Who Wants to be Skinny, Anyway?

Quote  |  Reply

Is there any teen girl on this board that would rather have some muscle than be a delicate waif?

Just curious, since it seems to be a trend for our age group.

heya!  I'm 20, and I have watched my mother (who is superthin) go through a lot of crap because she doesn't weigh enough.  She is easily exhausted, she's not very strong, and she doesnt' have the endurance to live life to the fullest.  i am not implying that all very thin people are like that, but I would rather be healthy at 165 lbs, which is good for being my height 5 8.  I would never want to drop below 160.  I think i look stick-like, and my boyfriend likes him some curves :p

Personally, I'm very petite and I like the appearance of being delicate, lean, and elegant. I don't want to be muscular really...

Stick thin.

I'd like to resemble a twig actually.

I think there's something in both of these looks to be appreciated. I envy the muscles of some girls, especially athletes, but honestly I'd take being waifish over toned. Not disgustingly skinny, but just small all around. Probably because I haven't grown taller for like two years and I'm barely above 5 feet, so I just get this feeling that having a lot of muscle would make me look bulky. It's terribly stereotypical of me as a teenage girl, but I admire that certain type of ethereal beauty and thinness that some women possess (as long as it isn't skeletal).

Edit: I think the words "delicate", "graceful", and "elegant" pertain to my desired body more than "twig-like" and "bony".

Yeah i'd way rather have muscle tone than just be skinny.  Unfortunately for me though, lots of weight goes to my stomach(like a lotta ppl!) so when my stomach is nice and toned and flat, the rest of me looks really skinny coz you can't spot reduce

Wow I wish I was skinny. But not skinny as in stick thin, just having my tummy flat wtih my size B boobs and my Greek butt gone down to like, half of what it is right now. So I need to lose like..60 pounds to get to that? Here I go :).

I would like to be skinny but not stick thin.

I have over come anorexia and feel good, and it was very offensive when you said that some one with my BMI looks fat compared to models

I LOVE the tall thin ethereal look and not that far off it myself only I am not tall and have breasts and a butt, and I have to fight the urge to want to look frail and thin and your comment can really hurt people like us, and maybe even cause us to take a step backwards from recovering and trigger our eating disorder again!

I just wanted you to think about what you said and learn that it can hurt people if you come across wrongly.

SORRY heartwillforever, I meant to reply to another girl who made another post but accidently pressed reply to your post!

I was talking to Kirby, the girl who posted!

I AM kirby. The girl who posted was fashionista01

Well for those of you that think it be wonderful to look grossly skinny, please seek help NOW! imagine this, you cant walk to a bus stop without being totally exhausted, standing up makes you dizy, your always cold even when its warm, your in the process of going bald, your heart forms malfunctions, and you permanently slow your metabolism (if you havent gotten enought nutrition for a long time).

AFTER YOU GO through all that, have you forgot that you will die.  Well unless you get a lot of help and get that weight up.

IS BEING DISGUSTINGLY SKINNY BETTER THEN DYING?

i would say heck no and i have been grossly skinny, no fun.

Visually, being frail, petite, very thin, tall, skinny, can look physically attractive and this image dominates the media; some of these people are naturally slim AND have access to the personal trainers/ chefs etc to make them in their best shape, and others are average builds who are slim because they have access to all the tools to perfect what they have; an average women can be slim and look great if they had as much help as people in the media do.

Being skinny looks good on people who can be healthy at that weight; a larger person who has great skin, thick beautiful hair, perfect teeth, and other attributes can still be as physically attractive, it is a matter of opinion.

Some people like skinny, some people like large, and I am so glad to hear there are people who just want to possess” health” rather then an ideal

A lot of people will always visually admire delicate ethereal women, we cannot change peoples opinions but we can change our bodies for the better , and become stronger by resisting the popular “ skinny” image that are venerated by many teens

Very thin women can still have bad hair and teeth so it is not all about being skinny, but when a lot of women are asked what they would change about their bodies, perfect skin and hair and a thin or skinny are common answers.

My BMI is 19, 112 - 113 lbs at 5 feet 4, I am thin but not skinny.

I used to weigh 110 lbs or even a little bit less but I chose to gain weight once I became a personal trainer because I looked the part more

So, I ADMIRE an attractive skinny person if I see one, but I also admire some one with great teeth and perfect skin just as much! “skinny” is just one trait that seams to stand out the most!

Ultimately, I want to have nice skin, hair, and 2 legs that work more then I want to be “ skinny”

I think the super thin look is over rated, and short sighted, because those super thin, no muscle people, are the ones that get older and have 0 muscle mass, barely able to walk or do anything, hunched over. I did human anatomy, and one of our cadavers was a super thin woman, she was TOTALLY emaciated, nothing there. So with life spans increasing, think ahhead, and do some weight training for goodness sake...

I don't want to be super thin or very muscular, just slim, healthy and toned.

I don't have the type of frame that would allow me to work the waifish look anyway cos I'm quite curvy (wideish hips, narrow waist etc.)

Personally, I'd like to be thin with hints of muscular definition. I want thin limbs that when you move them you can see the muscles in action. :)
