Now, it is getting warmer, what do you eat instead of oats?
what do you guys eat for breakfast instead of hot oatmeal?? I feel like I don't want to eat it anymore. any ideas for cold nice refreshing breakfast???
50g fruit & fibre cereal, drizzled with low-fat natural yoghurt and agave nectar, with a bowl of mixed frozen fruits.
I have a really bad sweet tooth D:
I love fruit salad for breakfast as fruits become cheaper and much more appealing in size, shape and taste. It's very refreshing on a hot morning! Have some fruit salad (make enough for 2 or 3 and "fridge it"), as well as a slice of toast with an egg or yogurt. I agree, oats are belly- fillin'/ soul warmin' winter food!
if you really like your oatmeal, you could cook oatmeal and then leave it in the fridge for breakfast.
or, dont cook it, but leave a cup of oatmeal with water, milk or yogurt in the fridge overnight. by morning the oats will have expanded! then u can just add in fresh fruit, yum
Muesli..... a kind of cold 'oats-plus'
I've been having 2 light rye wasa crackers with fat free cream cheese and no sugar added strawberry jam on top! SOOO GOOOD
Just wondering what muesli is and where do you get it/how do you make it? everyone keeps mentioning it and I have no idea what it is...
You can buy muesli at any supermarket. It's like granola but without all of the oil, fat, etc basically...
I am looking for a healthy recipe for muesli. maybe I can make it at home. anyone has ideas?
keep posting guys. I need more ideas for a healthy cold breakfast. I am also looking for creative ideas to eat steel cut oats cold.
Have you tried Weetabix? You can mash up 2 biscuits (120 calories) in cold milk and it's similar to oatmeal nutritionally, and it tastes pretty good! You can toss in some fruit (fresh or frozen) or some nuts if you like, too.
I'm personally a big fan of fiber one cereal, but that doesn't exactly taste like oatmeal (but it is very good for you!)
i'm back into cold cereal (kashi golean crunch) with skim milk. it's amazing how much better i feel when i drink lots of milk, and when it's cold, i tend not to.

This is a pretty basic muesli recipe if you can't find it ready-made. Oats, bran, barley/rye flakes, various chopped nuts and dried fruit. Toast the dry cereals and nuts, mix in the dried fruit... serve with milk.
thanks, Gi-jane. I am wondering about the jumbo porridge oats
?:) never seen them around here in NY :)
anyway, I was thinking of my steel cut oats and how much I love them. How about soaking them in water overnight and use them instead of the rolled oats? I mean toast them in the oven instead of toasting the regular rolled oats.
can I make museli with fresh fruit or it has to be dried? I try to avoid dried fruit because of their concentrated high sugar content.
I eat Kashi GOlean Crunch with some light vanilla soymilk. It's divine and has 8g of fiber and 9g of protein a serving. Keeps me full all morning!
Hot oatmeal lol. I can eat it no matter the temperature :-).
A bowl of mixed fruits topped with lowfat, reduced sugar yogart (I do plain since there is hardly and sugar with just a dollop of fat-free vanilla to give it flavor) and grapenuts mixed in. Fruity, crunchy, creamy... yum!
what about just raw oats? raw oats, some sliced fruit & nuts on top, and use whatever milk floats your boat. it's fast, too! you can do this with any kind of rolled grain- barley is another of our favorites.

the problem with raw oats is I can eat the entire thing in one minute LOl while hot oats mixed with warm milk takes time to eat so I feel full :)) It sounds like I have to try it . Thanks for the ideas.
Any other ideas for quick healthy breakfast bars??
Have you tried the new cereal Just Bunches?
I tend to switch to yogurt with frozen berries mixed in when it gets really hot out.
I eat it with the berries still frozen so they're kinda crunchy and it takes longer to eat.
