I Want Chocolate! Help!

Quote  |  Reply
Yep, it's TTOM ... and I haven't craved (or even HAD) chocolate in a super long time.  But today, I REALLY REALLY want it.  Not a lot, just a taste would be awesome.

I don't keep any sweets at home anymore... instead I snack on fruits when I want something sweet.  And I'm also at work.  I know I CAN work it into my cals, but then my dinner would have to be something light, like a salad with chicken or something.

What should I do?  Should I give in and eat a Chips Ahoy (ppl always bring in sweets... they've been here for days, I've resisted so far) or what?  I don't know ... there's peices of dark chocolate for sale in the cafeteria ... small, Hersheys peices so it would be portion control and calculatable (is that a word?).

I just tried eating fruit (grapes) but it isn't helping!  Any suggestions are appreciated.  I don't want to give in because I don't eat things like this usually and try to avoid (since I get enough junk when I binge:( ), but then again I do...

Suggestions?  Help?  Advise?  Thanks in advance!

I recommend a small amount of dark chocolate.  The darkest you can stand - I like the 70% cocoa version, but find 85% cocoa too intense and not sweet enough.  I find I can eat two squares of a 100g bar, about 20g and that's enough.  Portion control definitely important!  Good luck!
i'd work in a small hershey's piece or 2. dark chocolate is great for full flavor & satisfying a craving. the chips ahoy are a waste - lots of cookie, very little chocolate. plus you can savor the hersheys & get lots of chocolate flavor for a relatively small calorie count.

good luck!
Here is a website about cravings, and what your body needs, so what you should eat: http://www.naturopathyworks.com/pages/craving s.php

I don't know if it really works, but you could try it.
As an unrepentant chocoholic, I say have the chocolate.  A small amount of dark chocolate will mean a lot less calories in the long run than trying to fend off the craving with a lot of fruit.

Besides, a day without chocolate is like, well, I'd rather not think about it....

Seriously, a small indulgence will not side track your progress, in fact, it may help it.  Feeling constantly deprived is a big reason why most diets fail.

Good luck!

Chocolate Vitamuffins. 100 calories. 50% of daily vitamins. High Fiber. Tastes like cake!
I'd have to say nothing beats the 100 calorie chocolate hostess cupcakes.  Three little bits of heaven if you ask me and easy to work into my calorie budget.
Thanks, guys.  I'm gonna try to hold out for a while until I can get to the store after work.

You're right, carrihound- the chips ahoy are a waste.  I considered them only because I don't want to have to BUY anything, and one isn't really too high in cals.  But don't taste that great (to me anyway) and really are just not worth it.

Thanks for the link, alifranroy.  I tried eating some grapes but it didn't help.  I don't have nuts or seeds here... or at home... though chocolate covered nuts sound pretty darn good too!  LOL

I'll look for dark, maybe 70% cacao when I leave here in a few hours.

edit: Ooh, and those vitamuffins!  I've heard so much about them... I wonder if my grocery store sells them.  Thanks for the reminder!  I'll look for those, too...  Choices, choices.  Haha :D

I know moderation is key, not deprivation... right!?  Thanks again everybody!
I am an admitted chocoholic... I don't feel bad about it... I have chocolate everyday in the power bars that I eat for a snack. I highly recomend them. They are made by Apex and my favorite flavor is chocolate cookie dough. They completely satisfy my chocolate fix and I don't feel guilty at all when I eat them. I buy them from 24 hour fitness. I don't know if you can get them at any stores, but I HIGHLY recomend them. I never even think about buying a candy bar any more because I am totally satisfied with these...

Raw cacao.

Don't fight the chocolate addiction.  Just feed it the best stuff ever.
get some diet swiss miss hot chocolate mix. that stuff is so good. i drank like 3 cups already. only 25 cals a cup. you could also mix it into some vanilla yogurt. if you have to eat chocolate don't waste it on a crappy chips ahoy. i'd rather have a kiss or some dark chocolate that i can savor and let melt on my tongue.
venix - What type of raw cacao do you recommend?  I'd love to get that... I am moving towards eating mostly raw foods... sometime in the near(ish) future I'm going to try going raw for a week or 2, and see how I like it and how well I can do it nutritionally.  There were several different things listed on the site... which one do you buy, if any?  Also, I'm wondering if it is available in stores anywhere.  We have a few health food stores here... also a number of Co-ops that are all-natural, organic, local, etc... do you think they would supply this?

Sorry for so many questions.  You have me intrigued! :)
