I love my Post: Great grains, raisains and dates cereal

I ALWAYS get that

But it has far too many calories

Today I got the Kellogs Sultana Bran Crunch. I havent tried it yet. Has anyone else tried it? Is it good? i was thinking of returning it for my regular Post cereal.

PS: I am not a big fan of Special k.

My new favorite cereal is Kashi Heart to Heart Oat Flakes and Wild Blueberry Clusters - it is DELICIOUS and stays crunchy. Not completely low-cal at 200 calories a serving, but it has 4g fiber and high in vitamins (100% of Vitamins E, B6, Folic Acid and B12).

Weetabix biscuits, softened in hot water.  Yum, they absorb the water, and turn into a nice soft warm mush.  I top it off with a Yoplait light.  Delicious!

I loved the Curves cereal, but I have had a hard time finding it lately.  It was really low cal but was super high in protein for a cereal and it tasted great!

Hands down, the best cereal I've found is FiberOne Honey Clusters.  It is sweet and delicious - one cup has only 160 calories, 1.5 g fat, but it packs in 13 g of fiber and 5 g protein.

As the poster above mentioned, I have heard that some people have had an issue adjusting to more fiber than they're used to - but the bottom line is that you NEED that fiber - so just be sure to drink MORE water than you normally do the first few days (even if you already think you drink a lot).  Your body will adjust after just a few days and you'll be on your way.  A cup of cereal with a cup of strawberries and a full cup of skim milk is only 286 calories.

I alternate daily with Quaker Instant Oatmeal - High Fiber (also with a cup of strawberries) - that's only 187 calories.  Add half a cup of FiberOne Original (trust me, these twigs taste WAY better than they look!) to the oatmeal just before you eat it, and you've got 247 calories, 6.5 g protein, and 25 g of fiber (just add an extra three ounces or so of water when you're making it).  You can also make it with milk if you need the extra calcium.

Just had my cholesterol checked, and it's lower than it's ever been.  I KNOW eating these breakfasts has made that possible.  You will be hooked.

Yes, Oatmeal is always a healthy substitue, especially if you add blueberies (makes it a superfood).  However, when you need crunchy, I go for the Kashi Go Lean Crunch - heartier than the regular Go Lean, and lots of fiber.  Post cereals have WAY too much sugar for me!

I look for breakfast cereals with no more than 12g sugar and at least 5g fiber per serving.  That narrows it quite a bit and what is left is generally fairly low in calories.  E.g., Kashi Cinnamon Harvest and Flax Plus Multibran.  No HFCS.  Vegan.  Add fresh friut as desired.

I mix cereals to lower the calorie count and get the yummies in Post Cranberry Almond Crunch. I usually use Kashi Go Lean to mix in and it lowers the calories per cup by about one-third.

I too am addicted to Post Great Grains with Raisins, Dates and Pecans.  LOVE IT!!  I have been eating this cereal off and on for at least eight years.  I have tried switching to others - some of those mentioned by others - but nothing has ever compared to my precious Great Grains and I keep coming back.

I limit how much of it I eat, one serving exactly (3/4 c) and add the 220 calories to my day.  I consider it a treat AND a healthy food option.  If I make poor choices at lunch and only have a few calories left for the day, I can eat one serving of this cereal for dinner, feel full, and actually be happy with my dinner choice because I LOVE this cereal.  Keep eating!!  :)

Since you don't like Special K (although I recommend the vanilla almond to everyone else), try Honey Kix. You get a LOT per serving and it's delicious. Even if you don't like regular Kix, give it a try. I am not a fan of regular Kix and I am addicted to this stuff.

I alternate between Cheerios and Oatmeal but I've been using the Quakers Weight Control oatmeal and it has extra fiber and protein.  Easy to make at work when I get there.  My favorite is Maple Brown Sugar but they have cinnamon and banana bread as well.

I love the banana bread flavor! It is sweet, so I kinda feel like I am getting a treat for breakfast.

Honey Nut Rice Chex is where it's at.  I don't recall the nutrition information off the top of my head but most time I end up bagging it up and using it as a mid afternoon snack.  Good with milk too, I usually use 1%.  Or my fallback, Rice Krispies with sliced banana!

I love Smart Start Original Antioxidant with 1 cup fresh strawberries and 1/2 cup skim milk.  Mmmmmm, yummy.  Also, Special K Blueberry (new) and Special K Vanilly Almond are scrumptious.  These can also be used to satisfy that late night sugar craving without too much damage.Smile

All-Bran Strawberry Medley! 180 cals for 1 and 1/4 a cup! 10 grams of fibre... but 10 grams of sugar too.

I go through a box a week...heh.

Trader Joe's High Fiber Cereal. Check out the nutrients in the Food Browser (but be aware that the serving size on the actual label is 2/3 cup; the CC label mistates this as 2 cup).

If you're looking for a low calorie cereal with lots of fiber and a decent amount of protein, go with Kashi Go Lean - just the regular, not the crunch.  Kashi Go Lean Crunch is good, but it has more calories than the regular Kashi Go Lean.

It eat Kashi Go Lean almost every morning with Silk Unsweetened Soy Milk, which adds additional protein, and cinnamon to help regulate blood sugar.

Cheers!

I liek frosted miniwheats. Hmmmmm. They are so good, they are a bit high in calories, but man are they good!

I always look for LOW SUGAR! I like South Beach Meal Bars. They are low sugar and high protein. The other SB bars are too high in sugar...so are Special K bars :(

nature's path 'optimum slim'. high fiber, high protein, low calories, low fat. totally yummy, good for you, and will keep you full - after all, you've never heard someone say "ughhh these whole grains are gonna go straight to my ass," have you? i can usually get it at a supermarket but you might have to hit up a health food store, where you'll find aisles after aisles of great cereals.

also if you're trying to cut back on calories/fat with your cereal, go with soy milk. it may taste weird the first time or two but eventually you'll go head over heels for that stuff.
