I want to gain weight

Quote  |  Reply

Hello everyone, this is the first time I have asked for help in regards to my weight. I hope works out for the best, I understand that this is my battle, but would greatly appreciate some advice. I have been between 120 to 130 lbs for most of my adult life, I never knew to be any different, untill last semester. I have been very stressed about grades through college and also I dont know how to eat properly. I regular work out by riding horses and moving hay, etc. I currently weigh 112 lbs and am 5 ft 5 in.  My finacee and mother are really concerned about the sudden change and they ask me if I feel okay. This does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, more sad and lonely. As I dont have and eating disorder, its just the way I am, and I don't feel ill and I do have a lot of energy. Though I would like to get my weight up again, as I really did like to have boobs butt and nice arms as well

So here I am, trying all I can to get my weight up and look healthy again with my face more filled out and my body as well. I hope to meet some simliar individuals on here who have similar issues as I do.

Look forward to chatting.

Hello:

You are not alone.  I know exactly what you are going through.  I am 5'6 and 95lbs.  I do not have an eating disorder, I just slowly over the past year lost 10lbs.  By genetics I am naturally thin, however my friends are starting to notice I am getting thinner. So, now I am realizing I need to do something before I get sick.  I am always cold and I wear Xsmall clothes and size "0" pants.

I believe stress of my job and my twin sister moving away was the cause of the weight loss.  It will be a struggle to gain it back.  However, I hope by using the recipes on this website and everyone's support I will be able to gain back what I had lost.

I do not think I answered any questions, but I thought I would just reply and let you know you were not alone.

Take Care.

Hello Samknight,

I also feel the same way as you do.  I am 20 years old, 5'2", and weigh only 95lbs.  I don't have "any" boobs.  Wherever I go, people always say that I'm really skinny.  I have dropped from 110lbs so my face shape has changed drastically and I would also like to have a rounder face as well.

Eating a lot is hard, for me, so I am currently considering about trying out those protein powders in order to help gain more calories.

Well it is nice to meet you.  Maybe we could be weight gaining buddies. Smile

Please help me. I am so glad that I found this site.   I need the support of people that re dealing with the same thing I’m going through.  I’m 5 feet tall and weigh 85 lbs.  None of my clothes fit, and I am depressed all the time.  I just don’t have an appetite.  I feel like a freak.  You see I’m black and most black girl have butts and boobs I have nothing.  My 12 year old weighs more than me.  My highest weight was 105 and that was the day I gave birth.  I don’t know what to do or eat.  You name the drug I’ve taken it NOTHING works.  I was told n0t to exercise because it’ll only make me skinny.  Does anyone know any high calorie snack foods.  I cant drink ensure. iCry need someone to talk to the understands, because all my friends think I'm lucky.

Roberta

Hi all,

I am sorry I don't share your problem, but I understand it can be challanging!  None of you have mentioned seeing a physician.  I hope you all have strong relationships with a "primary care" or general physician.  If you do not, I highly recommend you do.  Having an MD who knows you can make an enormous difference in your health and wellness.

Best wishes, Joanne

Hey everybody, I'm in the same boat, I'm 5'10" and I weigh about 125 now, but I tend to waver from 125-115 without much change in diet/stress/activity.  In order to be healthy I need to be about 140, but 125 is pretty much my top weight generally once I hit this I seem to bounce back down, I'd consider it an accomplishment to not go back down at this point.

Years ago I ran 1-2 hours a day and swam 2 hours a day 5-6 days a week, now I don't exercise at all unless I'm walking to class and on a VERY rare occasion I might ride my bike less than a mile from my apt. to campus.  Nonetheless I don't gain weight and I have absolutely NO energy, and I dearly miss being able to run and swim like that, I just generally felt better not to mention it's ridiculous that I should drive to campus when I live within a mile... granted I live in Miami so it's not *that* ridiculous especially when some nights I don't leave campus until after 8pm, but on the days when I can ride my bike I should be.  Obviously though, this would require more energy and a guarantee that I will be gaining and not losing weight in the process. Easier said than done.

snack ideas:

lots of avocados, nuts, peanut butter, bananas, honey, dehydrated fruits, fruit juice, protein bars, odwalla smoothie drinks, potatoes, peas....all still very healthy but higher in calories than many things!! Hope this helps!! Also, try eating more cheeses and full fat dairy!

I'm in your same situation.  I just got depressed for a week for no real reason (but it could've been related to my period/PMS) and then got even more anxious at the sight of my new weight (97 lbs...10 lbs less than the 107 I'm usually... or was usually at - also I'm 5'5").  So now I'm trying desperately to gain weight and have increased my calorie intake to about 2700 calories a day - ish.  So far (it's only been two days) I just feel tired a lot.

But the thing is, I'm going to a gym.  What your friends told you before wasn't true.  You SHOULD see a nutritionist/dietrician (what I plan to do soon) and plan out some weight training.  If you just eat fats, your body will redistribute its fat and you'll lose muscle (in my search for help gaining weight, I've heard of underweight girls having the fat percentage of an obese person because they didn't know this).  Muscle is denser than fat and if you exercise, you'll have more energy than if you don't (probably why I feel so tired all the time).  But as long as you eat plenty of calories, you won't lose weight (something I'm absolutely paranoid of, probably a symptom of the opposite of anorexia).  For example, if you google Michael Phelps and his calorie intake, it's like 15,000 a day (not a typo!), and he's pretty damn healthy.

I'm also of a small frame and I know I can barely lift the bar (actually, I'll have to lift a baby bar at first - I can't even bench 45 lbs! lol), but I'm pretty sure I maintained my weight better when I had to take Weight Training.  So yea, as part of my plan to gain weight, lifting weights is definitely on my list.

As for snacks, I'm telling you eat as many peanuts and peanut butter as possible.  And the way to gain weight is really to eat something high in calories before you go to bed (my doctor recommended I drink Carnation Instant Breakfast before I go to bed) - peanuts and peanut butter are healthy and high in calories.  Eat some celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins (if you like them - i really can't stand dried fruit).  Eating pudding as a dessert is also pretty good for you.

i understand what ur going through..i to feel freakishly skinny. i am 21 5'5 and weigh roughly 105. in highschool the most i weighed was 97. when i gave birth to my daughter i gained a good bit and was extremely proud of myself. i was 159 when i gave birth. i come from a small family my mother only weighed 99 lbs when she had me. After my daughters birth i wanted to keep all the weight i had gained and i maintained a healthy weight of 140 and i was a size 9, had a killer body. I felt so much better and my self-esteem was incredible. I was married and worked in an office and had a steady schedule. last summer june 08 me and my hubbie split, i quit the office job to continue my education. With school and the divorce i became depressed, and lost like 25 lbs n less then a month, along with the weight loss i lost all my breast and my legs look like chicken legs. I hate the comments i get from people, like omg you are so skinny!!! Even though im still bigger than i was in highschool i would still like to weigh more than 105. I mean surely if i kept the baby weight for a year and half i could gain it back right? ??? my daughter will b 2 in march and i just lost the weight in august of 08. I eat a good bit and have tried vitamins and protein shakes. another factor in me losing the weight could have been i quit the depo-shot which makes some ppl gain weight. Any ideas on gaining weight????? thanks in advance

hi  same here i need to gain some much needed weight, cause i dropped from 108-101/2 in like two months i think which isn't healthy cause I'm 5ft4, but its kinda hard to maintain the mentally to gain cause i suffer from anxiety which leaves in a bad way almost every other week sometimes days of feeling sick. plus the being depressed doesn't help matters.

but good luck with gaining and maintaing a healthy weight...:)
