Who wants to break into running with me?
I started this morning OW!!! I used to run 12 years ago when I was in school and track. I have lost the ability to run farther than 1/4 mile without panting and wishing for death LOL. I would like to be able to run at least a mile by the end of the year!!
I could use some motivation and some friends that would like to start this painful journey with me :)
I'm in! I just started last week. I did it 3 times in a week's period, and I'm aiming for that again this week.

I'm in to join you. I starting running last year, did it for awhile, then fell off the diet/exercise wagon. I'm ready to get back on the wagon. I want to run 5 times a week also.
I've been thinking of getting into running, but am curious, how does running benefit over other types of exercise? Is it just that people really enjoy it that makes it so popular? Is it better for burning fat/calories than say, biking or walking?

I just started tonight!! I ran a half marathon back in 2002 and then completely fell off the bandwagon - guess I felt once my goal had been accomplished that was it!!
So tonight I decided to go for a run - went 3.2 km in 35 mins and had to stop 2 times for about 3-4 mins walking. Not bad for a first time. You all have lofty goals mine are only 2-3 times per week. As soon as I say more I fail - so becareful!! It is better to start with a goal of twice a week and overachieve then to fail and give yourself an excuse to quit right off the bat.
I have never loved running but it does burn more calories than walking in a much faster time frame. I am lacking in making time for exercise - helpful hints welcome.

I really want to start running again. The last time I really ran was high school when I was in cross country. My goal is to run in a marathon, but I really don't know how I'm going to start running again. I'm really really out of shape and right now it's too hot to run outside (Texas) so running on a treadmill is really my only option....
I completely share sentiment with ex-runners, I can barely run down the block without having to gasp for air. It's so embarrasing! Anyway, good luck to everyone starting!!
Wow great to hear I will not be alone :). I woke up this morning and OUCH i hurt all over!! I never remember hurting that bad after running in High School! So I have reavaluated and decided to start at three days a week! Those of you on here that are doing that are smart!
I want to be able to walk by the end of the week. lelee1568 dont feel bad, I litterally ran 1/4 mile in two different incriments and i was huffing like I just ran the las vegas marathon. I am sure we will get there in time :). Good luck today everyone, can't wait to hear how all of you are doing!
I'm in too! I too was quite the runner... but AGES ago. I need, need, need to get back into it though. I think I'm going to try to FORCE myself to go this evening, and then 3x per week. What I need most of all is a kick in the butt from someone else reminding me not to get lazy... hope we can all motivate one another!

I went on my run today and actually made it almost a mile woo hoo!! I have found that my ipod helped me keep going, I have never been one who liked the sound of my feet hitting the pavement. So this absolutely helps me
Im so In I kinda already started, I did 30 min of running 3 days ago, 20 min 2 days ago, 1 hour two hours ago.
I also have a running buddy (My BFFL / Neighbour Mariam) she does alot less then me but having her around keeps me going she walks beside me and when I get to far I either run back to her or she catches up. =D
