want to increase calories to maintain!
Hey everyone. I'm 15 yrs old 5'6" and 118 lbs but right now the scale says 122. I have been having 900-1100 calories a day since the beginning of this year and looked to see that my maintenance was actually 1700. So on saturday i had 1700 and felt guilty the next day and had 1000. I decided yesterday that i need to fix my metabolism cuz i dont wanna grow up with problems so i had 1700 yesterday as well. will i gain alot of weight with this sudden jump of calories? how much? i heard it was temporary?
??
plz help =[
I'm sorry, but if you are 15, and have been eating less than 1500 calories, you've been doing a lot of damage to your body. You need to start increasing now (probably to much more than 1700), and you should also post on the Health & Support forum, since those folks have more experience with this.
Remember that the tools on CC are not meant for people under 21.
The Maint. forum doesn't get much action, which is why nobody had replied to your question yet (although maybe wait longer than 30 minutes to bump your question).
thankyou
I'm concerned that you should talk to your parents and ask them to take you to a nutritionist. It doesn't sound like you have been nourishing your body properly and you don't want to end up with a slow metabolism because you have put yourself in starvation mode! BOTTOM LINE- at your age if you are active at all you should be eating around 2000 calories MINIMUM! Talk to your parents. Believe it or not, they were your age once too!
my parents have been worried but i told them what i was doing and they were hurt but in the end im getting support from my family members! i am just scared about the weight gain.. and how can i tell when my metabolism is fixed? right now i weigh 122 so is this water weight starting already? i was 118 in the morning.
go to the weight gain forum..I experienced the same thing as you. and yes, we're the same age. do you still have your period?
don't be afraid of weight gain..you'll gain a bit at first but in my case, they're hardly visible. and you'll feel a LOT better when you eat healthy!
i havnt gotten my period for a 2 months probably because i screwed up my system.. i weighed myself this morning to see that im still 118 =]
I read your post and I have the EXACT same problem. I'm 5'6" and weigh 118 (I'm 21 yrs old). I've been eating around 850 calories to maintain, but I want to increase my calories as well. I'm just worried about that initial weight gain as well as how long it will stay on...

the water weight won't stay on long, but you WILL gain permanent weight. you are forcing your body to be at 118 which is why you're able to maintain on 850 calories. you will stop gaining naturally when you're eating the appropriate amount and your body reaches the weight that it SHOULD BE. not much reassurance, but you won't gain a lot and it will be for the better.
just remember that what is important now is fixing our metabolisms..Do you wanna eat 850 calories for the rest of your life? I certainly dont so the sooner we start the better.
update* im 122 this morning =[ is this waterweight?

i definately did not have 14,000 over maintenance but since im revving my metabolism back up and increasing my usual calories then is it real weight? or will this weight come off in a week?..its been 3 days with no change =[ and should i lower my sodium? i remember having a lot of jack links jerkey which i consumed about 2000 sodium in the jerkey alone!
