So I think we all know that pre packed deli meat is ultra high in sodium so I heard that if you rinse off your deli meat then pat it down with something like a paper towel it takes out a lot of it including the sodium nitrates ect. Is this really true or am I simply just wasting my time washing and drying of my meat before I put it in a sandwich? Thanks (:
Usually, the sodium problem is more IN the meat, meaning that you can't really "wash" it off. The reason they pack deli meat with salt is to preserve it longer and better, but for the healthy eaters out there, it doesn't really do much, does it?
I don't know about where you buy your meat from, but at my local grocery store, they sell deli meat that's made by Healthy Choice that is lower in sodium. You could try that. I also really like Hillshire Farms packaged deli meats...... I don't know how much sodium is in their lowfat turkey, but it tastes alot less salty than regular turkey from the deli. I think Healthy Choice makes packaged deli meat, too.
