do you just want to cry

Quote  |  Reply

i feel like losing weight is so frustrating..i always seem to fall off track and over eat and even when i'm eating my set 1500 calories i just stress about the next day. i know the important thing is to figure out why i lose sight of my goal, instead of just going crazy over it. i'm suppose to spend tomorrow afternoon baking brownies with some friends as we study for an exam...i'm so dreading this, and i know it seems ridiculous but i wish theres some way i can get out of it.

ugh

sorry, i just needed to vent!

You may need to revise your calorie intake.  1500 is the bare minimum for a totally sedentary, pretty thin teen and, if you're overweight and even slightly active, you'll need more than that to get through the day.   If you eat too little in an effort to lose weight you'll end up obsessing about food and/or overeating..... it's just a survival mechanism and has nothing to do with you being 'crazy'.

If you are completely sedentary i.e. you roll out of bed onto the sofa and back again each day, nothing more... then make more effort to get exercise but increase your calorie intake accordingly.

Also... make sure the food you eat is good and nourishing.  1500 cals of poor food is unsatisfying and will leave you wanting more.  1500 cals of good quality food ... vegetables, wholegrains, lean meat, oils, eggs, dairy products, fruit.... is much more satisfying.

Baking brownies is a nice thing to do with friends and one small piece won't do anything to your weight eigher way...  Isolating yourself and avoiding food situations to control your weight is not a healthy thing to do.

I have battled weight my whole life and am finally winning! A couple things I have heard on the way:

"what is the only part of your body that cares what food tastes like? about an inch of your tongue" ----- This is not to say that healthy food tastes bad but we all know bad food tastes so good. So when you want something remember that your body doesnt need it, bad food does nothing for nourishment.

"there is no such thing as a a 'chest day' when you are losing weight" --- Basically my trainer said that if you take a whole day and eat crap it throws your insulin levels off, your hormones, metabolism etc... So is it worth it to you to have that a whole bunch of junk??? Just think you will spend another 3 days getting regulated again just to do the cheat again. this does not mean you cant have a small piece of a brownie but leave it at that and the rest of your day/week should be relatively healthy.

I guess whenn I first started things like this would have been hard to grasp and would have seemed impossible to do. But you cannot argue with results and losing 50 lbs in just over 4 months is a great result that keeps me motivated :)

I also totally agree with GI-Jane about calories I have never starved while on this new lifestyle. I eat 4 meals a day and only think of food as nourishment for my body, it is nothing else.

Everyone can do this you just have to want it bad enough :) Hence why I have only now been able to accomplish it in my mid twenties, and I have been trying since I was probably 14.

Keep at it you will get there!

every day :(

When I bake sweets with friends, my best defense is to chew some gum.  Of course, you can allow yourself a brownie.  Getting a little treat is important.  But chew gum while you bake.  I know I have a bad habit of going crazy on the batter.

Edit: However, I'm going to have to agree with the aformentioned posts.  It is important for you to increase calories.

It is really frustrating, that's for sure! I am new here, and I can say that I JUST WANNA CRY too but we shouldn't. (If possible - because I hear stress makes you gain weight, it's a vicious cycle! GRR!) Making brownies with friends, however, is a harmless activity!!! Even eating a brownie does NOT make enough impact on your body to make a difference. (although I have seen some brownies that we sell here the cheesecake swirl ones, and they are in HUGE portions that perhaps may) Reward yourself, but only if you can resist temptation for more! I know that I personally just try to avoid junk food altogether because I know I will want more if I eat it, even so it it perfectly fine to bake as it sounds like you are super stressed like me and I actually find it to be a nice calming activity... :) We are all here for you! I hope your exam goes well!

thanks i guys, it really helps to have the support! this week has been going much better, and havn't been freaking out about little things like brownies :)

Yay things are getting better!  I just started trying to lose weight monday....the first three days went super but, today was a cheat day.

I couldn't figure out how many calrories dinner was but, I asume it was probably what I needed to finish filling up my calories for the day as I tried to go for healthy options.  Then dessert came and I couldn't resist some cake....then I went to a study group and ate about 3 cookies, popcorn and 3 peices of chocolate despite being full on dinner...good job xD

It makes me want to smack myself but, hey it's just one day and I'll get back on track.  So just take it one day at a time I guess?  What motivates me is that I get the munchies at my desk so, I taped a picture of a cute bathing suit on my desk since my goal is to lose 20lbs by summer so I can go to the beach and wear a cute bathing.  Okay thats not why I want to lose weight but, it's definatly a perk :) keeps me motivated more than saying I want to be healthy since technically I'm at an okay BMI, just too close to the overweight side for my comfort.

Anyway sorry for talking so much about me.  Basic Point:

-Find things to motivate you

-Take it a day at a time, it's not so bad.  If you can't start at 1500 that's fine.  I wanted to start at 1200 but, I realized that maybe that's not enough for me.  So I'm moving it up as I see fit.

Like g.i.jane said, 1500 is not enough for you. You can't avoid all food/social situations as they will pop up in life all the time. Self discipline is something that comes with restraining yourself. If thats what it takes to lose weight and keep your eating under control, gatherings like these are a perfect oppurtunity to test your capabilities.  You control the food, don't let the food control YOU. Stop and think, how will I feel afterwards? Am I actually hungry or is this just a reaction to something? Will I be happy about this choice later?  YOU have the last word when it comes to EVERYTHING you put in your mouth. Mind over matter, Mind over matter,  Mind over matter. If you focus on your goal and you know what you want, you will be less likely to binge.

I went through the same thing when I first started losing weight and I know how frustrating and disheartening it can be.. but stick with it and stay focused and you can do it!

i once went on a sort of diet --

it didnt work.

then i tried exercising, like just basic running a mile everyday, walking when i got extremely tired, then ran again.  && ab work kind of things.

it worked.

so i suggest trying to eat more healthy foods, dont go all vegan on me, just eat healthier and exercise (:  theres  a reason why its encouraged, and that is because it works the best.

and good luck!  Wink
