I would like to lose 10-15 lbs by July 4th holiday. I weigh about 160 now (down from 178 in Oct '08) - had recently gained back 8 lbs that I had lost earlier and would really like to re-lose that plus more before I go on vacation. I know its a shallow reason to lose weight but would be a great way to make sure i don't regain everything and feel horrible. I'm thinking 1,000 cals a day for 5 days a week, 1300 on Sat/Sun with 25-30 min jog on treadmill 4x a week plus 20 min of resistance exercise 3x week. Post-July 4th it would be 1300 cals a day all week, with same amount of exercise.  Any one else have any game-plans they'd like to share?

I think you'll find if you keep your calorie intake at around 1,200 a day and increase your calorie output you'll lose weight faster than eating only 1,000 cals a day.  I stuck to 1,000 cal a day diet for a long time and didn't lose any body fat.  If you eat 1,200 cals a day, every day, and work out at least 30 mins a day you'll lose weight a lot faster and you won't gain it back as easily!

yeah i used to do that to maintain my weight and it worked great...now i have problems cuz i'm so busy with school i don't have time to work out anymore and if i eat any more than 1,200 i won't lose any fat at all

I would like to lose 15 lbs by July fourth too! I need help though.

I would like to lose 20 pounds in the next few months. That's the average that has worked for me so far - 10 pounds a month or so.

I just started using this web site last week. I ate between 1,100 and 1,500 calories every day for 7 days and exercised 5 days (pretty hard) and i didn't lose a pound! i thought i would at least lose 1 pound! so i got discouraged and haven't been doing well this week. I know i must sound really impatient... I don't see how I will meet my goal of losing 12 pounds by the end of June.. Did any of you have a few weeks in the beginning where you didn't lose any weight even when meeting your calorie goals? i don't know if i am doing something wrong or if it just takes longer to start losing...

I'm trying to lose 30 by the end of August/start of September so this matches up well with my goal.   I have a mini goal that requires losing fifteen (i have little rewards once i hit certain weights) in no longer than two months.

I just signed up for a cruise that leaves July 26. Target loss before then 15. So count me in for motivation n support. :)

I joined the gym this morning and have an appt with a personal trainer tomorrow. I need all the motivation i can get!!

i want to lose 15lbs before my birthday and july 4th weekend, so count me in!

if anyone has any fresh ideas for meals on the go, please let me know! i'm so busy and travel alot throughout the day and have gained some weight since changing jobs!

I become a godmother in July and I'd really like to be 15lbs lighter so that I'd look nice in a dress so you can count me in.

I've cut out meat (for now) as I used to eat too many fatty meats, I've also cut down on my drinking (stupid uni and all of its cheap drinks!) All I have to do now is start saying 'no thanks' when my boyfriends mum buys a takeaway (which is at least once a week seriously).

1,200 calories a day is the way to go.

Count me in!  I want to lose about 15 pounds by mid-August.  I could deal with losing only 10, but I want to lose 15!  I am going back to the US for my cousin's wedding and my own wedding dress fitting and I want to look good!

Why don't we all give our stats?

Age: 23

Height: 5'10"

SW: 165

CW: 154

GW: 145/140

I am trying to eat at least 1400 calories a day and then more like 1600 calories a day when I work out!  My workout includes walking, cycling or tae bo at least 4 times a week.

Count me in! I want to lose 20 lbs in the next 2 months. Currently 145lbs, female, 5'3, age 27.

I'm eating 695 calories on days I don't work out and 1095 on days where I do my 1 hour hike (which burns 400 calories) will let you know how it goes...two days in so far so good

jjcakes, you are not eating enough.  You will lose weight in the beginning, but you will hit a wall because you are in starvation mode.  In fact, you will likely regain all of the weight you lost when you start eating normally again.

Try checking out the information at this website: http://www.phord.com/cc/

It will tell you exactly how much you need to be eating in order to just make your body function (your basal metabolic rate, which is the energy you need to breath, make your heart pump, etc).

Good luck!

good luck everyone.  1200 calories is an ideal number, but it all depends on your height and your  lean body mass.  I am currently working out with a trainer and he helped me calculate a calorie range to stay within to loose weight (mine is 1050- 1250 since i am 5' 1" and because of my lean body mass).  if i eat too little or more than i cant expect to loose weight.  for those of you who are discouraged after a week or so DONT BE!!!   i've been working out with my trainer for 6 weeks now and i have only lost 3 lbs.  however, i have lost 7% body fat and from the pinch test on my back, arms, stomach, all of the fat has been decreased by half in those areas.  so just because the scale doesnt say you are losing weight doesnt mean you are not slimmer.  i basically lost 10lbs of fat with my trainer and gained 7 in muscle so keep at it!!!!  once your body gets used to your diet and exercise you will see results.  and dont just watch calories.... be sure you eat a balanced diet of 40% protien, 30% fat and 30% carbs.  GOOD Fats like whats in olive oil, almonds, avocado, salmon etc....  your muscles and joints need fat and protein to recover.  try and drink a protein shake right after you work out and 1-2 hours after that a protein meal.  trust me you will feel and see a difference in your muscles and your shape!

I just yesterday calculated the loss trend I have been going on since I really started counting a few months ago and I lost 10 lbs in the first month than 3lbs and than 2.

EH! How frustrating, but I know I really changed and altered things from month to month. So, to say the least I need the motivation too.

I want to lose 20 lbs in 2 months and I know I can do it. I almost want to make sure it's a realistic choice, cause I have been trying to incorporate strength training in as well but I know the biggest thing to keep in mind when dieting, conscientiously eating is mind over matter.

Count me in!

Count me in!

I want to lose a total of 20-25lbs.  Having a goal of losing 15 in 2 months will help me to reach my overall goal.

Good luck everyone.

i want to lose about twenty pounds in 2 months.

can i do it by jogging/walking for half an hour then walking a mile five times a week?
