i want a makeover and i need your ideas! :)
I'm bored with everything about myself from my hair to the way I do my make up and my clothes, so I'm going for a whole style overhaul which is something I did a couple of years ago and a few years before that. I just need some inspiration! SO! I'd like you to get talking about who/what influences your style?
Also I need some websites that I can look at for ideas of hair styles and clothes and stuff. I'm a pretty avid follower of fashion so I know what's on the catwalk and in all the magazines and stuff but I don't wanna look like that myself - really want something a little quirkier.
Mostly need hair ideas though. :)
what is your natural hair color, length, and texture? And what do you have right now? Skin tone? eye color? current style? Please give details as to everything current that you'd like to change.
haha good idea i didn't even think of that! i'll upload some pics after iv posted this.
my hair is naturally a sort of copper colour, but i died it brown so it's kind of in between light brown and ginger at the moment as it is fading. it is thin but EXTREMELY ringletty, short and layered at the moment and parted at the side.
i've got reeeally really pale skin, a few freckles, brown eyes. my current style.. casually i usually wear either skinny jeans /denim minis and shirts or tees, quite boring! but ive got tons of random dresses and stuff im always wearing, i usually bring things in at the waist with a chunky belt because i like to hide my lower belly.. i always wear tons of silver accessories, bracelets rings and necklaces just piled up, and scarfs or pashminas, granny cardis.. i tend to just chuck loads on to make myself look a bit interesting . sorry im not defining myself very well, but it's hard to haha :)
but im up for changing absolutely everything!! :D
I'll be honest, now: your style sounds a lot like mine, and I love my style! Lol. So, I'm probably going to suck at giving suggestions as I think you ought to keep it - from your pictures (curly haired girls, squeeeee) it really suits you :]
Perhaps just play around with things you would never usually wear? Go out with a few friends and take most of a day out trying stuff on, seeing how it looks on you, playing around with unusual colours and patterns. I would do that sort of thing ALL the time pre-ED before my self-esteem in my appearance plummeted - it's one of the reasons I want my old body back so badly! Heh. :]
Hair-wise, the blonde in your picture suited you a little, but was a bit light for your complexion. Perhaps a dirtier blonde? And for make-up, lol, I suck there. I'm either in extreme stage make-up for acting or I wear a line of eyeliner if anything else, but that's about it.
Either way, I reckon whatever you go with will be awesome :D You're very pretty, by the way!
I think you should go with a warm blonde shade..since you say your hair is "coppery" do some strawberry blonde highlights..crop up the cut a bit more in the back and blow it straight ...ask for some more choppy layers and you will have a fun and funky style you can wear straight or embracing those ringlets as well! Post some after pics so we can see what you decided to do!
If your hair is thin, be careful going blonde, even if you're just talking about highlights. Make sure you get someone to do it who really knows what they are doing. And even then, bleaching can murder fine hair, especially if you bleach it many times over the year. (OK, well, hair is already dead, but you get what I'm saying.
)
If you want to go lighter, try a shorter cut. That way, you'll be cutting a lot of the older bleached hair off before you bleach again.
ETA: Ah, it looks like you are pretty blonde, or have been before. So you know how to deal with that. I agree with the poster who suggested you might want to go a little darker, though, to better complement your skin tone.
lalabanana - aww thanks!! yeah i'm thinking i might keep a similar dress style because i haven't really got the funds to buy a new wardrobe.. but perhaps a few key pieces are needed. you're from the UK too right? where abouts do you like to shop? do any celebs/people influence or inspire you at all? (i understand all this stuff kind of gets shoved to the back of your brain during ED :( good luck in your recovery, i hope it's going amazingly well - you seem super strong to me!)
personaltraining - i really like the strawberry blonde idea. i think it would take it closer to my natural colour which i kind of want back! and i will post some after pics, but it might not be for a month or so :)
petite_powerhouse - yeah i was abusing my hair so much when i was a blondie haha. i used to straighten it every day at that time to, and eventually it all just turned to hay, it's taken me a couple of years to get it back to actual hair! my hair was thicker then though :( it all fell out when i was underweight/undereating (stupid me). but yeah i don't think i'd go that blonde again, probably a little more strawberry like personaltraining suggested.
ok i'm thinking.. (i hope i'm not breaking any rules by posting these links?) maybe either this colour
or this colour
i think my natural tone is somewhere between the two. i'm gonna show those pictures to my mum (she is a hairdresser) and have a long think! :)
Go for the hair in pic # 1..if your mum's a hairdresser she will know just how to get it without damaging your hair too much more. I am also a hairdresser..and there are so many options now with color. She also has access to many products to re-construct your hair...I am not too sure of products in the Uk to make recommendations but I am sure she knows just what would be good. Also a good multi-vitamin and keratin. Hope it turns out great and don't forget to post those after shots!
Ah, thankyou :] High-street, I like H&M and New Look, and Zara and Topshop if the sales are on haha. I also like to shop in charity shops because you can find unique and awesome stuff there o: I have a collection of scarves I've scooped up from charity shops! xD I don't get inspiration from celebrities so much as I like certain eras - namely Victorian fashions (I am a sucker for Steampunk, too, if only I could pull it off LOL), the 50's and 60's, heheh. Otherwise, I go for what I think looks good on me and my shape in general and what colours go together. And by rule of thumb I never put two different patterns together (stripes and stripes yes, stripes and spots noooo and so on), haha >>
EDIT: Oh! And having just spotted the two different hair colours, I say no. 1 as well. Lucky you for having a hairdresser for a mum! Hair products, mm. Repair-wise, I love Aussie hair products, they're really good (and smell nice!). For retaining colour, though, Tresemme works really well for me.
As another person with fine hair who has gone the lighter route many times, I'd say give your hair a break and go darker: picture #2. No matter what products you use to try to counteract the damage lightening does, it is still hard for fine hair to look healthy and feel good when it is put through the wringer chemically.
Plus, your skin is light, so it will probably keep you from being washed out, too. I am fair-skinned myself and find darker looks better.
That being said, though, both colors are very pretty.
I'd say hair color #1 (dirty blond) or go darker brown. For cut, try a short choppy due!!!
Fun make over site from ivillage. It's how I make my profile pics...my face but not my hair or makeup (or glasses, depending on how crazy I get with it).
lalabanana you sound exactly like me!! i dunno where abouts you're from, but have you ever shopped in Beyond Retro? or Pop Boutique? also love Urban Outfitters but i can never afford anything tasty enough.. i generally just go in there and dream about owning things. hahah :)
thank you for all the advice about which hair colour. i spoke to my mum who said it'd be pretty hard for me to get the lighter tones from Picture 1 without losing a lot of the elasticity of my hair (so basically it wouldn't go so curly.) i don't really want to harm my ringlets (i did when it was blond before and its taken me ages to get them to bounce back) so i think im gonna go closer to picture number two. also thinking a chunkier fringe (on the side though probably) and i might get some hair extensions to play around with .. but only if they dont look like rats tails or something :|
skookum i'm gonna go on that site later!! looks like fun! thanks :D
