Weight Loss

I have a goal of 2 lbs a week. I am in a wedding in 6 weeks and still weigh 183 lbs. This week after 6 days of exercise including weights I was down a pound only. I was discouraged about that as well as having major chocolate cravings. As a result I fell of the wagon last night and ate 4 chocolate maccaroons. Needless to say I went over my calorie limit. I feel like I am getting scale obsessed and maybe I should just measure instead of weigh for awhile.
Anyone else going through a similar situation? I need encouragement.

I understand the deadline issue. I have a friends wedding in a month and I really want to get under the 150 mark by then. (i'm 158 now).
The important thing is that you are doing better than you ever have before. You ate 4 chocolate maccaroons, but today is a new day.
In the grand scheme of things those chocolate maccaroons are small potatoes, but don't make a habit of it. If you deny yourself something, you are likely to binge and eat more of it, than if you allow yourself one maccaroon. It's ok to eat a maccaroon, but try not to do it all the time.
You will lose the weight you want to lose, and 2lbs a week is the max you should lose a week while still being healthy. 1lb is still 1lb, which is fantastic.
What did you start out at?

I'll do that... Lately I haven't been agreeing with my scale either. I usually weigh in once a day and log only my Tuesday and Friday weight. But since I've been getting annoyed I am only weighing on Tuesday and Friday... It makes it a little less stressful :)
I've gone thru that same thing. I avoid the scale now and only weight myself every 2 weeks. I measure myself weekly. Try to relax a little. Somestimes that stress of trying to loss weigh can make it harder. Good Luck and keep up the good work!!
For now, cardio, cardio, cardio. Adding weights, adds muscles, but shrinks inches. But you should focus on cardio.
Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone. I just needed to vent my feelings and I definitely feel better now. I don't think I will weigh for a while and just keep on the exercise and good eating. I also just recently ordered some body fat calipers to measure my body fat % that I think will be more accurate than anything else.
Alizus, I started out at 199 last November so I have come down in weight since then and my husband says the change in my body has been dramatic. I have lost 10 inches off of my waist since then. I guess I just had a weak moment.
Thanks all,
Sherri

I threw my scale in the trash!!! I was so obsesed with it....it was like a drug! At 1st I had someone hide it, THEN I accidently found it....and got obsesed all over again! SO that's when I threw it away! I weigh in at the gym once a week! Sometimes once every two weeks! So much better!
vic99 -- I have been feeling the scale's tug recently, although I am keeping myself off of it to only weight weekly.
What is it that makes the scale so tempting?

At this point, I need to weigh myself daily...it reminds me that I'm going to be relatively good each day.
Follow the green trend line instead of looking at the actual weight. As long as your weight is below the trend line, even if it fluctuates, you're still on track.

I'm not sure that the green line is that great of a trend line. It's just a moving average, as opposed to some sort of regression. In other words, it's just based on the weights that you enter. I'm not sure how that makes it a decent means of showing you where your weights are supposed to be (i.e. you're only on track if you stay under it). I think it's just too positively correlated with your weight to make it very useful (i.e. if your weights are going down overall, it's going to be going down (or up and up, or same and same), so what additional information does it offer?.
i used to weigh for too much and was becoming obsessed with it.
i now only weigh every five days or more or when i feel i have done okay.
if i havent - i will avoid them just in case the scales is going in the wrong direction - and i start to lose heart and therefore eat.
today i have had a bmr day - enjoyed what i had but will be good for a while now - so i dont go back to the old habits

I agree....hard-core cardio. I see a visible difference in just a week.
