I want to lose 60 lbs and so scared.
It is so frustrating I want to lose weight I want to exercise I want to walk on my treadmill I want to do pilates videos but I lack the motivation :(
I am getting married in summer 2009 and I want to lose more than 50 lbs, like I am currently 205 lbs and my goal weight is 145 lbs. I wish I knew some people who share same goal with me. Or new to this website like me. I don’t know where to start finding new friends.
I am so worried if I will end up with saggy skin after I lose 60 lbs? do you have any suggestions to help me with this concern?
How to get started? Every day I wake up and um I say to myself that I don’t feel like it today so I will start tomorrow now that is fall I don’t have any excuses I have 24 hours a day to workout but I don’t. I am so tired of myself.
I know I should have mini goals well I do have. I want to get below 200 lbs for start.
Hi I started at 215 and now I'm at 170 os 45lbs down. I've been at this weight for a few months now and I think that I would like to loose about 10 or 15 more. I did start to notice some loose skin on my thighs they went from 28in to 23.5 and the skin just is not as tight as it used to be, but I do not have any loose skin anywhere else. Take it slow and steady start by just doing 20 min of cardio then add 10min of weights. Make small goals and celebrate each one met. Always keep in mind that in order for the weight to stay off it has to be a lifestyle change. And always remember that YOU CAN DO IT, it is a decision that only you can make.
Just start! You'll never get anywhere if you sit there and think 'I'll do it tomorrow', or 'I don't feel like it'... your end goal is pretty overwhelming to contemplate from a standing start, but you just need to take baby steps to get there.
And no, you're not likely to have baggy skin from losing sixty pounds. Do NOT let something that might possibly be in the distant future from stopping you starting to eat right and exercise TODAY. If it gets to the point where you don't like the way you're looking you can always stop then, but if you've never got off the starting blocks you'll be 205lbs forever.
don't be scared... you can do it! i did. i was 218 last september & now i'm hanging around 135 - 140. i love my new body. it's awesome! it's hard to believe that i ever got that big now. :D
it's really not that hard.
I have seen first hand that anyone can do it and look fantastic. My boyfriend was over 300 pounds and is now 195. It took him about a year and of course he went back and forth. There were days when he would just go off saying he didn't even know why he was doing it anymore. I admired him so much. Kajikit is absolutely right to say to just start. If you just take it one day at a time and make sure to start it everyday you can certainly do it.
I've lost 60 pounds. I went from 280 and I'm now right around 220. I don't have any loose skin at all, I'm just still fat. :P Don't worry about the loose skin issue.
I am with everyone else - just get started! the very first step is the hardest but at least you're doing something!
My best suggestion would be to think of this as a lifestyle change NOT a diet.
Here are a few pointers that may help you transition onto a healthier lifestyle:
* Concentrate on modifying your eating habits for healthier ones.. this really makes a difference! some people quit bad foods 'cold turkey', while others wean themselves off slowly... do what feels right for you! give it some time and adjust accordingly...
* Set a reasonable daily calorie intake range that will allow you to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week max... If we limit ourselves to 1300 a day from the very beginning, we are likely to overeat because your body isn't used to it... then we get discouraged and we all know what follows! A reasonable range, for example of 1400 - 1600 cals a day, allows you the freedom to eat more if your body needs it. Very important - figure out how many calories you are burning with and without exercise and then deduct 300 - 500 cals from it in order to figure out your daily calorie intake. The 300 - 500 deficit I suggest should help you lose 1 lbs per week at least but you should find a deficit that works for you. I aim for 1450 calories a day but a good range for me is 1350 - 1550 a day. DO NOT, for any reason, go below 1200..
* Exercise! don't wait until you lose some weight before you start moving... every little bit helps... I dislike going to the gym (never cared for machines) but I found other ways of exercising that I really do enjoy.. swimming, walking, biking, strength training at home, jumping rope, yoga, pilates.. find something you like and get moving! you can try other activities and add on workouts that motivate you..
I hope this helps! best of luck to you..
GOAL #1: Lose 5 pounds by walking 20 to 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week
GOAL #2: Increase walking time or days of week to 6 to 7 or 30 to 45 minutes
GOAL #3: Wake up every morning and even if you feel like crap, smile at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you are wonderful and beautiful (It works for me as cheesy as it sounds!)
GOAL #4: Cut back on fatty-cuts of red meat and incorporate more lean, healthy fish into your diet or if you can, look out for grass-fed red meats which have 100 fewer calories per serving than their grain-fed counterparts
GOAL #5: Try and introduce a new vegetables into your diet each week... AKA: KALE this week, CAULIFLOWER next week...
GOAL #6: Reduce dairy consumption to perhaps only morning time (if you must have dairy at all) and make sure it is skim
GOAL #7: Eat only WHOLE GRAIN... grains that have 3 grams + fiber PER SERVING
GOAL #8: Cut out all trans fats (particially hydrogenated oils/fats) and high fructose corn syrup from lifestyle (bye bye fruit juice, cookies, cakes, etc)
GOAL #9: Try to strength train 2 times a week for 30 minutes each time... and when you can up your time to 45 to 60 minutes!
GOAL #10: Try and not think about this ALL THE TIME because if you do, you will go nuts! Think of it like you would brushing your teeth - you wouldn't not brush your teeth now would you?

Hi, I was 226 when I started my journey in losing this weight a year and 6 months ago. It was hard, but now I'm at 149, and it's been a battle- because I've been at this number for months. I'm 5 even, and I can't give up. I want to reach my first goal weight 140 before I shoot for the new goal weight I've giving myself, which is now 135. I know I can do this, and I am not going to give up once I reach it. SO don't be scared. This road that feels so long can be a good road to health. That's how I looked at it. It was time to stop giving excuses and time to lace up my shoes and hit the road walking. After I got off the first 30 pounds, I hit the road walking and got in my car the next day and went to the gym to workout.
DOn't be scared, just lace up your shoes and start going for a walk out doors. Let nature awaken your heart and spirit again, and enjoy the life you are missing right out your front door. Find a nice relaxing park and go walking. I love walking to the near by pond here, and that's the best stress free day. I walk out to the pond, and then I relax for a little while, and jog/walk back home. It gives me time to look at nature and look forward to what I'm working so hard for. A new smaller happier me.
I've been a member off and on for a while, but I'm going through some life changes (read, breakup), and thought now would be a good time to revamp my lifestyle.
I started a new goal three days ago - to go from 196 to 150. So far I've lost 1.1 lbs! When I reach this goal, I'll look at myself and decide if I want to go further (personally, I like having a bit of jiggle - just not what I've got right now!)
To improve my fitness, I bought a bellydancing DVD, and I use the WiiFit for yoga, balance games, etc. It's amazing what a workout that thing gives you.
I allow myself 1200 to 1500 calories per day, depending on how hungry I am. I blew it a bit today (snack day at work), but dinner so far has been straight raw veggies, so that helped a bit.
I find the biggest benefit of CC is that it makes you look at what is in the food you eat and the activities you do. I sit there and fill in the fields and go -Holy ****! 200 calories?! wont be eating that again.... Or Cool! Bellydancing burns 400 calories an hour! And I look damn sexy doing it!
I'm going to stop rambling now and say, Good Luck on your goal!

I am also getting married in summer of 2009. I started in May at 205 lbs. and I want to get to 145-150 by my wedding. I've lost about 20 lbs. so far and feel like I'm definitely on track to make my goal.
As far as saggy skin goes, I haven't had that problem yet. Your youth is on your side and losing weight slowly and steadily should give your body the time to adjust. This would be the LEAST of my worries.
For motivation it's easy - just take ONE day at a time. When I first started I gave myself one "cheat" meal a week to help me stay on track. When I was really craving a cheeseburger/pizza/whatever I would just tell myself that I COULD have it -- Friday (my cheat day). Don't deprive yourself, just watch portions and plan ahead if you want to have a treat.
Working out came in the equation later. I started with my eating goal and once I had tackled that and the weight was coming off, it was easier to be motivated to work out. You CAN do this and it DOES work so give it a good honest try and take each day at a time. There are plenty of people here to motivate you and help you through tricky times. Good luck!
As far as the skin goes- you probably won't have an issue but even if you do have some loose skin wouldn't you rather have loose skin and be 50 lbs thinner than have nice tight skin and feel heavier than you'd like on your wedding day?
Hi usahana!
I started at 200 lbs, and am trying to get down to 150. I've lost about 5 pounds so far. My first mini-goal is 180 lbs. I'm also getting married in a couple years (no set date yet) and I want to be thin not only for my wedding but for the rest of my new life.
I'm going to add you to my buddy list ![]()
The longest journey starts with a single step.....
If you sit and think about the whole task ahead... the 60lbs, the wedding, the exercise, the calories, the skin, the everything.... aaargh!!!.... it'll be overwhelming and you'll just be frozen with fear. But if you think of one thing you can do tomorrow and for ever to make things better.... e.g. eat 5 portion of fruit and vegetables.... and you do that and forget about all the other things, you'll make a much bigger difference than you think.
And the other thing to tell you is that, if you play your cards right, this can be a lot of fun. Since embarking on my weight-control journey nearly four years ago I've learned to cook amazing, healthy foods, I've discovered activities I love doing and made new friends in the process, I've even developed a fondness for fashion along the way. So don't dread it.... dip in a toe and get started. You'll never regret making that 'single step'.
GOOD LUCK!
Hi! I am really really happy to read all of this kind and helpful responses. Thank you all very much. I am reading all of these and wanted to say thanks and I am so happy I joind CC+ with so many great members here.
Hi usahana, I just joined CC+ 10 days ago and indeed it is great to have the support of so many people that have the same goal, be healthy! I am 210lb at the moment but I have lost 45 lb since May. I am still half way there but I am so much healthier and happier. So don't focus too much on your final goal, take it in steps, it creates less anxiety. And want it, really want it to embark in this new healthy lifestyle not diet like v-avila said.
I realized I really wanted it when my husband started saying we should go for a cruise to celebrate our 20 year anniversary in Jan 2009. Cruise? Swinsuit? Noooo. And I wanted to feel prettier not only for him but also for myself. And I started right then, no waiting for Monday, or after that big party or new year's eve, or the planets to realign. I just started. My goal was losing 0.5-1 lb a week. And it is important not to try to lose all at once in crash diets, so bad for you. It is a lifestyle change involving food choices, exercise and emotional balance. I don't know if we are going for the cruise in this mad economy but I don't care, whatever we do I will be so happy to have changed my lifestyle.
To avoid possibility of sagging, lose about 1% of your weight a week, it gives your skin time to shrink. Apply a firming moisturizer daily after the shower to help elasticity of the skin. Exercise! I started walking and doing some aerobics using DVD at home. But after 2 months I realized that I needed strength training to help lose fat and muscle toning. I joined a Planet Fitness that opened recently near my place and it is only $10 a month! So it was a no brainer.
Just after I joined CC+ that I started counting calories and noticed that I ususally eat about 1500-1600 calories a day, with weekends sometimes going to 1800. Some weeks I did not lose anything, very frustating, but hang in there, it is a lifestyle change remember, losing weight is not the only goal, though soooo desired! So plateaus will happen, but they are surpassed with persistence. No food after dinner (8-9pm). So you have time to burn the calories through the night. Dinner is my last meal of the day, I used to eat mostly at night after dinner, all the late night cravings, mostly emotional. I drink ice water and munch on ice cubs when I feel hungry at night. It was hard in the first couple of weeks but then the body gets used to it. Stop eating before you are full. Eat every 2-3hs to keep your metabolism going. Don't starve for hours or your metabolism will slow down.
Cravings, mostly emotionally triggered by stress, will happen. I read that you should not act on them immediately. They happen in waves and if you wait it may go away. In the mean time do activities that relax you like walking, gardening, listening to music, all may help release the anxiety.
Usahana, if you need more support along the way I will be here on the same boat with you. Take it in steps, start now and keep wanting it. You can do it!
