type store similar to Walmart but much better choices and not as much marketing propaganda) and Kroger grocery store.  I can find organic and whole wheat stuff at both, plus my normal stuff.

Way to go. I probably wouldnt have made it. The other day i was craving some carrot cake ricecream. (it's like icecream but dairy free) I finally went and got some and ate the entire container right there in the parking lot with a plastic spoon! And I had a big chick o stick. I think the whole thing added up to just under a thousand calories.

Next time I'm faced with this situation I'm going to think about how strong you were!

I LOVE CHICK O STICKS!!!  My husband brings home the mini size ones.  I allow myself one per day.

Lauren-They are my favorite candy. I didn't even know they made the mini ones until the other day when I saw my sister had some. I need to look for those.

I buy grocery items at walmart, but do not appreciate their produce or meats.  they're too messed with and horribly under-rotated.  I may buy some bagged salads, but that's about it.

Wal-Mart in Edmonton doesn't sell vegetables or meat unless it is frozen.  I only buy canned goods and cleaners, toiletries etc there.  Thanks for the humorous look at your predicament!! And hooray for your awesome willpower!!  :)

I buy all my clothes at walmart.. and lots of other stuff. But was never impressed by their grocery department. and they should sell blinders, haha, candy everywhere!!

I miss Meijer and Krogers.  I used to live in Indiana and went to college there.  My mom, brother, and sister still live just north of Indianapolis.  I am going there on Dec. 1st to the 5th.  I will have to go shopping at Meijer while I am in town.  I didn't like grocery shopping at Meijer or Wal-mart but Meijer can have some cute deals on crafts and clothes.

i miss kroger so much. their "health nut" section is so wonderful i have dreams about it.  i moved to northern indiana, and we don't have any in my area. i've been here 8 months and still haven't found a grocer that can even come close to replacing it.

Well done on your Walmart Survival Guide!

WalMart is one of the few places where "stick to the outer aisles" is detrimental to your grocery cart.

Maybe we should don our CC shirts every time we have to hit one of those big box stores!

I dont think walmart is a good place to shop for food.  it is so easy to make the wrong choices even if you have the best of intentions.  it is set up to sabotage you, so dont even attempt a quick 'pick up'.  walk around the food/snack isles or if you have little or no will power, just avoid going in! good luck!
