I've researched it and decided that it makes a lot of sense for healthy eating plus losing weight. I want to lose 15 lbs and my current diet and exercise has not significantly changed my weight in the last 2 months.  I think I've been eating too many carbs and not enough protein.

Anyone want to try it the same time w/ me so we can discuss it together? I'm planning to start Phase 1 as of today....

Anyone currently on SB diet want to share some tips?

I started South Beach  1 1/2 weeks ago. I am 180 and need to be 130-140. I anm 31 with 4 kids and my dad to look after.

It's hard because I work 9-5....so having to either remember to bring lunch AND snacks AND water.....or keep leaving the office to get them and spending lots of money.

So you're at the end of Phase 1 right now?  has there been any changes in your weight yet?
I have been seriously considering going back. I did it once before but it was very hard for me ... The thing is i have been counting calories and working or religiously for like 3 weeks and all that has happened is i gained a pound... so low carb may be my only option at this point.

I was looking into atkins too i have never tried that before.
I've encountered the same thing, which is why I'm resorting to this.  For almost 2 months I counted my calories every day and ate healthy, practically vegetarian. Plus I've been exercising regularly 6 days/wk.  But like you, my weight is fluctuating near the weight I was at the start. One day I'm 2 lbs lighter, the next day I'm 1 lb over my start weight.  I know some of it is muscle but come on!!!

My conclusion is that the calorie counting isn't working because i'm eating too many carbs.

ive been on it for about 4 weeks now, on phase one. your not supposed to go longer then 2 weeks but the NO carb thing is the ONLY diet that has ever worked for me.

eat lots of fiber, and you will be so sick of eggs by the end you could puke.

but its a good diet. i love it

But in Phase 1, doesn't a lot of sources of fiber count as carbs? Where can i get fiber from that's not grains?  I've heard you get sick of eating eggs, haha.

I've lost 1 lb this week. I called my Dr because I want my blood levels checked.

But anyway, I eat eggs for breakfast _ I LOVE THEM. I eat them scrammbled, poached, quiched, fried  yummy and a glass of V8 juice

snacks are easy for me - nuts in the morning and cheese in the afternoon with a glass of V8

lunch is leftovers of dinner or a salad from wendy's

dinners are wonderful - chicken on the grill, london broil, fish with lemon, you name it - you can eat it     I love ALL veggies so all I have to do is avoid the ones on the do not eat list

snack is jello and cream

If you need any suggestions please let me know

Beans are how you get your fiber in phase 1!

The only thing is South Beach is a fad diet and yes you do lose weight on it don't get me wrong my brother in law lost about 30 pounds with it but went back to eating same old way he was before and he gained it back plus more.  You would just have to be committed to it for life (lifestyle change).  Good luck!!

isn't calorie counting also a lifestyle change?  who expects to be able to be able to go back to the way they were when they were overweight and not gain anything back?
yeah that's a good point danielle....I feel like i need to LEARN how to eat right. It's *supposed* to be a lifestyle change. If we all lose weight and go back to eating the way we used to, of course it will come back again!!  It's been a big trial and error for me, but I'm trying to figure out what my body responds to.

I think the SB diet begins as a diet because you are depriving yourself of carbs.  And your body does need *some* carbs for energy.  But I like the idea of adding them back on gradually to test how it affects you. It's like cleansing your body and building back gradually.  Being healthy ultimately is about eating everything in the right balance, not about permanently depriving yourself.

Hi:

I using both the South Beach Diet and the Abs Diet by David Zinczenko.  I lost weight with the South beach diet (10 pounds) but I put it back.  I eating the foods I like from the South Beach Diet combining with 8 small meals from the the Abs Diet and it seems to working for me.  I have lost 4 pounds in 3 days.

I am also walking 60 minutes per day and lifting weights once per week.  Not all calories are the same, that's why I like Counting calories because it keeps me on track on eating healthy foods.

I have also taken out all the drinks except from green tea and water.  I Smilestop eating at 7 p.m.

Enrique

My starting weight was 258 and I want to get back to 180.

I can atest to the fact that once you cleanse yourself of the need for white bread, white rice, sugar, etc... South Beach is a breeze. Before my mom became ill I was very diligent about what I ate and SB "lets" you have beans, brown rice, etc... so in the long run you are not deprived of comfort foods.

I stayed on the Phase 1 last time for several months to teach myself I could live without bread and sugar and so forth. My Dr monitored my stats and once I felt and he agreed, I could go on to phase 2 I did.

I have taught my kids some of what SB teaches and they will now eat brown rice and wheat bread without any arguments. They still can have their treats each nite of a "regular" cookie but most of the time they will opt for an apple or a berrie smoothie.

I completelly agree with Danielle.  I tried for three years to lose the weight without changing my diet.  I could lose 5 pounds per day when I was 25 years old but now it is more like 1 pound per week.

I have lost 5 pounds in five days by eating 8 small meals, drinking water, walking 30- 60 minutes per day and counting calories.  I love this website because it tells me which foods are good plus the calories intake.

According to my profile, I am suppossed to be consuming 2300 calories per day to lose weight.  Out of the five days, only one day i have gone over.  My goal is to consumed 2,000 or less calories per day.  Eating from the A foods.

I am 45 years old and I weighed 258 pounds 5 days ago.  I am now at 253.
