Want to make icing with regular white sugar
I don't have confectioner's sugar, and I want to make icing that actually shows up on a cookie. Does anybody have any recipes/ideas (that also don't involve egg whites) on making icing with regular sugar?
The reason confectioners sugar is used in icing is because it's so fine it creates a very smooth texture, if you used regular sugar the icing might come out grainy. If you have a food processor I would take your sugar for a spin in there for a few minutes to reduce the coarseness of the sugar.
As for what kind of icing to do, that would depend on what kind of cookie your making.
I know that my mother in law uses regular in this chocolate icing that she makes and its not grainy. Its a chocolate butter icing and the trick is to add the sugar slowly and to beat the icing for along time. You cant beat it too much, so when I make it I keep testing it so that I know when its no longer grainy.
I cant seem to find the recipe right now, but I will keep looking for it, and hopefully I will be back!
You can cook sugar and water a little butter. Bring to a boil and reduce it to a syrup, then beat it adding some food coloring. You have to ice the cookies warm. Mostly you have to spoon it on or dip them.
Look for a recipe for boiled icing.
