I want to share my latest success and hear what is working well for YOU.

Hey guys!

I have totally changed my way of eating these last weeks

I am still a size 8 52 kilo fit and toned personal trainer and the latest way I am eating feels better then anything I have ever tried, so I thought I’d share it with you!

Attaining optimal health is an on going process, and just when I think I have found a really good way to eat that works well for me, I suddenly have a revelation and find a way that makes even more sense to me!

I feel so good that I want to share my success with all of you!

I am eating a cave man type diet. Mostly fish with a little chicken, raw vegetables, raw nuts, and raw fruit. I prefer raw crunchy things, and hate cooked or steamed vegetables!

BREAKFAST

I do not eat grains, I roast either an orange or purple sweet potato, cut it into sandwich sized/ shaped pieces, and spread it with avocado like you do normal bread. It is much tastier and more colorful then your usual toast!

I either have SWEET POTATO TOAST WITH AVOCADO OR I have a bowel of roasted orange sweet potato roasted until it is soft on the inside and crispy on the skin, spiced with a little nut meg, cinnamon, and cumin and then drizzled with cold pressed flaxseed oil. HEAVEN.

My lunch and dinner are a large portion of chicken or fish with a large raw green salad.

I have salmon for lunch at least every second day because it is just so tasty.

I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack during the day when I feel like it.

I try not to go more then 4 hours with out eating, but do not like eating any more frequently then 4 hours - some people function best on more frequent meals but I tried that way for ages and hated it because I never felt truly hungry and I did not enjoy eating because I was not hungry for my meals, and I enjoy eating so much more when I leave enough time for me to actually feel hungry for my meal!

So, sweet potato toasts or plain orange sweet potato for breakfast, protein and salads for lunch and dinner, and either fruit or small hand full of nuts for the snack when I feel like it.

I hope it was interesting to read about what has been working so well for me!

I also have increased my protein a fair bit and feel much better eating more protein, a little more fat, and less carbohydrates.

PLEASE SHARE WHAT HAS BEEN WORKING FOR YOU LATELY, I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN WORKING FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE!

I would LOVE to hear your feed back

Wow that sounds super healthy!!! Good for you. I do have a question though. The cold pressed flax seed oil..........wouldn't that taste like putting olive oil on the sweet potato? Just curious as I have never tried it. Seems it would be too much of an oily feeling on my mouth. Does flaxseed oil have a distinct flavor?

I can't say I have done anything that is working for me lately. I thought it was but now i'm re evaluating what i'm eating and doing.

Thanks for the post

Oh, and to add variety some times I have fruit for breakfast and bake some home made hot chips for lunch out of normal white potato. They taste much better when you make them yourself!

Orange sweet potato make nice chips too, perfect with sweet paprika and basil and good quality olive oil!

I also have organic baked beans maybe once a week for breakfast for variety! The only ingredients in the baked beans are; beans, tomato, water, and salt. Natural and high in flavor and a GREAT protein/ carbohydrate pre work out snack!

Cold pressed flaxseed oil is raw and not heated and it is a VERY good source of fats - omega 3’s. I do not use much, just a tbsp maximum, I love the taste but a lot of people would need to get used to it but it is well worth even adding a LITTLE bit for the health benefits!

Flaxseed oil taste very different to olive oil and is totally different to putting olive oil on potato or sweet potato

When I bake my home made hot potato chips, I use olive oil, I only add the flaxseed oil to the bowl of orange spiced sweet potato after I dry roast them ( with out any oil) .

ALSO - I am a size 6 - 8 AUSTRALIAN size.

Thanks i'm going to have to try that flax seed oil.

Hello,

Thought I'd say 'hi' being a fellow Aussie!

Do you ever crave sweets? I'm a size 8-10  and I'm fairly fit but since having children (2) I'm wobbly and put on fat quite easily. I'm seeing a Personal Trainer tomorrow and not once has she asked me about my nutrition. So frustrating!

I do a mix of weight training 3 times per week followed by 20 mins HIIT on treadmill and then on other days I either walk/pilates/yoga or dance dvd.

I would LOVE to get back to 54kg although I feel it's just a dream. I'm 58kg now, but do have some nice muscle which must be why I why more than I'd like.

Where about are you?

OP-Al Sears, right?

Whole grains are an important part of a balanced diet so it's best not to skip them entirely.

The most important lesson I've learned is to eat protein + carbs at every meal/snack. Just an apple usually doesn't cut it for me but if I combine it with a bit of cheese or nuts, I'm much more satisfied.

Ground, organic flax seed is wonderful in oatmeal :) Does wonders for your hair and nails too. Good stuff!!

I have an amazing success story to share.  My goal was to lose 107 lbs by February 20th 2009.  I started on December 17th 2007.  This past Friday I weighed in at 269.5 which put me down 107.5 lbs.  But on Monday I weighed my self and I was at 274?!?! I was devastated because my specific goal was to be at 270 by tomorrow.  sooo I spent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday eating super low fat, high fiber and about 1700 calories per day.  I also eat lots of Blueberries, Oranges, bananas, apples, and drank cranberry juice to try and help me not retain water.  I also drank 150 ounces of water a day ( I usually drink 120) to flush the salt out.  I also worked out on Tuesday and did push ups on Monday and Wednesday.

So today i got up super early and i was going to pull some old high school wrestling moves and sweat out some of the extra water weight.  i weighed my self before working out and I was at 268!!!  I effing made it.  i really did it.  I can't believe that it really happened.

So the moral to the story is that f you are retaining water Cranberry juice, Blueberrys and extra water consuption really do help you with water retention.

That and I eat Black beans almost every day.  I also eat bran flakes every day for b-fast and half the time eat egg whites with lean ham steak as well.

Now I have to get to 220 by February 1st 2010 and my reward will be to go to the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver with all the money I have saved eating right.!!

Where can I find some of that Flax seed oil?? I would love to try it, I love that sweet potato breakfast it sound delicious!!!

that's fabulous it works for you!  for me, personally, a well balanced diet that include grains, whole grains, works best for me, especially maintaining.

One thing that has been great for me lately is I make a big batch of beet soup or borsht (recipes online) full of all sorts of veggies a yam and sometimes some chicken or stewing beef and tons of fresh dill yum! I find it to be very tasty, filling and very low cal. It is also quite healthy, not as good a raw veggies but better than being hungry and bingeing on the high cal stuff.I have this a few times a day with a protein source like, tilapia, sardines, eggs,  almonds, and chicken, also like a fresh raw salad with olive oil vinegrette dressing. I like to snack on fruit, I love apple slices with cinnamon sprinkled on them.  I found it rather easy to lose a pound this week, I also did some cardio and weight lifting type stuff, one of my favourite excercises is doing lunges around a track with weights in hand, tough but feels good! Good luck to everyone!

Sweet potato + avocado = HEAVEN

By "roast," do you mean you stick it in the oven until it's cooked, or do you have a more advanced roasting technique?

I've been eating a LOT of fruits.  I can't stay away from them!  I've been trying to eat more vegetables, and my favorite way to have them is veeery slightly boiled--5 seconds for spinach, a minute for broccoli--and then salt and pepper.  I also have grown to love plain chicken breast and plain tuna.  I keep my tuna intake fairly low, though, because mercury is not my friend.

I'm glad you've found something that works for you!

I agree that whole grains can be a good addition to a balanced diet and I do not believe in excluding ANY food OR food group unless you have a genuine reason.

I have spent years experimenting with what diet works best for me, and I have come to my current decision based on what I have found to work best for my body. We are all different, and we should all respect each others decisions; avoiding grains and eating potato’s, sweet potato’s, ( both purple AND orange), fruit, nuts, and raw vegetables for my carbohydrates is what works best for me, so that is what I am doing.

I do not advocate avoiding whole grains or dairy, I just do not eat these things because my years of experimenting has lead me away from these things, because my body functions better without them.

Most people do not have the time to experiment as extensively as I have, it is my life style, my job, and part of who I am; I am trying to make a career out of guiding other people in the right directions for THEIR bodies by experimenting with things, and I am never going to be dogmatic to any client I get.

It would be wiser for the average person who has a life, obligations, and not a lot of time to invest exploring what foods work best for their bodies to just stick to the universal guidelines and then take it from there by making small adjustments.

So, yes I do not eat grains or dairy and I do not need to justify it or explain myself to other people, I am just doing what works the best for me; I do not recommend other people do it because every ones body is different and what has worked the best for me so far will not be the best for another person who has a completely different body to me.

Nealy123 - Another Australian! 58 kilo’s is a very slim and weight for most people, and a mixture of strength training 2 - 3 times a week is the ideal amount for most women to attain their ideal figure with, and the rest of what you are doing sounds great, if you keep it up as well as eating clean, un processed foods then you will likely achieve your potential with your body, unless there are any medical reasons that prevent it!

Coatesuwyo - well done! You have maintained a life style for long enough to lose a HUGE amount of weight, you must feeling AMAZING, I can feel your excitement!

I did not have much weight to lose as such but I am very exited about my new body too, I t feels great when you find a plan that works for you and that you love enough to maintain for the rest of your life!

Littlegreycloud - I simply LOVE fruits; apricots, strawberries, and raspberries are my favorites and I love fresh dates too. Frozen banana’s frozen and then eaten like an ice block are also a favorite tasting fruit of mine.

I also LOVE salmon; I like it best when I put a few spices on it ) ground ginger, garlic flakes, lime and lemon juice) and then grill it until the skin is crispy. I eat it with a HUGE salad made from raw cucumber and tomato.

Chicken breasts taste the best when I put several spices on it ( ground chili, sweet paprika, ginger, basil, garlic flakes, onion flakes and all spices that taste good, though not more then 4 or so at once!) AND THEN grill it until the skin is crispy

TIP; fish and chicken taste MUCH BETTER when you put spices on it and then grill it until the skin is crispy. The crispy skin taste MUCH BETTER then having it softer.

And I just cut the sweet potato up and then roast them. Nothing fancy, you just need an oven!

Orange sweet potato tastes GREAT if you cut it into golf ball sized pieces of any shape you like and then sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg and maybe some ginger if you like ginger, and then bake it until the skin is crispy; REMEMBER to turn the potato’s around about half way through baking so both sides of the potato are exposed to the light in the oven and go crispy and lightly browned.

YUM. I love how I eat, it is all so tasty!
