wanna gain weight

I just got my account and it seems this is for weight loss. I was guided here through the about.com site about weight gain. Any others in this community whom's goal is to gain, not lose or maintain?

I haven't had much luck, ok..none at all, finding somewhere to support weight gain. Maybe I'll have to just make this work! Or if anyone knows a site?

and Hi :)

Hi, Damsel -- you can still make this site work for you to gain weight -- I'm sure they're are at least a few others (try the Maintaining forum) also trying to gain weight.

To gain weight you are still going to want to know how many calories you are taking in and how many you are burning -- so even the tools can come in handy (although you'd have to get past the "to lose weight" part).  The Fitness forum can also help you with an exercise program designed to increase your muscle and fitness level -- the exercise tab, also.

The foods section can help you maximise your calorie intake without having to resort to eating junk -- it can give you healthy choices for you to make.

So, anyway -- check out it out a little more -- maybe someone else DOES know about a site designed for weight gain

I think you could use this site to help you gain weight, too. Use the food log to keep track of what you're eating, then use the burn meter under "tools" to calculate your approximate calorie use in an average day.   Try to increase your calorie intake by adding healthy calorie-dense foods (like olive oil, or higher-calorie fruits and vegetables, or more complex carbs) until you start to see the gain you want.  Also, of course, strength-building exercises that build muscle will help you gain, so long as you keep up the calories to support that.

I thought so aswell. The food browser seems really helpful. I like alot of the features of this site. Guess I'll have to work around them. It's a little frustrating when everything is for weight loss today. I just did a lot of googling and may have found a site, but I'll stick around here too.

For others interested the site is http://www.gain-weight-muscle-fast.com/ but I haven't explored it much.

I'm here to gain weight.  I just joined.  I was thinking the same thing as far as everyone being on here for weight loss.  I am going to use the food logs as a way of planning my calorie intake.  I used the tools to calculate how many calories I need to intake per day in order to achieve my weight gain goal.  My goal is to gain 2 lbs per week over the course of the next six weeks.  We'll see what happens.
I think the overall goal of this place is to help people get and stay healthy, whatever that may entail.  Good luck on your goals!!  I guarantee you there are plenty of people here who will be completely supportive whether you're trying to gain or lose some weight :)
To fellow weight gainers:

Ensure Plus or Boost Plus shakes. 2 a day= 1.5 pds. + a week (355 cals). works like a charm!! When you're done gaining, just toss 'em!

Or... energy bars, but I haven't tired 'em...

I'm here to gain weight while getting in shape.

I've been trying to gain weight for a few years now. I've gotten myself up to 102, but am currently back at 98. I think that's just because I'm sick... but being 5'7" I've really tried to commit myself to crossing the 105 boundary at least by new year's.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! My doctor recommended this site to me, as a way to make sure that I really am eating enough.

My best advice would be eat snacks. I've noticed that a granola bar on my way to class or apples or a PBnJ sandwich make all the difference. If I dont have those, I lose weight. And although the diet shakes work, they're disgusting, and as soon as I stopped using them I lost weight.

Does anyone else have something that's worked for them?

I could use any advice you can give!

I tried ensure, and it was nasty. But maybe I'll retry in hopes that I'll get used to the taste.

I read this (from http://www.metabolism.com/lifestyles/2001-05- 22/):

Gaining weight for appearance's sake, or gaining both muscle and fat weight, should consist of a high-calorie diet in combination with regular exercise. Your nutrient needs depend on your own particular rate of metabolism, which may be very high at your age. You not only need calories but also protein, vitamins and minerals. The best way to get these nutrients is to choose a balanced, varied diet from among the different food groups. "Mark," says he is "eating like a pig," but is it mostly pizza, burgers, fries and soda? Other nutrients are necessary for you body to metabolize and build new cells. You need 6-11 servings of cereals and grains, 2-3 servings of protein foods, 2-3 servings from the dairy group, 2-4 fruits, and 3-5 servings of vegetables. A varied selection from these groups should be the basis of your diet to which you then add fats, oils and sugars to add calories. Some other suggestions for gaining weight are to be sure to eat a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with nutritious snacks between meals. Try to eat in a relaxed atmosphere instead of on the run, as this improves the way your body uses nutrients. Avoid drinking too much liquid with your meal so you don't fill up too quickly. Make exercise a regular part of your healthy routine, but not to the extent that you skip meals and burn a high amount of calories. The body's metabolic rate is not normally modified unless there is an existing disorder that requires medical treatment. It is something that varies from one person to another and affected by many factors, such as age, sex, and amount of lean body mass (muscle). The following are some strategies that can help in increasing body weight:

  1. Eat high-calorie foods. Avoid choosing low-fat, reduced-fat, or non-fat items. Choose a milk shake instead of nonfat milk, avocados instead of cucumbers. For health reasons, choose mostly vegetable fats (olive and vegetable oils, nuts) rather than animal fats (butter, cream).
  2. Eat at least three healthy meals every day. Skipping meals robs the body of needed calories as well as leaving the individual more prone to snacking on unhealthy foods.
  3. Eat more food at each meal. Choose bigger portions, add extra filling to sandwiches, and use bigger drinking glasses and bowls.
  4. Eat snacks between meals. Carry healthy snacks (granola bars, crackers, and pretzels) to eat on the run.
  5. Add sauces and gravies to food. Cheese sauces on cooked vegetables increase the calories and provide flavor.
  6. Drink plenty of juices and milk throughout the day. This is a simple way to add calories without feeling full. Adding powered milk or instant breakfast powder to milk contributes extra calories.
  7. Exercise to build muscle. Physical activity used in combination with a high-calorie diet keeps the extra calories from turning into body fat. The muscle formed ads weight in the parts of the body where the weight should be.

Hey guys - check out the new weoght gain forum.
I am just gaining weight so I can fit nicely into a pair of jeans. LOL. Yeah I know. It is stupid. Well also, summer is coming and there will be a need to wear shorts and skirts and I want my thighs to be bigger. Its too skinny. I am a 00L in jeans and THAT is a shame. I want to be at least a Size 1.

I just joined as well and I'm desperately wanting to gain! I'm 22years, 108 Ibs and 5"6. I have been trying since I was a teen to gain weight and I used to take those creatine shakes which I gained 10 pounds from but they were so gross I had to stop and then lost 5 pounds. I'm hoping this will work with taking in more calories but my doctor said I have a high metabolism so I don't know if it will work. Well here it goes! Has anybody had this high calorie intake work succesfully???

How do you gain weight while limiting your added sugar to less than 60 grams per day?
