Warm Post Workout Shakes

Quote  |  Reply

Anyone have a recipe for a good post workout shake that is warm instead of cold?  I hate winter - I'm a warm weather person and I am FREEZING after my shakes.  It's kind of killing my endorphin rush.  I like putting a scoop of whey in my coffee, but I am currently cutting back on caffeine.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

How about using decaff coffee?

I usually make my shakes with Almond Breeze - I would heat it up in the microwave before mixing.

Sometimes, I heat up 1 cup of milk in the microwave then mix in a scoop of chocolate protein powder.  It tastes quite a bit like hot chocolate.

Great ideas, I am not much on cold shakes either.  I have done the protein with coffee and it was not that great, I will try the warm milk (vanilla flavored whey) and sprinkle some cinnamon.

susiecue, I haven't heard much good about the taste of protein powder. What brand is your chocolate? Warm chocolate milk is worth exercising for!! :)

I dont' know if this is 100% true but I used to be part of a group that basically lived on protein shakes and had done so much research on protein (different brands, types etc) and they said that if the water/whatever you used was too hot, it would denature the protein in the protein shake.  So I would advise using warm water, not hot, or warm coffee, so as not to affect the quality of the protein.

As far as kinds I like, my two fav chocolates are Champion Pure Whey Stack, and Designer Whey.  Another one that is good that I used to put in oatmeal is IDS Low Carb Multi Pro Whey Vanilla Cinnamon.  It tasted like the milk from Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

There is a website called vitalady.com.  She is a post-op gastric bypass surgery patient who now sells protein powders that she has done extensive research on.  She also sells samples of each powder.  Her stuff is great, although I personally used to buy her samples and then find the lowest prices elsewhere.  But for samples, it's a great place to visit!
