wanting to eattt!!!
the past few days i've been hungrier and wanting to eat more especially right now! i just barely ate lunch and i'm still SUPER HUNGRY! is this because of my period? it came yesterday morning. are you supposed to eat more calories during your period because of what you're losing?
i wanted to know too so i looked it up & all signs point to "no". bummer. also i found 2 older posts on this site asking the exact same question. you might want to check those out. 1 was in the weight loss forum titled "Can you eat more whilst on your period?" & the other is in the Health & Support forum titled "Calories during periods?". They are from July '07 & January '08 respectively. hope that helps a little. i think you should ask Mary

For goodness' sake, use some commonsense! If you're 'SUPER HUNGRY'... then eat something rather than ignoring it and hoping it goes away. From your profile you're 17 and you're pretty short which means your body is likely to be still growing and developing. You need good nourishment, not calorie-restriction.
If you want to eeeeat, then eeeeeat! Simple!
If you're hungry it means your metabolism is speeding up getting into gear and looking for fuel to keep it burning away happily! Go grab a slice of Rasin toast with peanut butter! mmmm, I may go do the same.
the thing is i wasn't restricting my calories. i had just eaten half a bagel with cheese melted on it carrots and grapes, so i did have some food in me.
You may not think you are actively restricting calories but half a bagel is a very small meal. If you were still super-hungry it means it probably wasn't enough food. Try something with a decent amount of protein and fat in it since both of those things are quite satisfying.... some cooked meat, a boiled egg, some nuts... or you could follow up with a banana, a yoghurt. That's what most people do without really thinking too much about it.

I have heard that you do have a slight metabolic increase during your period (so you could eat about another hundred calories or so per day).
This would mean that you could be a little more hungry before or during your period.
However, like gi-jane says, half a bagel isn't a big enough lunch. So the reason for your hunger is more likely to be undereating, not additional hunger because of your period.

Some people find they feel a little hungrier than normal when they have a period but it's by no means a universal experience. Make sure you're getting the full 2000 give-or-take cals a day that a grown woman needs to stay healthy and go for a good balance of different foods so that what you eat is satisfying. A whole bagel next time, perhaps?
ok. im pretty sure i got my calories yesterday ha. after i got back from work i ate a lot of cereal. yeah not very healthy but i realllly wanted it ha.
I think just about every woman I know gets hungrier either before/during their period. I've read that you do burn a few extra hundred/day before your period, but that could just as likely be untrue haha. anyway, i have found that bagels don't really fill me up. Most days, I eat oatmeal with some fruit sliced in for breakfast which satisfies me much more and for a longer amount of time. Its actually less calories than the bagel but more filling. If I ate the same amount of oatmeal as my bagel and cc (calorie-wise) i'd be significantly fuller-that would be like 2 packets and a piece of fruit.
I was really hungry last night and started picking, then I made myself some broccoli with margarine and bread crumbs (I know the latter aren't super healthy, but it is so good) and by the end of my big bowl, I was stuffed which saved me from eating alot more. So when you are feeling extra-hungry, I say try to eat some more filling foods.
and I still eat bagels a couple times a week b/c I love them, but I know I'll probably need something before or after that fills me up a little more.
oh gosh i love oatmeal (: i eat it every morning for breakfast!
