ok so here is the deal... i weight almost 300 pounds and want to weigh like 220-230. this site is telling me it will take me to like october or november or something like that... but heres the thing i see on the biggest loser ppl loseing like 10-12 pounds a week... i am very strong willed and have completly went cold turkey from everything that is not healthy i only drink water and sometimes orange juice and i really only eat fruits vegitables, salads, stuff like that i walk for 2-4 hours a night and do situps for about 30 mins before sleep... is it realistic to think i could reach my goal within 2-4 months?!?!? if it is at all possible i can do this everyday until it happens i really think i could lose it fast. ill even take fat burners and like exercise all day after work(bsides weekends) if needed. i am an instant gratifaction kind of guy but i am very determined.. can i lose this in a much faster time frame?

Please slow down - for your health.  On the Biggest Loser they are doctor supervised, have no distractions, no jobs, no household obligations, and no personal time for other matters.  Please be safe and try to lose 1-2% of your weight per week.  You will lose more at first and it will slow down.  When I started to lose weight, I was angry that I was only losing a couple of pounds a week, at most.  After many tears and feelings of wanting to throw in the towel, it finally occurred to me that I didn't gain the weight so quickly.  I told myself that I could do anything for a year (which seemed like forever) and no, I didn't meet my goal during that year, but I did lose over 30 pounds and didn't gain any back, now I'm at it again and I've set a goal for 25 pounds this time.  I still won't be at a healthy weight, but I think slower loss is healthier for my mind, body, skin, and sanity.

Please don't try to meet the same goals as the contestants on TBL.  You will not be successful without the same degree of support, supervision, and butt-kicking.

remember, slow and steady wins the race :) you want to keep the weight off for the rest of your life right? you're STILL gonna have to work hard at maintenance right? so why are you in such a rush to get there? weight loss is a process, not an event. take it easy, you'll get there.

As far as I can tell, there's a reason why we don't see much of past winners from TBL - it makes great tv, but it isn't a long term strategy for healthy weight loss.

Best thing I can say about Biggest Loser is they've got them in the gym 6+ hours a day and on a pretty restricted caloric intake.  I know there were other posts on here about the program they're on with the show.  So it's not exactly realistic. and I totally agree with ericsmom.

With the "fast weight loss" pills, powders and these crazy "diet" plans... save your money. Seriously.  If you've got the extra and are working out then you can afford to add in protein shakes which are far more helpful then gimmicks.

70-80 lbs in 2-4 months really isn't safe.  Losing 2# a week would technically put you at 40 weeks to lose 80 lbs.  When you make the initial switch off sodas and junk, yes, weight can come off faster... and also when you start doing exercise.  Some people see more loss...others don't... but taking those steps helps get you to the spot you want to be.

I know it's not easy but try to remember it didn't happen over night so you're not going to get the extra off over night either.  It's hard, you get frustrated and angry.  I do it all the time.  Just have to stay on track and keep going.

There is a way to guarantee that kind of weight loss in less time:  Chop off your leg. You'll hit your weight goal very quickly!  However, I doubt you'd be happy with the results.

You didn't get to 300 lbs in 3 months, it's not realistic to think you can get out of it in that time either.  If you want to lose it and keep it off, you need to change the things in your life that allowed you to get to 300: your relationship with food and with exercise.  And you need to change those attitudes in a way that doesn't merely make you drop pounds.  You need to change it in a way that means you can continue the thinner lifestyle FOREVER.  The way you are thinking right now is setting yourself up to be OVER 300 pounds a year from now, after you've lost your 80 pounds and gained back more.

Weight loss has a higher recidivism rate than drug users.  98% of people who lose weight will gain it all back, and more.  If you want to beat those odds, you have to make changes you can continue for your life, not just for a few months.

Take it from someone who has kept of 80 pounds for 8 years.  By the way, I lost it at an average of 12 pounds per month.

ok but i can use strict exercise and im not really worried about overall health...this problem has escalated for me, for a while... if need be i will just not eat.period. this will happen weather it be 2 months or 4 months this will b done fast.

You might not be worried about overall health, but we are. We cannot support unhealthy weight loss.

Undereating can be just as detriminental to your weight loss than overeating. You will only make this harder for yourself if you starve yourself.

i dont want to sound rude, but how many other crash diets have you failed at before?   I started out at 250 lbs and I failed at every crash diet i ever tried and then just ended up gaining more.   In order to manage extreme obesity like both you and i have experienced, it has to be a slow, steady, LEARNING process.   Learning is probably the most important thing for people like us, not losing 80 lbs in 2 months.   Its important to learn how to succeed in a way that is sustainable.   I really hope you dont do a crash diet.   Any success will probably be shortlived just because you havent had time or practice living like a normal healthy person.

Wow!  Not to be harsh, but it sounds like you need an attitude adjustment before you start losing the weight.  The people here are trying to answer your concerns and help you.  Not eating "period" is not the way to go, and frankly, if you're not worried about your health, you might as well just stay obese.

Shallowbane, you sound like me.....so I can honestly say that you are setting yourself up for failure with such unrealistic goals......it is extremely hard to change one's lifestyle, it's mentally, emotionally, and physically draining.  There's a reason you got to almost 300 pounds and those are the reasons that need to be dealt with.  I've been dieting all my life, lost weight, gained it all back and more......many times.  I started at 340 and the first 30 pounds I lost in 2 months by starving......then hit a major plateau and couldn't lose weight for almost a year.......the next 40 pounds I lost in 3 months by starving even more and exercising hard for over an hour/day, everyday.  I totally wrecked my health and I hit another major plateau and couldn't lose weight for another year and a half....so 70 pounds down in like 4 years and this time I'm going to be smart about it.  Eat healthy and count calories, regular exercise, and I'll be happy to lose 2 pounds per week, I just want the scale to go down!!!!  It's great to have long term goals, but set realistic short term goals and you will be much more successful at losing weight, and keeping it off.  Losing even 10 pounds in a month is extremely difficult...think about it, you need a 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1 pound...for 2 pounds/week that's a 1000 calorie deficit....very difficult.

you take me the wrong way... A...the end justifys the means. i have been used to physically demanding labor since i was very young...and excersie i could do for hours given the right mood, mayb your right about not eating...but i am not the average weak willed fool who cries and breaks their own rules. i dont see how working out for hours and eating ONLY healthy things and drinking ONLY water is so damaging to me..ive lost weight fast before...than i got a girlfriend and we never did anything but lounge around and now that shes gone (3 years later) i need to get my old self back....and im actually not at 300 i rounded up cuz i didnt weight myself im at 275-so i figure 45-50 pounds cant take too long by completly COMPLETLY overhauling both body and mind into strict exercises constant sweating and little food intake..i can do it..

Okay... Diets dont work because the conotation that is put on them is that you eat like "this" for a specific amount of time and get to look like "that" then you enevitably go back to eating what you did before... Lifestyle changes work (this is NOT a fancy word for diet)... they work because you are making a life long committment to your health... you are changing your eating exercising and life for the long term (forever) and not just until you look like "that" I have tried diets ... then i have binged my way back up dieted again binged up and this is not only frustrating its not healthy for your weight to fluctuate in this manner... I made a committment to eat more healthy quite a while back... I removed the unhealthy foods from my home and replaced them with heathy alternatives (THIS DOESNT MEAN I DONT HAVE SLIP UPS)... I just recently began to add exercise to my routine as well... it has been a slow process but overall I know that not only am i losing weight i am doing it in a healthy way. Not eating at all is not the answer... you will enevitably end up in the fridge, pantry, or drive thru binging... you will become frustrated with your inability to stick to "your diet" and vow to stop eating (again) ... then find yourself binging (again)... its a vicious cycle and you will end up gaining more weight even if you lose a few pounds in the begining... Use CC to its full potential I know it and the people here have supported me and given me some great tools to continue on my own journey, and i have not been a member for that long!

Good luck to you, and best heath wishes!

or.... i can join the army fail basic 3 times due to my weight and do it that way....both solid plans...

Quite simply, we cannot convince you not to hurt yourself. But we are not going to help you do it.

We don't doubt your motivation, simply that this is not the way to achieve your goal.

Why are you asking for advice if you don't want it?

there has to be someone whose not a complete puss in here...someone who can answer hey: IF U EXERCISE ALOOOOOOOOT....and eat a little can you lose your weight faster. and i cannot possibly fathom the idea of loseing weight just to gain it back...if you know how bad it is on the other side why the hell would u pick up any substance that would get u back to it...

Sure... don't eat... overtrain and watch what happens.   Since looking at the model set by Biggest Loser seems to hold a lot more then what people here are saying... how much did Tara lose last week? 0 Lbs.  How much did she lose this week? 2lbs wasn't it?  What did Jillian say.... she was overtraining and it wasn't going to work.

Fad Diets do NOT work...repeat 20 times over... Fad Diets do NOT work.

Yes you might drop a few pounds, but go back to normal healthy eating and what happens? It comes back and then some.

If you starve yourself like you just mentioned (hopefully in a joking manner) be warned what happens when you starve.  Sure the first days might be hard with that rumble in the tummy but as it fades because of atrophy in the stomach muscle you'll start to lose the ability to really sense thirst which does lead to dehydration.  Also, you'll be breaking down BOTH fat and muscle so sure you might drop weight and not care about health but is losing muscle what you Really want to do also?

So you'll starve, have to re-feed and then have to work on getting in shape.  Talk about a longer process then just working on the weight loss in a more controlled manner.

Please reconsider.  It's a dangerous slippery slope you are looking at.

dude, you are 300 lbs.  i dont exactly think your an expert on weight.  however, some people here, like amethystgirl for one, have had weight loss success are are very very knowledgable on the subject.  either listen to them or dont, but dont be a jerk because no one wants to support your stupid plan.

so you want to COMPLETELY overhaul your mind and body in a short time?????....it takes a life time do accomplish that......perhaps you need some professional therapy....seems you are not accepting reality, and the reality is weight loss takes lots of time, patience, and consistency......a lifetime of it, not just a few months......

How can you NOT fathom the idea of losing weight just to gain it back? You've done it!
